Imagine in 2006 going to see this movie with your parents and expecting a goofy Adam Sandler comedy and you end up bawling your eyes out from the 2nd half of the movie. I still don't think my dad has emotionally recovered from watching it.
I saw this guy on Twitter that said he took his mom to go see it to cheer her up after her dad died, not knowing the twist of the movie.
@@TheLegendarySchmidt Oh my god that's horrible!!!!
This movie went from really funny to the whole theater crying their eyes out, it was crazy. People knock this movie, but it's really good and has a message in it.
Also, this movie actually taught me that you should cherish every moment with the people you love.
People knock it? I always just thought it was really underrated. I love this movie.
@willvr4 I personally hate this movie based off a bad first impression. I was like 20 and went to see it in the theater with a group of my friends. We picked it because we thought it would be another Sandler movie like Billy Madison or Little Nicky. None of us were prepared and it absolutely ruined the night. It was the movie equivalent of biting into an apple and it tasting like fish.
I can tell most people never seen reign over me this movie wasn’t even that sad
@@budgetseagull That makes sense. I love the movie but it's not really an "out with the boys" movie especially if you're going out for drinks or w/e afterwards.
@@budgetseagullyou hate a movie cause it wasn’t what you expected what😭🤦♂️
There’s a reason why you guys are one of my favorite reactors, because I’ve watched so many reactions to this movie, and nobody picked up on the name. Morty. Mort. Which means death. Mortician. Mortuary.
You guys are so quick. I love it. One of my favorite movies.
Mort is also dead in french
...and Mortal/Mortality
Death is "Morte" in portuguese
Mortem is Latin for death.
absolutely based of George to catch that! I was impressed
For a decade and a half I’ve recommended this movie to ANYBODY Who says “Sandler can’t act seriously”. An absolutely incredible movie and plot.
He’s great in Uncut Gems
Anybody who says "Sandler can't act seriously" needs to sit down, shut up, and watch "Reign Over Me". But yeah, this is a great example too.👍
@@-Gorby- Did you even see the end of the movie? Hateful Trolls like you are just a worthless waste of space.
It wasn't a dream. I think you just didn't understand it, even with them discussing it directly at the end. The theme of the movie is great.
By always looking forward and ignoring the present, when you get to the end there won't be much to remember about the past. Love who you have while you have them.
@@-Gorby- Did you understand the ending at all? It must be challenging going through life as a miserable Troll.
George's face when Kate Beckindsale is in the scene.
Classic
Can't blame him, and they should definitely react to Underworld.
@@jculver1674 It'll just be 30 minutes of a thirsty George.
@@jculver1674 100%
She's absolutely beautiful, I'm awe struck too.
I mean... It's Kate Beckinsale! ❤
11:03
George: Happy days
Me, waiting for them to notice that Fonzi is in the movie: Ayyyyyy
I doubt these Youngsters have ever seen Happy Days (to their detriment). Sit on it!
thought the same thing
Don't care what people say, this movie is great! Always shakes a few tears loose and as someone who works a lot, it is a good reminder to put family and loved ones first.
And to enjoy the journey
I’d rewind and relive a day with my grandma every so often.
You can't rewind, that's the gimmick.
@@TheDancerMacabre that sounds awful then. Life is short enough as it is, who’d wanna fast forward but not be able to rewind.
@@TheDancerMacabreyou can rewind as an observer. Just not as a participant.
My favorite fact about this movie is that the little kid neighbor is Cameron Monaghan, who later plays Joker in Gotham, and Cal Kestis in the Star Wars Jedi games, among other things
His biggest claim to fame was playing Ian on Shameless.
now you said it i see it!
I always forget about the Terry Crews scene until it comes up, and end dying with laughter all over again.
@@ganymeade275 my favorite part is when he farts in someone's face. Quality cinema
I was being sarcastic...
@@MrJholshouser41 You did it poorly
@@ganymeade275 so did the 6 people who actually find that scene funny
@@MrJholshouser41 Strange, I see 102... not counting myself and the reactors, but good try. I'd recommend taking a seat before you embarrass yourself further.
Btw the main arab guy in the beginning was Rob Schneider 😁 I've noticed that only now
WHY ARE WE STILL DOING THIS?
