I think you need more wire on the ground for digging predators. Welded wire making a mote about 2 feet out. I think it can be flat, not buried, At least that’s what some others I’ve seen done, and what we are doing

Instead of screws and washers to secure your mesh would recommend flat bar with drilled holes in it or even aluminum with drilled holes in it it will secure a mesh Significantly better than the washers.

Beautiful. Please add AT LEAST 2 feet of hardware cloth on the ground as an apron. Tamp down with staples. What you have is NOT enough. I would connect it inside, then use giant garden staples, and hammer it into the ground. Your flock is in danger. Also, why didn't you use hardware cloth on roof before you put the pvc panels? That's thin plastic, and isn't safe. I used them, also, but on top of my secure hardware cloth. Like you, I also screw my hardware cloth, instead of staple or ziptie. I've got alcatraz going on here. Nobody's getting murdered at my house. My animals are my entire existence ❤

Great to see your videos again. Congratulations on your baby . I got a new job working at the Humane Society it's very rewarding but physically and emotionally exhausting. I also adopted a new dog from a high kill shelter saved his life.. he's adjusted very well to the pack we just started basic obedience classes as he needed socialization skills...he's a fast learner. Yes predators are awful with small birds sorry for your losses.
It's chick season at tractor supply !!!
I've had my chicken coop for 9 years.
But to save money thinking of restore it painting it .
My chickens are doing great they started laying eggs again last month.
Yesterday went to tractor supply pick up some supplies and organic chicken feed has gone up $2.00 now 28.00 and shavings gone up $2.00 now $7 ... So I am stalking up last year there was a shortage of chicken feed that I get and other supplies so I made sure I got double and triple supplies.
Your chicken coop looks wonderful keep up the great work.
    How are your ducks?
I hope the predators didn't get your ducks
I had to lock up my duck coyotes and foxes.

Love the chicken run but we always dug a 1 ft ditch around all sides and buried a piece of hardware cloth down or metal tin down in that ditch to keep anything from digging under it been recovered it back up like you did there but we had something down in the ground that a dog or coyote could not dig under

Quick chicken story time! So a while ago, when I had 6 chickens, one of the chickens was snatched by a fox. Luckily, my mom was around a chased that fox around and made it drop poor little Feathers, the chicken ended up with a pretty bad eye. But we managed to save her. Just a few weeks later, right after she recovered, she was taken by the same fox, but she never came back. Same with another of our buff orpingtons, Ruffles. Only five chickens left unfortunately. If all of them had survived, we would’ve have eight chickens😭

Do you have a material list? I might have missed it but how did Mike set the posts to account for the trim pieces up top before mounting the roof panels? I’m considering 8ft roof panels but margin of error of setting posts and accounting for the 2x6 or 1x6 up top seems like it might bump the measurements off for an 8’ roof panel or should I error on the side of smaller post set and have an overhang? Ha I don’t know what I am doing 😂

You should pick out multiple locks for both the main chicken coop door and the run door, because i didn’t have good enough locks or doors and I lost my whole flock 😢😢😢😢😢

we don’t free range either for predator reasons! we have hundreds of fox, coyotes, raccoons, hawks and minks in our area and my heart couldn’t take it for my flock to be wiped out 😭

I love free ranging but same thing:/ it’s either a run or no flock

How did he attach the 4x4 to the 2x6? Can’t decided to use some lag screws or drill a hole and use a lag bolt

    • @StephanieMoratto
      @StephanieMoratto  2 месяца назад +1

He just used 3” construction screws, but he says the lag bolting would be the way to go!

Was trying to listen for the dimensions of the run. What is the basic measurements plz? I want to guesstimate 12'×20', but not sure? The only mention i heard was mentioning extending from the original idea of 16'
