My sister is watching star wars chronologically, she didn't know Palpatine was Sidious until this scene lol. It was so glorious to see her surprise realizing it.
Lucky her. That must have felt awesome
I wish I could have watched it chronologically l
lol xD
I love how my wife reacted to finding out Anakin was Darth Vader 😂😂 It was great!
She couldn't tell he was evil from Episode 1 and 2???
"He puts up a better fight than the Jedi Council did, that's for sure."
I cannot argue.
we all agree
*everyone liked that*
Well sidious knew he had to go all out and use force scream to end the council quick. Against maul/savag he knew he could beat both them and he wanted to show off a bit
Incorrect, and this just showcases one of the many examples where Dave Filoni just doesn’t understand Star Wars. Look at how Sidious initially engages the Council and Maul/Savage. Against the council, Sidious is clearly enraged and “force screams” to immediately disorient them. He knew exactly who he could take out first and did so moving at the speed of light. After killing Kolar and Tin, he moves to engage Fisto and Windu. Despite, diving deep into the darkside and pulling out all the stops to kill him, Fisto still manages to fend him off momentarily. Against Savage and Maul he is smiling and laughing at them and takes a defensive stance against them knowing he could kill them at any time. He always had the intention of keeping Maul alive, so he wasn’t fighting to kill him. Therefore, he was never fighting him at his full strength. Savage....was play time for Sidious. He was never a threat or challenge to him at all.
In the end, he was trained by Sidious himself, he knew his moves to some deegree.
Ahsoka: "Where's the Chancellor?"
Anakin: "He's on a little diplomatic mission on Mandalore"
Yoda: "Good relations with the Mandalorians, he must have"
lmfao xD
Mace Windu : “it’s settled then.”
If this is a consular ship, where's the ambassador?
hahahaha
Obi-wan always struck me as a true Jedi. Not the "no emotion" stuff, but having and expressing your emotions, but maintaining control. Don't suppress your feelings, just don't let them get the better of you.
Exactly! The Jedi had lost their way by eliminating all emotions & tried to be Vulcans. I believe that's the balance that they talk about.
It's not anger, but hatred, not fear, but anxiety, not love, but lust that are bad. Too much of them makes the person out of balance.
one of the best thats for sure
Feelings and emotions aren't the same thing. But in pressing down your emotions, you can end up numbing your feelings of other things too. The Jedi rely on their feelings; they're open, not closed.
Which in my opinion was the failure of the Jedi order outside of Obi'wan. They were suppressing their emotions which made them unable to perceive the dark side. Luke's new Academy should have been based on the philosophy of Obi'wan and Qui'gon. A more "grey" Jedi, that was less about suppressing emotions and more about keeping them under control.
And just think if Obi Wan turned out as well as he did under Qui Gon’s teachings imagine how much better Anakin would’ve been. To me the problem with Obi Wan wasn’t just his inexperience with being a master but also Anakin struggled not to feel rivaled by him as more of a brother not a father figure. In an alternate timeline instead of feeling the need to compete he’d be far more disciplined and attuned with the force and himself while having the master that would have the needed knowledge, wisdom, and experience to guide him through everything especially with his darker emotions.
Maul: "Ok, I have to fight with all my power or I am doomed"
Sidious: "Let's have some fun"
He needed the vacation and to stretch his legs a little... it's not easy being the Senate day in day out

What is also great about this scene is when Savage says “I’m not like you... I never was” is basically him redeeming himself before he dies. He was a decent person before he was transformed against his will to do horrible things. He was also always called monster, brute, animal etc. And so at the end of his life he chose to be who he truly was and not what everyone thought of him to be
Thank you
#savageisagoodguy
I interpreted that as him saying "you need to follow your destiny alone, I was never going to be able to keep up."
Dave filoni looks like if Quinten Tarantino grew a beard and wore a hat
It's really tragic for Maul though. Both were nothing more than tools. Savage was able to escape through death. Maul's suffering was longer.
Gotta hand it to Maul, he had the guts to go against the entire Senate

How come they got Ian McDiarmid for Rebels and frickin Angry Birds Star Wars, but not the Clone Wars? haha
General Grievous Rebels probably got a higher budget for the final season. Also animating and rendering the clone wars is more costly, probably couldn’t afford the constantly hire Mcdiarmid for the role

Oh man. That scene when Satine dies gets me everytime. No tears, just deep sadness. There is no emotion, there is peace.
true ;-; maybe a few tears?
@@ThePopB0x Nah. I just don't cry easily. It takes a lot to make me cry and usually with star wars, other things that are happening gets me all hyped up and that usually overrides the potential tears lol
Gosh, the Jedi with "there is no emotion" are giving an upper hand to the Sith: the Sith will use their lie "you're AFRAID of using it." Well, a lie, because the Sith will never use positive ones. Why then? The negative ones are more 'effective'.
The Dark side of the Force is a pathway to that many lies that some would call that count unnatural.
Ex.:
"I've brought peace, freedom, justice and security to my new empire."
What it actually means:
'I've brought peece, slavedom, juicetice and terror to empire I'm slave to.'