And why is the scene still funny?!
Kudos to George for tumbling to the fact that "mort" is latin for death. This is one of several films around this time that modify the "It's a Wonderful Life" trope. Another is Jim Belushi's "Mr. Destiny" (1990), although in this case it's more like "It Could Have been a Wonderful Life". I like this one because of the grim turn it takes. And Henry Winkler is magnificent, as usual.
@@noirangel6416 they cover this in the video wrap up
This movie does take an offensively emotional turn
If it's pure comedy, it would get boring. You need something to contrast with it
One thing I love about this movie is that it’s basically a modern day version of A Christmas Carol! It’s not one to one, but he changes after seeing his past, present, and future! And we wakes up being friendly to a younger man who he was rude to previously!
@@marcusisahooper Click also has elements of It's a Wonderful Life as well.
@@Spindler2007 I am of the opinion that It's a Wonderful Life has a similar structure to A Christmas Carol. It follows George's life as a kid (past), his dire situation at Christmas (present), and shows what life would be like without him (future)
@@KyleBaran90 very true
About 3 years ago I lost my dad to COVID-19, and because of the virus, we weren't able to be there with him in his final hours. So the scene where Michael didn't get to say goodbye to his dad hits me even harder.
I found this from a quick google search. I gotta admit, I got curious about the O'Doyle name.
"Adam Sandler is Jewish, as most people know. James O'Doyle was a double agent spying for the Nazis on England during WW2. As Sandler hates Nazis, as we all should, he decided to make the name O'Doyle a villain's last name in his movies. It's mentioned in four of his movies, Billy Madison, Click, Fifty First Dates, and Mr Deeds."
Huh. I always thought the whole family dying in Billy Madison was almost out of left-field brutal for the movie it was in and now I know why.
What source does the quote come from? Because I found an interview with Adam Sandler where he was asked about it, and he said that he and the writers on Billy Madison just came up with the name out of the blue, and Sandler decided to continue using them in his movies as he found it hilarious
I always thought it was the last name of an old bully from his youth
@@Replicaate It wouldn't be the first time someone in Hollywood hid personal vendettas in movies
So O'Doyle doesn't rule
Funny story about this movie. I'm a hospice chaplain. In the community area of a nursing home, two little old ladies were watching this movie. One had to keep explaining to the other what was happening in different scenes. It was classic when she was trying to explain my Adam Sandler was farting on the 'Hoff's face.
George checking out Kate Beckinsale. 1:43 A man of culture indeed.
I mean who isn’t attracted to her? Straight, gay, male, female.. she transcends sexuality 😂
She's the best part of the movie
The kid next door is a young Cameron Monaghan who grew up to be the Joker in the Gotham series, Ian Gallagher in the US remake of Shameless and Cal Kestis in the Star Wars: Jedi games.
Oh damn that's so true! He looks almost the same :P
Holy crap doesn’t look like him if true gotta check
All Praise Saint Ian / Gay Jesus. 🙏🏳🌈
The dad scene and the death scene where he shows the note to his ex-wife are absolutely heart breaking.
This movie and Stranger Than Fiction were great dramatic turns from famous comedic actors Sandler and Ferrell respectively.
7:15 Don't worry George. I understand completely. The first time I watched this, I was in my late teens and deep in my Kate Beckinsale phase when I was watching almost anything she was in. And that was a big reason why I watched this.
Only other movie I know she's in is Underworld.
@darkaoshi27 There's also Serendipity. Which is a double-whammy for me, since I'm also a huge fan of John Cusack.
@@darkaoshi27 She's also in "Absolutely Anything", which is a good Simon Pegg vehicle that also can lay plausible claim to being the last Monty Python movie.
@@nbartlett6538 It's the last film that Robin Williams did. He does voice work in it. It didn't get as much publicity as it should have because he was gone before it was released.
My ex-girlfriend's stepfather was a stoic stone-cold commercial fisherman from Newfoundland... and the "I love you, son" scene where Adam Sandler keeps rewinding is the one of the only time that man has ever cried. Turns out that he had a falling out with his own dad, they said some really mean things to each other and swore never to speak to each other again... and this scene utterly broke him. You just don't expect such a heavy scene in an Adam Sandler comedy - so it sneaks up on you.
