I love that you show what digging in the ground in Arizona is like. Watching any home improvement show, they say "we'll just dig out a 5 foot hole with this plastic sand shovel... Easy as Pie!" I dug out my fence post holes with a crowbar and a sledge.

Here in New Zealand we use rapid set for in post holes. Put half the water in then tip full bag in and rest of water on top making sure you lift post to allow concrete underneath, plumb post and no mixing of concrete. Sets in 15 minutes.
We can have issues with our dry environment using those quick cure concretes, basically drying too quickly and forming cracks. I think NZ has a much better environment for those kinda bags. I’ve seen them in videos but a buddy of mine said they dug some up after some years and found that there were voids and issues of not fully hydrated and set Concrete..., which another guy had told him was due to our dry ground and hot environment. But who knows, might have to get them a try at least once😀👍

Motor oil is stinky and nasty soup of toxic combustion products, which probably helps as a preservative. I would consider putting a second layer of metal or wood under the roofs and inside the walls of the coop to cut down on radiant heat during the hottest days. They may provide shade from the sun, but if they are 140+ degrees it will still be uncomfortably hot under them.
It’s not a bad idea... but my location isn’t quite as hot as most AZ desert places. We are consistently 15-17 degrees less than Phoenix. So while it is hot, it’s not scorching hot at my house. As for 140 temps.... I think thr record in Phoenix is in the mid 120’s or so... but I could be wrong🤷♂️😀
@@homesteadonomics, it's not the ambient temp in worried about there. Surfaces in the sun are usually hotter than ambient. 90 degree day could see a painted natural roof that is 20 degrees hotter. 110 degree day could see that metal in the neighborhood of 140. It might be shade, but it would feel like using one of those outdoor propane radiant heaters for a sunshade. Then again, if you stand under that roof on a hot day and don't feel it, then I'm completely off my rocker.

Great to hear... and glad you found it helpful!😀👍
Very entertaining! For sure. 🥰❤️👌🏽 I love seeing her carrying the chickens.
She cares for them like they are her babies😂🥰
Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge. I'm just getting started with my process of getting chickens for the first time, about to make my order. I love your coop and will likely try to replicate a smaller version of it, since I have closer neighbors.
As always, awesome video! Love seeing your building ideas.. I hope to have a tool collection like yours one day. Also, I will never complain about digging 2 foot holes in our Michigan mud again! Yikes, that rocky ground looks brutal! Love your channel Joe! 💕
It is brutal... how I would love to have some of that fertile Michigan ground to work with!
Awsome video. I am in the process of getting chickens and building a run and hen house. I love your version. Thank you so much for sharing. I also have the solar door on order so can't wait to see your install. Have an awsome day.

I hope so🤞😀
I originally just planned to go with a hoop coop, but this set up looks SO much cleaner. I may have to consider stepping up to something like this that I can still keep portable.

Gosh you make this look so simple. I am now inspired to build my coop instead of hiring someone. :)
Здорово, когда у мужчины руки растут из правильных мест. Браво!
Enjoying the coop build, Joe. Will definitely use some of your methods when extending our run.
Thank you! And good luck on your run extension! 😀👍
