Variegated VS non-variegated plants

- This is a tour video showing variegated next to non-variegated counterparts with explanation of their physical characteristics and difference in care. I share a little bit about why plants may variegate as a survival mechanism. In the tour, I was sure to vote my personal preference on which version of the plant I prefer, in hope to encourage you to comment down below to let me know your preference. Is it interesting to note that while variegated plants cost more than their green form, they are not always better looking or better to care for.

“I was buying this is pot and the plant came with it” 💁🏼 is what I’m going to tell my partner next time I come home with a plant 😂
😅😅
I dropped my drink on this. 😂 😂 genius!

I remember I’ve read somewhere that indeed zz plant is one of ancient aroids, meaning at the early age of earth evolving, they’re one of first aroids grown on earth! Maybe that explains why zzs are so tough bcs it survives the test of time.
Whoaaaa that could be. I keep thinking they are related to cycads for some reason
I watch your videos religiously 😅😅 its addictive like K-dramas. 52 minutes felt like 20 minutes, i have to make sure "was that all??". Request pleasee for more hoya videos 🤗🤗
Haha thank youu

Hello from Canada. Loved the video and plant eye candy. So relaxing to watch. Thx
I love the variegated peperomia as well. The variegation gives it a metallic look. And I love that characteristic with the syngonium as well. I have them all over the front and back yard and they all look different because of the amount of light they get. Love it!
Ouch - the variegated maranta in Singapore is very very expensive! At least 5-6 times more than the plain green one. I like the variegated one though! Mine has white and green variegation- but light is tricky ! And the Monstera Thai con is cheaper than albos here. That’s for the video- love to see your collection!
I'm so glad to hear the Ring of Fire can grow back. I bought one on Etsy in Feb and then it got frigid COLD! It was just 23°F the morning I ran to pick it up at the PO. It has great roots but some leaves are cold damaged 💔. Love your plants and content!
Thank you. Frost damage is a bummer, hope the main stem is healthy enough to push out new shoots
I really liked seeing the regular version vs variegated version of plants, interesting. Thank you, Sean for another good video. God bless you!😇🙏🌴
5:12 Whoa, I've never seen a peace lily with big foliage like that, so gorgeous 😀
Wow that boston fern😍😍😍
I just love watching your videos they are so relaxing, your collection it's stunning. And I love how respectful you are, not only to others but to your plants too. ❤️
A pleasure to watch this informative video. Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for your time spend.
❤️❤️
I love how calm you are about seeing mealies in your maranta. I definitely would not have reacted as nonchalantly. Congrats on all the beautiful plants.
😀🙏🏽
"I don't own every plant in the world"... You sure? 😜
Pretty sure 😀
Thanks for sharing! I’ve never seen a variegated fern before! Loved seeing the side by side comparison of each plant.
Love every single plant you showed. Variagated and non variagated. Thank you
All plants are awesome 😀😀
Don’t think I have ever seen a variegated Boston Fern. Lovely!
Hi i just feel sooo blessed to have you so i can make gd decisions on plants;... And working on mental health and more

The fiddle leaf fig and the hoya macrophylla, You saved the best for last 😍
wow, your collection is amazing. thank you so much for sharing your collection and your information!
I agree: tie for rubber tree and tineke! Such beautiful plants. Honestly my tineke is besties w my fiddle leaf and they hang out and grow together. You’re right 😍 the new leaves never get old! They live in bright light all day - flirting w the idea of some morning direct. I’m not the best w translating my plant care - I just kind fly by the seat of my pants!
Thanks, Sean, I enjoy your videos. You are so informative and I learn a great deal from you.
Thank youu
I see you skipped the zz raven.now i think we need to see plants with black leaves!
Haha there is an episode dedicated to that coming
@@onlyplants omg you replied! I love unwinding to your vids every night before i sleep! 🪴
Thanks for this Sean! Watching!!! ♥️
Love the video 😍
Your houseplants collection are so healthy and stunning plus the video quality is so awesome.
Totally agree with you that plants is not about what it is worth in terms of money. I love both my non variegated and variegated, rare and not rare plants and treat them with love and respect that they deserve. 💚 Most of my current variegated plants are bought luckily before this current madness.😅 After the prices went up sky high, I went back to basics and start appreciating common plants that are beautiful in the own ways and that practically no one is looking at. And they make me equally happy. 😊✌
I have applied a lot of your tips to my collection and they always work! You're our plant gurú haha. I always watch your long videos to see if I can learn something new and I always do! (I hope I can remember all of that tho xD)
🙈🙈 thank you
That variegated Billietiae though! Stunning! And I enjoy, enjoying your vids! :-)
Hi Sean. Another super informative video. I really prefer non-variegated but I love all of your plants!
I wanted to say thank you for the customer service I always get when buying your products, particularly yesterday. I haven't even placed an order but I got a really quick reply to my questions and helpful suggestions of products. Sorry for leaving a product review on your video but I'm so grateful.
Whoaaa thank youu
😂😂😂 ZZ’s and tardigrades. I’m *dying*!! I’m so happy I finally found you. You such a good job you’re very good at speaking and I absolutely love your passion for plants! Thank you for what you do!!! 💚💚💚

