    Sure must have taken a long time learning everything it takes to do this......so many things involved to be great at this such as yourself.
    We do not get to see the amazing and terrific West Coast so personally like this.
    I feel there isn't enough of this to show and teach of our West Coast.......

      Amazing, that means a lot to hear. And I agree, the more people who are aware of the beauty of our ocean, the more people there will be who respect/protect it. Freediving was pretty easy for me, but I was already comfortable in and around the ocean. I think that's where most people struggle at first. I'm not a professional by any means but with a little practice some people can dive 20m or so. Getting some education is important and also practice with people who have experience. Or did you mean the filming editing? Haha

    I'm originally from Washington, and recently got into freediving and have gone a couple times when I visit family. Could I ask the details about your wetsuit? I was looking at a 5.5 mil freediving open cell and was thinking that would be sufficient. I can't last long with old 3/2 surf suit with a 2 mil vest underneath for layers.

    • @PNWSamson
      @PNWSamson  4 года назад +1

      Awesome. I use a 7mm farmer John open cell suit made with Yamamoto neoprene. You would definitely be warmer with a 5.5mm and probably be good in the summer but if you want to dive all year I would look for a 7mm. I would also recommend a farmer John suit not a waist cut because it will double the amount of neoprene you have over your core. Plus look for a high quality neoprene, like Yamamoto, as your suit will be warmer, more stretchy plus an added bonus of being eco-friendly.

    • @calvinh208
      @calvinh208 4 года назад

      @@PNWSamson I heard that 7mm was too restrictive and you end up needing too much weight, so I was trying to stay as thin as possible. I think I would be a summer diver only, and I was also thinking farmer john to double up on the core, and you can always cut it off later if you'd rather have high waist. Were you wearing a 7mm in this video? It didn't look too bulky. I really liked the edit and am subscribing now. Thanks for the info!

    • @PNWSamson
      @PNWSamson  4 года назад +1

      @@calvinh208 those are valid points. The thicker the suit the more restrictive and the more lead you will need. If you can afford it, get both. That's what I did. If you are looking for an overall suit for winter/summer I would just get 7mm. If you are a summer diver a 5.5mm should do fine. I sometimes rock 5mm bottoms with a 7mm top. You might want to consider that. Regardless of the suit, just make sure it's a high quality neoprene or it will compress to a 3mm after a few dives. I had a 7mm long John in that video. Honestly, Vancouver Island west coast has been cold this year. I was shivering in some areas with a 7mm. It's a tricky call.

      Haha yeah. No spearfishing salmon in British Columbia. Not yet anyway. The river is to easy but salt water would be nice if we could.

      In this video it's a Mako 7mm. I dive with a Cressi Seppia now though.

      Aaah I hear ya man. We moved back to Nova Scotia for 5 years when I was younger. We couldn't wait to move back the second we left. It made me appreciate BC that's for sure. Ontario has some pretty nice wreck diving though! Winter diving in crystal clear water looks epic.

      @@PNWSamson im right on the north shore or lake Superior. Can be great diving if your dressed warm enough. The cold makes it pretty desolate though. No where near the life you see in the oean. BUT if you are a wreck diver and histroy buff, this is your JAM without a doubt.

      @@PNWSamson also, no spearfishing allowed of any sort.