This movie has one of the most brutal changes in tone of any movie I've seen, and I love it.
"The first time your dog fetches something for you."
"I went somewhere way dirtier."
"I was watching a dog video, so that is on my mind right now."
"Same."
"The weird guy" in the mattress store is especially hilarious in Grandma's Boy, which is one of the funniest movies ever made imo.
Nick Swardson, who also was a recurring character named Terry in Reno 911. Hilarious!
Him and his "roommates" lol
Great cast in grandma's boy!!
“Shiiiit’s weak!!” “Let’s fucken RAGE!” I love Swardson in that movie!
Great stoner movie
One of the wildest and best tonal shifts in a movie ever.
Saw this one in theaters back in the day. I remember being with my friend who never cries or admits he ever did, and when I looked over during that “end” scene, he had tears running down his face and he said “Adam Sandler got me” lol this is such a great underrated (or atleast not talked about enough) comedy/drama. This was prime Adam Sandler
I’ve seen this movie a million times and never knew that the mom voices Marge in The Simpsons! Now it seems so obvious!
His death in the movie unlinked him from the remote so it could be utilized by Morty to rewind the time back to before they met.
Michael (Sandler) hugging his son while sobbing over his dad's death reminds me so much of how my dad hugged me at his father's funeral. One of the only times I saw him cry.
O'Doyle grows up to become one of the truly great Jokers depicted on screen. Phenomenal on Gotham
Holy shit-snacks, I never realized that was Cameron Monaghan. And you're right, he was great in Gotham, and amazing in Shameless.
I was thinking that too and his wife is the vampire girl from underworld.
@@ElytraNoble idk if that's the woman I seen when I checked but if so WOW. Woman's got some great 🍈
Oh shit that's him! Neat
the scene in the rain never fails to make me cry like a bitch
Hello Simone & George!😊 Prince Habeeboo is Rob Schneider. Michael's 27 year old daughter is Katie Cassidy (Arrow). His 14 year old daughter is Lorraine Nicholson (Jack Nicholson's daughter). His son Ben at 17 years old is Jonah Hill, like you guessed Simone.😉 This is definitely the darkest Adam Sandler film I have seen! Great reactions to this crazy Adam Sandler film, CineBinge Duo!!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Sandler in this, Uncut Gems and Reign Over Me are two other movies he was in where it was a more serious role and not his normal Sandler stuff. 50 First Dates is a good movie too and has a few characters from this movie in it as well.
Don’t forget punch drunk love
"It was like a little Tic Tac...Come here I'll Freshen your breathe!"
Shaka when the walls fell is from a Star Trek TNG episode. "Darmok" it's a good one. You guys didn't look like you got the reference.
Cult classic episode!
Probably the most biggest guarantee if you ever wanna make me cry... play the last 30% of this movie.
I think Sandler dedicated this movie to his Dad. Think he used this movie to work out some of his grief after his Dad’s passing.
Movies like this have helped me to frame my personal philosophy of always enjoying every possible moment while you can.
The scene with his dad will NEVER fail to bring me to tears! such an underappreciated scene that absolutely makes this movie!
It's rare a comedy movie will show raw emotion in the end like this one does. You don't see yourself crying at what first appears to be an Adam Sandler comedy.
I still don’t see how they didn’t add dementia into this story line. Like he was forgetting major life things and nobody questioned it other than just him being distant
Click is such an underrated movie and honestly could be a 90’s movie. It’s got that vibe to it.
The dub actor in the Spanish voice part was Gerardo García, he's Mexican dub actor very famous in all South America, he appears in countless movies and documentaries for real 😊 I find amazing that they chose the real Spanish dubbing team instead of some random Spanish speaking people 😊
One of Sandler's best movies. A great premise, lots of hilarious comedy, and some truly heart-breaking drama. Plus...Kate Beckinsale.😻
As you guys are getting pretty deep into the Sandler-verse; at some point you HAVE to do Uncut Gems - or as I like to call it "A theater-wide anxiety attack over a fucking rock".