Savage Opress’ death made me sad because I realized that he was just trying to be the best brother ever. He didn’t want power, just family. 💔
Savage was a fucking monster killing innocents across the galaxy lol
@@hefrov10 he was turned into a monster, basically brainwashed.
@@hefrov10 Not really his fault. Before the nightsisters changed him, he was actually a decent guy

This version of Sidious is my favourite. With his 2 not 1 classic lightsabers and sinister outfit screams sith.
agreed my guy :D
it's kinda cool, because Sidius having two lightsabers makes sense even if you count the movies... he lost one when figting Windu (thrown out of a window) and he used the second one when fighting Yoda
Filoni is awesome. He knows so much about these characters and this universe. What fits and what doesn't. I wish he could have done 7, 8, and 9.
Gotta hand it Maul regardless. It's admirable how he never gives up but it just sucks to see him lose all the time he deserves to win more than anyone
Maul is definitely a tragic character.
He actually loses only to sidious. He usually defeats or stalemates Kenobi in all of their TCW duels.
Me when Theory starts covering TCW bonuses: A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

*This is the best lightsaber duel in the Clone Wars, even better than Ahsoka vs. Maul. I will hold onto this opinion to my dying cough!*
Ahoska vs maul was best because of the mocap.
Or dying cackle as it were.
Ahsoka vs maul is like not even top 5.
@@thescruffinator8830 I don't care about mocap or Ray Park. This duel looked better and was more emotional. Ahsoka and Maul had no previous encounters and there was literally no emotional stakes, whereas Maul finally saw his master after years and Savage frickin dies.
@@generalgrievous3731 There was so much emotion in the Ahsoka vs maul duel. You can really feel the dark side when you’re watching this fight.
I thought it was interesting that the moment Savage was gutted Maul ignored the fight with Sidious and ran straight to him. Just like how Savage ran to Feral after Ventress pushed him in his first trial. They were more alike than he knew.
Best scene from all the Clone Wars series. Watching Sidious dancing around with two lightsabers and fighting is something unforgettable.
lmao
I think most people have mixed emotions about Maul, he's so cool but can be such an a$$hole too.
I think hes like an anti villian. Instead of a violent killer like the punisher that's fighting for good reasons hes more of a good guy that's been brainwashed to believe he has to be a certain way and constantly doing asshole things but in cool ways
He has no choice. Sheev raised him, he's got to be an asshole, when he not a dick, but never a pussy.
@Starscream91 An excuse for being an asshole is no defense. Where you going with this?
@Starscream91 No one is excusing him. He can be an asshole all his life and never commit evil. The entire asshole comment is a joke, you know.
Bruh.

