- When it comes to used cars, we all know that market values can go up or down, depending on many factors, including, the time of year; new model releases; interest rates etc. But one thing I've noticed is that some of the specialist car auction sites have seen vehicles selling for significantly less than expected.
It appears that market values have been way down on what many people would expect from a traditional platform, such as AutoTrader. But why is this?

100% right with the rant on adverts and the people who want a win full pay out form any of the manufactures caught up in the diesel ‘scheme’ now known as diesel gate… no one was harmed or out of pocket, it was wrong of the manufacturers but wrong of the lawyers and courts peddling these nonsense claims.

I think the question about air intake speed on the dyno is relating to "ram air" style intakes, where the forward velocity is supposed to "improve" the positive air pressure in the airbox, like a "free" turbo... I always thought this was a bit of a dodgy area, as the air filter would basically control the amount of air available for combustion (hence shysters like K&N claiming huge BHP gains by reducing the restriction). As I recall, this was far more a "bike" thing than a "car" thing though...
Bike thing and it does make a difference both my zzr14 benefited from ram air and I believe their are dynos in wind tunnels for this reason.
Missing out on alot of space there! Get some steels in for a mezzanine above the engine room/detailing bay and a disabled lift and you can move the bikes and all the stuff in that corner up there and add another ramp downstairs!?

Hi Ricky,
When you run a car on the dyno, does intake air temp make much of a difference? I had my 765 done this past summer in Charlotte, USA (743hp at wheels and basically stock), and the IAT was 205 deg F. I would think if IAT was 105, it should make a fair bit more hp. Is it worthwhile chasing down a way to reduce IAT? I've been doing a bit of research into how I could get the intercoolers to work better. My biggest issue is having the room to work. Cheers, mate!!

When friends or family ask me can I find them a car they have e.g. £10,000 to spend on buying a car I tell them no you £7,000 to spend on buying a car and when they ask why only £7,000 I tell them the other £3,000 is to fix the problems the owner didn’t tell you about or his local garage bodged to get it out the door.

@@TD5rage If your friends or family are asking you to find them a car for circa £7k and it needs circa £3k spending on it because the owner or garage has hidden the problems you really shouldn't be looking for a car for anyone.
I would advise them to get someone else who knows what they are doing and get a £10k car.

Most luxury cars have tanked price wise the last year along with big downward adjustment in CAP tied in with cost of money / post Covid boom slump etc. Just look at how many are still there 6 plus months on. Many macs first advertised nearly a year ago now. AT price tracker a great plugin for Auto-trader.
17:04 Customers lost quite a few good cars with the emissions scandal too. The drivability of the updated "compliant" software was abysmal. By the way, not saying other manufacturers knew, but I was working at another manufacturer at the time. When a new engine, drivetrain, etc comes out, the first buyers are the competitors. We put the on a rolling road, pull them apart, etc. We knew something was up. Mechanics could tell you that out of all DI engines, VW seemed to have made one that did not soot up the intake. Like, at all.
it was also got to do with steering angle v time so linked dyno would not have shown it
Owdo Ricky, now this question is really for Kate! Given the choice would you like to go to the race meeting's with Ricky (I know u look after the kids) or would you rather not be there? When I raced a girlfriend came & when I fell off & because of him I took another bike out the guys dad was shouting at me from the pits & my ex ripped into him, lol. He soon shut up but I know my mum cud never have seen me race (not that I was any good)
Racing is boring if you are not involved, most race tracks are a concrete carpark so unless they want to be there to do something then it's a drag, like clothes shopping if you don't like shops. I found I got more enjoyment out of catering, BBQ, beers and support than the racing itself. Happy to drive a van with a trailer with tools, kit and spare bike for my friends so they can focus on which flavour of tire they like or the angle of the dangle. I don't watch the racing anymore and the best move was buying "Jetkegs" these are 22l kegs in a backpack. We have 4x beer, 2 X prosecco pre cooled for 48hrs before we go. That way they remain cold in an iced storage bin and you don't have cans but a glass. I have a sofa that comes apart and I have a tire machine and balancer.
I managed to win a Harris zx10r quick release swingarm for my 08 bike as I was the only bidder £300 for what would cost at least £1500. I just happened to be the only person looking at the time. The same with an ex Tom Sykes leo-Vinci Ti race exhaust with unused end can probably worth £2-3k same price £300. Same thing no other bidders.
That Skoda defo has a 2.5TFSI lump in it now