7:15 Absolutely George! Kate Beckinsale is a smokeshow. Both of you should check out the Underworld films.
That scene with the father absolutely kills me every time. How he didn't appreciate him and was flippant and rude. I had something similar with my mother, so much I wish I would have tried to say and do and apologze for, but she passed at the age of 45 when I was younger, and I'll never have the chance.
The regret never leaves, even after years its as heavy as it always was. Words can not express what I would give just to hug her again, or hear her say my name. It's so sad to say I've forgotten her voice. Miss you, mom.
This movie is so good. It really makes a grown man cry.
It’s also fairly “Christmas Carol” with the angel spirit guiding him through his life and past and future mistakes to be shifted in character and do better with the fresh start realizations.
Great movie though! One of Sandler’s somewhat slept on top best.
In the Latin-american spanish version of the movie, the scene where they talk in spanish is dubbed in portugese
P.S. To make the dad scene more gut wrenching, Adam Sandler's own father passed away some time before shooting that scene, so it was all the more impactful to him and everyone on set.
I thought they would have went mandarin (Chinese) or Russian or French?
@@blink1821986 Yeah, a more foreign language would've been the obvious choice, but tbh the portugese came out really funny due to the pronunciation and tone they use lmao give it a listen if you can
Oh man, David Hasselhoff getting Poot Mouth is great. But seriously, there is something about the shot of Adam in the rain, on the ground screaming out for his family. Like, that shot actually legit scares me. That shot is (or at least was, for me) the moment when it really hits home how far we've come from what seemed to be just an innocent comedy.
It's almost as if Christopher Walken's "Death" was like the ghost of past, present, and future all in one from the original "A Christmas Carol" movie. Extremely similar premise.
I always remembered Sandler dying in the rain and being upset, but watching this reaction, somehow I forgot about the scene with his dad, when it happened during the reaction, not gonna lie it broke me, I just started crying. This movie definitely shows Sandlers acting range, well done.
my father lost a ton of weight for medical reasons. He had a flap like in the movie, i made a reference to that scene and my dad just laughed and did the same thing Sandler does in that scene
Julie Kavner is also in a movie with Robin Williams and Robert DeNiro. 1990 Awakenings it is based on a true story
This movie made me change the way I make decisions. Whenever I"m working at home and family asks for something I intentionally stop think of this film and remember what's important. Family ends up winning every time.
The Hasselhoff "I taste shit" scene had me laughing so hard that I could not breathe. I think I got stuck laughing for like 10 minutes. We had to pause it, then rewind to see what we missed, then I went to far, saw it again and there I go again.
This movie is like the modern day "It's A Wonderful Life", only so much more gripping. "Click" is a movie you can't unsee. It has so many positive messages about family, workaholism and chasing dreams that you weren't meant to chase.
As soon as I saw this pop up I was excited, but also knew exactly how the 2nd half of the movie would go for Simone. Great reaction guys
I was almost in shock by the end of this movie because I was expecting another Adam Sandler goofy comedy!!! Never expected such an emotional well done movie from Adam Sandler but I really think this is in his top two or three!!!
16:20 I never watched it on Spanish, had to check. In Latin American version he changes the language to Portuguese. Many times in dubbing they take as much care as possible with lip sync, so I guess they chose Portuguese to make it easier.
When people say Adam Sandler can't act or drive emotion, I direct them to Click. Same with Nicolas Cage and The Family Man, which I would thoroughly recommend, in case you guys haven't watched it yet.
Fantastic reaction.
I love how George kept cutting himself off when talking about what he would “do” with the remote 🤣
It’s crazy that such a silly movie is also so heartwarming and tear jerking.
One of my fave Adam Sandler movies!
I remember seeing this movie in the theater with friends - it was entertaining. It had its funny moments and its sentimental ones. Then it was off to pizza & beer. Since that time, my dad had passed, and I haven't seen this movie since . . . until this reaction (and I had forgotten "that" scene). My oh my, during the "remote repeat" scene - - well, this time it hit waaay different. After the reaction & trivia, I had go back to 18:45 to do my own "repeat" and watch you & George laughing (especially George) to get right again.
His best movie, funny, dramatic. If I had that remote, I would go back in time and see my Kate son again and let him know how much I love him and save him.