Thank you 😀🙏🏽
So enjoy your commentary on plants, I have learnt so much from listening to you.
Love watching your video's learn so much even if you are so far away.
i totally agree with a big pot of mature green zz is something really special!
Thank you for your videos and all the great tips and advice
I bought a variegated schefflera arboricola about two months ago and it's doing much better than I thought it would.
It has about 70% 'albino' leaves but is thriving and it looks very unique
I bought a braided three stemmed one recently, but it's only got a bit of the bright leaves, maybe 10%, and not as bright, and not the full the leaves being all white/very bright green.
Very fascinating plants
Best wishes to you and yours ^
This was exactly what I needed
Well Sean if there's construction going on I for one cannot hear it on your video
My jungle boogie is trying to push out a new leaf a week and I love it!!!
Excellent as usual 🙏
You own almost all the plants of the world 🤦♂️🤷♂️. Love you and your videos.
😅😅
Hi my Indonesian friends. It's high time to stock your own variegated plants now, esp. the variegated Florida Beauty. Because the "Orchid var" collectors in Vietnam are insanely hyped right now about variegated foliage plants and they have started to collect many kinds of them at unbelievable price recently (several times higher than the market price at the time being). Their hype at the moment is to hunt down all variegated Florida Beauty (at all costs), from anywhere possible (mostly Thailand, and second market is from Indonesia). You will see the price starts to rise crazily very soon. These people have no mercy.
Yeap same here
This is such a cool video! Love from London! ❤️
Whoaaaa London 😀🙌🏻

wow i love all your plants.
I love this episode
Hai Sean, Can't wait for your new nursery, Coz you have so many varieties of plants not only the expensive one. Watching your video it's such a blessing 🥰.
Thank youuu
🌷 Thank you! 🌷
Tineke actually loves direct sunlight, I have mine at the west facing window and it grows like crazy with no burned leaves. It does get some sun stress and the variegation turned light pink on newer leaves but it just looks even better now. But my favorite ficus is altissima, I just love green on green variegation.
Sweet! Thanks for the share
I love the hoyas!!
Oh wow the variegated fern is gorgeous. I’ve always hated peace lillies. I decided to buy a little one to see and it’s growing on me lol but damn the huge variegated ones are amazing! I have a massive Burle Marx and a variegated one that I love too. Lol Bahaha I was buying a pot and the plant came with it
Keep in mind Zamia is a genus, in the family Zamiaceae, and different from Zamioculcas, a genus in the family Araceae. ZZ plant is Zamioculcas :)
Whoaaaaaa interesting! Thanks for sharing this!
@17:01 love love love that agleonema, if it’s the one I think it is $$$$ but so beautiful.
I love your vlogs. 🌱🌿💚 and I love your plants!! Omg 🥰 as for the Variagated Monstera there seĺling for unbelievable prices here in Western Australia by the one leaf cutting 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤪 and you do not wanna know how much a two leaf cutting of the variagated adasonii went for 🤦🏽♀️ I almost fainted.
Beautiful! I’m overwhelmed , loved it! I subscribed !
Thank you and Welcome to the channel 😀🙌🏻
The plant that Gabriella plants sells is named Rio not Gabby. You can find the info on the website. It looks completely different, more white and dark green, no yellow. 👋
great video 👍🏼 and btw we cannot hear construction noise
Thank youuu the audio editing did a good job I guess 😀
Back here 4 months later 🤣.. 🌱💚🌱 just love looking at plants I'll never be able to afford 👀.. there beautiful 😍