These breakdowns are the best. Never wouldve known about these deleted scenes w/o this vid
When you're about to give your child a whoopin after he misbehaves
Maul: Have Mercy, Please PLEASE!!!!!
Palpatine: (getting his force lightning ready) there is no mercy!!! (And then he straight up electrocute his former apprentice)
Palpatine was basically Maul's father figure, from a point of view.
Even though Maul is so mean and evil, you kinda feel sympathy for him.
@@lexi46960 Tbf, Maul is probably one of the most tragic villains in all of Star Wars, If you think about it. (Besides Darth Vader)
He was asking a quick death for mercy
I know, I'm not a real fan. Can you tell my why Sidious didn't killed him?
@@mthecatholic1481 Well Palpatine said it himself that he had some other uses that he needed from Maul. That would mean, (if you ever read the comics) he basically punish him by having him get tortured along with Count Dooku.
Analysis like this is why Dave Filoni should have directed the sequel trilogy.
Still one of my favorite arcs in the entire show! I remember being absolutely blown away by this episode. I rewatched it so many times now!
I truly can listen to Dave Filoni talk Star Wars all day everyday!
"He put up a better fight than the Jedi council did..."
HAHAHAHAHAHAH this is why I love this guy
To be fair, the Jedi Order was in decline. Most of these were academic scolars, explorers or bureaucrats with rusty lightsaber training and arrogant, thinking that they had monopoly on the Force game. Palps caught them completely by surprise. Entire armies have lost battles just for being flat-footed.
@@JamesSarantidis do you get paid to make up excuses for them? Lol just kidding. But really, they've been on the frontlines fighting in the Clone Wars as generals for the last 3 years by that time so I don't really think they're as rusty as you think. Also, Windu and co. came in knowing it might potentially be the Sith lord they were looking for so I'm pretty sure they came in somewhat "ready" for might go down. Tbh, I really think it's just a matter of Lucas wanting to get the point across to the audience as quick as possible that Palps was powerful regardless of whether the scene looked good or not.
@@BenyaminLorit Oh, I think the scene was crap. That was my genuine attempt to salvage my suspension of disbelief with what I know of the established lore. If all Jedi were good like Anakin/Windu/Yoda etc then they wouldn't fail, they would arrest Palpatine on the spot. I agree that they could have a better scene, though (maybe clones ambushing them, or Anakin stepping in on an epic 2v5). That's why the prequels are a mess. So much are happening, so little time. It would be amazing as a series.
@@JamesSarantidis for real, man. Long-form storytelling is really where SW stories fit best. Heck even if it were just split into two parts, it would've allowed for better flowing scenes. Then again, "Episode III - Part 1" would've been weird to hear but I'd still take it. Haha!
I love how the episode Maul reaches his peak of presence is the one where Palpatine decides to pop in for a moment and rip down everything his former apprentice built up. Sidious is a seriously underrated villain, often people see Vader as the best villain, Vader had the biggest fall, but he was never COMPLETELY evil. Palpatine NEVER did anything good, anything that could be perceived as such I guarantee was an investment for sinister gain later on. Plagueis didn’t make Palpatine evil, he simply emboldened what was already there.
I absolutely loved this fight, I even saw the deleted scene from this duel, which made it even more epic

The deleted scene is canon. They removed it due to time constraints owing to the duration of the episode. Maul was able to do that and it's because there's no concept of passive force barriers and sidious didn't expect it
This is the only time throughout all of Star Wars we see Palpatine really use his power

Also I think both Savage AND Maul should illicit sympathy. As despicable as Mauls actions are you have to remember he was taken and raised by Palpatine who tortured him emotionally and physically, training him to become the epitome of rage and evil. And was discarded the moment Sheevs no longer had a use for him. “Product of his environment” is a massive understatement for the character of Maul

I love this type of content!
Great video!
Regarding Obi-Wan, there is more to learn here... It is also a lesson as to why Jedi should not have attachments... Had Obi-Wan kept his feelings in check, Maul would not spot his weakness for Satine... Ironically, the very reason Satine dies at the hands of Maul is precisely because of Obi-Wan...
The Jedi code prevents attachments and display of emotions precisely to avoid the targets of said emotions to become victims of their eventual enemies... Because as guardians of the Republic, there will eventually be enemies the Jedi would have to face, Sith or any other enemy for that matter... so any attachment is leverage, and an innocent victim sacrificed.
Now, regarding Palpatine, I do not think for a second Maul poses a threat to him... This is the same as a cat playing with its food... I also believe Palpatine would be a bit of a sadist and pain and pleasure could be his thing, all things considered. So, him being even momentarily pinned by Maul, adrenaline rush and feelings of pain may actually be a game to him... At the same time, to give Maul hope he has a chance, only to take it away, and leave him alive to know that he is alive only because Palpatine allows it so, is not only a display of power but that of personal pleasure; to see Maul ask for mercy... and him to actually give it to him, but just in order for Maul to suffer the fact he asked for it.
Incidentally, I think that also is how Palpatine operates... He knows Maul... He knows he would plot a revenge... and during this, 1) he would probably take down enemies Palpatine would not need to later on 2) rally criminals to a common goal, thus actually occupying them elsewhere, away from his affairs and 3) potentially out hidden threats in the process.
Say what you want but I think Sidious was laughing because he finally met his match, and together the two brothers would put up a fight. This is why at the end when Maul kicked Sidious he immediately decided to use the force and defeat him. When Sidious cannot beat opponents with a lightsaber he always falls back to his immense strength in the force, like he did with Yoda.
to be fair tho sidious disarmed maul with his lightsaber before he starts using the force
Great video man
The finishing move on savage oppress is the most flawless combat movement in all Star Wars. It just feels so right
Maul had Sidious on one knee. He came close to beating Palpatine than anyone ever has.
An argument could be made for Master Windu, but I agree. He is one of the few.
@@JamesSarantidis I meant at the time lol
Why do people think Maul isn't powerful enough to break sidious's force "bubble"? Sidious literally chose maul as an apprentice because he had even more potential than mother talzin, who palpatine was going to learn from. Talzin was also a major threat so I dont see why people think maul isnt powerful enough to do that.