So on ‘claims’, what size of naughty step do you think the manufacturers should face … for deliberately trying to dodge regulations? I hear what you’re saying re. “what does it actually matter to the owner”, but if the $ impact to the brand isn’t savage they’ll simply view any consequences as a worthwhile cost of doing business … which is to say, it will have zero impact on their decision making re. regulations.

Hi Rick, I have a question for you.
I own a Mk5 Golf GTi Pirelli and am having some problems with the A/C.
I’ve had a new condenser put on due to it having a hole in. I had the car re-gassed and the machine said “LP side pressure too high”, the compressor doesn’t kick in if that helps.
Do you have any ideas on what may be the problem and how it could be fixed?

Once you have restoloved yours with an actual 600hp and youtubed the result, Nobes on sale will suddenly be worth more than GT3s and you will be elected Prez of the official fanclub. Love your work, always watch it. But some drift on the VAG emissions fraud, it’s a NOx thing and actually quite bad. Tell us about 250hp per litre and 3d printed inconel calipers instead 👍

I know your biased but budget of £30k - £35k R8 or 997 c4s.
Market value is just what someone will pay for it. If people get wind of what someone paid for a car and then they decide to wait until they can get a car for that price, then that is the market value.
Was Prime worth £15 a bottle? Not a fucking chance. But that was the market value. Now, you couldn't give it away.
The market value has tonked because interest rates are high, finance is costly, and everyone is worried about heating their house.
I disagree when buying my van fuel consumption is a big thing the more it cost to do a job hurt my bottom line just because you don’t buy like that doesn’t mean some do not and blaming the customer for lay off has nothing to do with them, mpg make a difference
Think the lotus thing was an esprit and the Tim guy from car s.o.s when he was a radio presenter and had Jodie marsh on and said on air that he would leave his wife for her if she would have him. So his wife put it on eBay with a 2 hour listing or something for a £10

Claiming damages on the diesel gate is stupid i agree. But you are missing the bigger picture about the whole deal. Manufacturers formed a cartel where they all agreed on most of the aspects for most of their products and new technologies. It's absolutely anti consumers behavior and anti competition behavior and it's illegal. They fu... over all of their customers basically with their deals between companies. Everything they did was explained by mercedes and bmw in detail because they ratted out the whole plot to cut a deal. Diesel gate is just the tip of the iceberg that was used in public to redirect attention from all the other stuff they have collectively done
Auctions are a more realistic price. That's actually what it's sold for. Autotrader is full of cars that are not selling for that price and you'll never know what they actually sell for
The writeoff on the affected diesel cars was a lot more than if the dieselgate hadn't happened. My wife wants to get rid of "her" car because of environmental reasons. Most of her friends are tree huggers that buy cars based on emissions. Just because you and I don't buy cars based on these numbers doesn't mean that "the market" doesn;t care.

just been looking at an r8 performance on copart, 2021 and its up to 50k now, non runner looks like it may be flooded, part stripped, and thats plus almost 5k in fees on top, you would have to be very very lucky or stupid to buy that surely ?????
The so called emissions scandal is absolute bollocks, as you say it affected absolutely no one, but the smell of a bit of cash and every man and is dog is booking a seat on the band wagon
Wait until Fred and Margaret have a green claim against them for not paying the extra road tax etc etc they have been compensated so now owe the money they spent on there extra holiday
Bit of a late comment but, with the people claiming money for emissions, if you actually think about it, the cars are less economical meaning they should technically be paying more tax 🤣