Good morning to you vary nice plans they all so beautiful and amazing plans have a blessed day 🌿🍃⚘⚘
Thank you 😀
If you want a green german wax ivy, just get it to revert in less light. I had some strands in a variegated pot revert from the lighting and i couldn’t bring the variegation back out (although the new growth did go purple from sun/high growlight stress.)
Woww that makes sense! I went and bought a green form 😅 should have followed your advice earlier
@@onlyplants lol sorry i wasn’t faster! It didn’t dawn on me until i rewatched it again last night. Yours is one of the two channels I happily rewatch over and over 😁
Nice
It’s funny how everyone is different lol I personally don’t find variegated plants attractive, they look like an eye sore to me, I’d rather my plants have full rich green leaves, my best friend on the other hand lovessss variegated plants.. ultimately all that truly matters is that you love and care for your plants haha ❤️🌱
Your videos are so informative. I have a 12 year old green Hoya Hindu rope - actually about 3 or 4 plants in the pot. It is about 3 feet long and very full. The early growth on two of the branches have leaves that are yellowish with some pink. The leaves are healthy and have been there for years even though it looks like they should fall off. I first thought they were damaged somehow but I wonder if they had some form of variegation maybe due to some sort of condition at the time they formed.
They can actually mutate randomly sometimes, and if you propagate that node the mutation would be duplicated in the new plant. This is why we have hundreds, maybe thousands of varieties of carnosa (yes the Hindu rope is actually a carnosa 😀)
Espetáculo
the variegated rubber plants (in fact I have the white, the pink one and another variety has very dark small leaves) they can be extremely neglected and they are loyal just recently after about a year of neglect gave them a little attention and they just thrive (the pink one lost some leaves during neglect) however these are the only plants (so far) that I want to keep out of the ficus family (I have had a variety of them and I find them super challenging to keep)
You have a beautiful collection of both non-variegated and variegated plants. Perhaps you can share a video on your plant care routine? ❤️
I have a video called water with me... from two weeks ago. And am filming my pest control now so that will be out in 2-3 months! 😀

@bo.tan.ist 😀😀
Yayyyyy
Wow your variegated plants are amazing! Btw did you not get teh variegtaed peperomia metalica at a nursery tour? Greetings from the Philippines.
Hello no I did not get it 😅 I want to!
Florida Ghost got the name because the leaves come out fully white like a ghost :)
Nice video
Thank youu
We want a HOYA TOUR !😄🤩

Thank you Mr Plantito 😀
would kill for that ver billie, but cant find and too expensive
Do you have any Crotons ? If so have you ever propagated the leaves or the stem?
Tons of crotons but have not propagated one yet. I have a feeling stem is the way to go 😀
Good God! How did you get your Peace Lily to have leaves this wide? I absolutely love that, but I only find types with narrow leaves. The only minus point of the plant, in my opinion. Please help! 😉
There are lots of varieties of peace lily - I used to think they were all small narrow leaf plants too, but it turns out there are some that have wide leaves, some that grow almost 5 feet tall, some that stay tiny etc etc. I don't think you can make a plant that has narrow leaves grow wider leaves - you just have to find a wider leaf variety. Hopefully you can find some with wider leaves!
Wider leaf variaties and living in tropical rainforest (greenhouse) conditions, in indonesia works really well as well😁
My goodness that was 52mins??? And I finished it! 😂😂😂
Good lad! 😀
What is the name of that pink plant that is standing next to the variegated peperomia???
That looks like it could be an Aglaonemia 'jungle red'. 👀🍀👍
Just wondering does paraiso verde like bright light or bright indirect light? I just got mine and it was reverted. Can you give me any tips?
It likes bright light... The more lights u give, the more variegation u'll get from it.
Bright. Some direct is required
hi sir sean you can visit our place her in philippines there a lot plants here that you buy cheap.
What is the name of the plant far right at 47.12 mark? Usually it has a pattern on leaf.
Kaempferia elegans or pulchra. I bought new ones and those have their patterns remain 😀