11:03 George: "Happy days"
Not sure if ageorge realized it, but great pun as Michael's father is played by Henry Winkler, who played The Fonz on Happy Days.
34:27 'Shaka, when the walls fell' is a Star Trek: The Next Generation reference
For some reason people discredit this movie just because it's past Sandler's "prime" but damn is it good. From the goofiest of comedy to actual gut wrenching emotion without any awkwardness or feeling forced.
One of Sandler's rare serious comedies, that definitely showed he's capable of very serious films. And then lo, he makes EXCELLENT serious films
If you want to see another amazing Adam Sandler movie, you should absolutely watch Spanglish! It’s also a beautiful story. 💙💙💙
It's amusing that there's a scene with Henry Winkler and George unintentionally says Happy Days
The kid playing O’Doyle is Cameron Riley Monaghan. He was AMAZING in the series GOTHAM as the “not” Joker. Basically he played someone who was suppose to be the Joker but do to the movie Joker coming out they never actually called him it.
The movie got an Academy Award nomination for the makeup effects.
16:27 in Latin American Spanish, they had this sort of Brazilian Portuguese accent - also, in the midst of all the celebrities and cameos, teenage Samantha is Jack Nicholson's daughter
I think this is the only movie that's ever made me tear up LAUGHING, then tear up CRYING! This movie doesn't get the recognition is should.
"Shaka when the walls fell" is such a deep cut. 😂😂😂😂
Simone catching something Simpsons related before George?!?!? Haha
Henry Winkler seems like a great dude. Fonzie was iconic in the "cool guy" way, but older Winkler is just a lovable, overly friendly actor.
"What is that noise?" Thats Walken baby😎😎
2:18 that kid is in the tv show Shameless as ian gallagher..
this movie is a definite emotional rollercoaster. also, for the longest time, I've always assumed Click was inspired by the R.L. Stine Goosebumps story lol had no idea it was just a coincidence and Adam Sandler was almost sued over it. the Goosebumps story was also one of R.L.Stine's stories that made it onto the TV series too. that's how I know it. it is VERY similar, so I can see why R.L. Stine thought there was some copying done.
this movie is just a comedic episode of black mirror
I feel like "It was all a dream" only works for Alice in Wonderland
Random fun fact that most people miss is that Rob Schneider had an uncredited cameo as "Price Habeeboo" at the beginning.
You guys should add the BAD BOYS movies to your poll‘ I think you guys would love it !
If someone saw your reaction at 29:54, they would be very confused without the context of the previous scene. You look devastated that Nick Swardson was watching Adam Sandler sleep.
This is the only movie that made me cry a bit in the theater because the emotional twist is so unexpected that I just wasn't prepared to have that father/son death moment and it really makes you think about your parents. Thankfully my friend also had tears in his eyes when the movie was over so it wasn't super awkward for either of us, lol.
Probably one of the only comedies that pretty much makes everyone cry.
1:24 My mind always goes where George’s mind does. Then I feel like Simone’s look of shame is also directed at me 😂
26:20 "I love you, son."
That's not a moment you want to be on autopilot for.
In the Latin America version of the scene when Adam Sandler changes the language, they start to speak portuguese 🤣 very clever because you can still understand pretty much what they're saying while they are still speaking another language.
One of Adam Sandler's best acting performances... hes really underrated with the drama.
If you want to see an amazing movie where he plays another tear jerking role, check out "the cobbler". He plays a show maker who literally gets to walk "in someone else's shoes". It's amazing
I had one of those "quarters" when I was 12
Adam Sandler has a great serious role in the movie "REIGN OVER ME"
Great movie! 👍
The shoka when the walls fell is a start trek next generation reference
Two words: Sandy Wexler - a great and very sweet Sandler comedy (note the name? SANDy wexLER). The movie that was his "comeback" movie after a run of really bad movies, but which is still criminally unknown except to the hardcore sandler fans. And then - Hustle.
You guys realise this movie is basically a modern take on Dicken's, A Christmas Carol, with its ghosts of the past, present, and future, right? And Sandler's character as the more likeable version of Ebeneezer Scrooge.
