@@pdraggyHank Arron never broke Babe Ruth's record for number of home runs in a single season, which was 60. Hank Aaron never hit more than 47 home runs in a single season, in 1971. It was Yankees Roger Marris that broke Ruth's single season home run record with 61 home runs. Mark McGuire broke Marris's record. Hank Aaron broke Ruth's all time carrer home run record. Barry Bonds later broke Aaron's carrer home rum record.
Yes both McGuire and Barry Bonds were on steroids and there was no maybe about it. Both tested positive, but at the time MLB didn't have any clear rules against the use of performance enhancing drugs so their records stand.
Arron was asked to be at the game when Bonds was going to break his record but he refused to attend becuse of Bonds use or performance enhancing drugs. Arron is still considered the true home run king by many fans becuase if it.
Bonds was never voted into MLB Hall of Frame becuase of his use of steroids, even though at the time he was playing there was no set rule against it. He has never received the required number of votes to get in. Now he is no longer eligible to be in the Hall of Frame becuase players only have a certain number of years they are allowed to be eligible and once those number of years pass, they can no longer be eligible.
The same applies to Mark McGuire, he has never been voted in due to his use of performance enhancing drugs

James Earl Jones' character played in the Negro leagues which was the league for black players before MLB was desegregated by Jackie Robinson. It's said that the players in that league were as good if not better than the major leagues. the KC hat the pitcher wears is from the Kansas City Monarchs, the team jackie robinson played for before joining the Dodgers. though I suspect since the kid is a pitcher that the hat is a tribute to pitcher Satchel Paige.

5:05 I was in a similar situation coming from Asia to North America. I studied English but being in an English conversation requires practice, and everyone spoke much faster so I couldn't keep up. Luckily, I met a Latino who was at the same level of knowing the language as I was, so we were able to practice speaking to each other. The funny thing is all the teachers thought that he only spoke Spanish, so he was also hesitant about talking to them. Some of the teachers also somehow didn't understand that reading, writing, & listening to a foreign language are very different from talking in that language. Hence, I got a detention for "pretending" that I couldn't speak English b/c they knew that I was good at the other three aspects.

The Sandlot is better than Stand by Me for "American childhood" movies. Very rarely did anyone get stabbed or find a dead body, very often there was a mysterious man with a scary dog, a hot lifeguard we perved on, and a group of rivals who "play ball like a girl."
And, of course, baseball, which you play for fun, no scores, no fouls, until it's ingrained in your soul, your identity, as the best sport ever invented. Goddamn, I miss playing baseball with the guys.

This is a classic example of the "Coming of Age" genre. Usually it shows us a storied or magical time in the life of one or more American kid, and how it influenced the person they would grow up to become. Stand by me, Christmas Story, and October Sky are also good examples, but I think this one is my favorite just for the portrayal of Americana and what life as a kid was like before video games.

I always thought of this movie as Summertime's answer to "A Christmas Story" (Definitely watch it if you haven't) in that both stories are told from a child's perspective, complete with bizarre perspectives and skewed memories. The single most "adult" thing said by a kid in the movie was when Squints kisses Wendy, and the one kid says "He's in deep shit now!". The whole movie hearkens back to a better time. When kids would spend an entire summer day outside, often going to an abandoned lot to have fun. And no one cared that they were doing it, because the kids weren't doing anything harmful. They weren't experimenting with drugs, alcohol or sex. They weren't breaking into places and stealing stuff. They weren't beating each other up (mostly) or doing drive-bys over "turf". They were kids being kids, and enjoying that. I'm glad I caught the tail-end of those days, back when parents parented and the result was kids that could be trusted to spend the day outside without supervision. Damn I'm old. On a lighter note, being a dirty old man means that I snickered when George said "Show me the gherkin!"

21:04 Hank Aaron was the first player to break Babe Ruth's record, that's why he wanted the picture. Hank's record stood until Barry Bonds broke it, but let's be honest, Barry like every other big hitter in the 90s was juicing like crazy. Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron are the only 100% clean home run record holders i personally care about. The rest are fishy. Even with roids Barry was the only other player to break 700 home runs

THE SANDLOT! It's that fireworks scene, for some reason, that always gets me. It shows that, while they're all still kids, and still get amazed by the visuals of fireworks, Benny's goal was just to be better at Baseball because he truly loved the sport! They really don't make movies like this anymore!

This was such a great reactions and comments here ! I enjoyed both your reactions and comments very much. I enjoy sports movies a lot because they usually throw in a lot of life learning lessons with the sports . My favorite scene in Sandlot is not really sports related but it does take place at the towns pool area.... I love it when the "SteveO" kid gets to kiss his crush. It's not exactly a welcomed kiss but she does smile about it afterwards . Later in my life I actually had two different bosses that would tell me "Your Killin' Me" but they would laugh about it later because I was pretty silly. I think they kept me around because I did my work but I also made things pretty light hearted at work.
I Love that Darth Vader is in this movie so much.... probably that is my favorite part that and Hercules . I Love Hercules ! Thank you both for this reaction it was a lot of fun.

This was filmed in my town. The woman outside the pool was a regular at the store where I worked and one of my co-workers was a "Pool Honey" but she hated the eye shadow color so she spent the whole day at the pool avoiding being on camera. There is a paved path behind the pool where they all look in after getting tossed out, and I've stood there a few times while walking the dogs trying to get the right angle. The Drug Store didn't have any work done to make it look old. It just looked like that in the 90's.
