Related Channel ruclips.net/user/SeanFillnervideos We are On the Road Again, we try out the new Snow Cat and while we are on the Mountain we recover a few Chevy Trucks stuck in the snow. This little guy will fill the small gap we had with the Nodwell. These little snow cats are not really designed for Off Road Snow Recovery, but they are great little toys. We will use it for recreational fun and some recovery work. Thanks for coming along for a ride and Thanks for Watching
@Caseys Off Road Recovery I was gonna say Thiokol.. I've got it's bigger brother (the 6 cyl edition) and use it from time to time when I feel like playing in the snow
Actually that engine is a V-4 Ford. It is made by the European Ford division. The V-4 was used for years in the small Ford cars and trucks. It actually is a really good little engine. You can get a bunch of performance parts out of England and Germany.
I believe they were usually found in industrial applications in the US/Canada. We had an old White forklift with one and I think they were also in skid steers and generators ect. Parts were a pain to find in the US tho even 30 years ago, I think we horse traded it for an 50's Clark with Continental flat head 4.
Really enjoy your videos, Casey. No two of them are ever the same and it almost always involves something that most folks don't get to do. Sometimes you are working your **** off, sometimes you're just goofing around and other times you're doing things to help others. Thanks and much appreciation!
How big of a pain is it to remove the fuel tank to really do a good flush and get out all the junk once and for all. You are so right, once a person has been used to using a nylon rope its painful to go back to a chain for that type of work even if its a steady pull as any slack that develops in the chain is oh so painful.
Ya we did get the tank cleaned out real good and hopefully we won't have any further problems. The chain didn't bother me much and the rope was froze in the 4 inches of ice in the back of the truck....so..... lol
@@CaseysOffRoadRecovery Good to hear you got the tank issue sorted out, I had a lot of struggles this summer from an old truck on the farm that had dyed farm gas used in for all those years and gas evaporated out of the tank over the years leaving such a mass of the most horrible crap, it coated the inside of the fuel lines and made it into the carb and plugged up a stupid mini screen they thought was a great idea to put in just before the float valve but only able to get at it by disassembling the carb !. Thought I would mention that in case your carb has something like that inside as well. As to the soaked frozen rope, I bet pulling hard on that would cause internal damage, can't see it being too good for a rope. At least for the most part you have decent weather in Hurricane and can thaw everything out "usually" !
You have to be careful with them, but they will get the job done. You really should winch the vehicle out in deep snow so you don't tear up a track or break a rear axle. Overall they are very reliable. Thiokol has some of the most sought after cats by far. Thanks Mark
The engineblock is from a Ford v6 used in among other things European Ford Capri, they chopped of two cylinders and made a v4 and used it as an industrial engine, Saab was looking for a replacement for their two-stroke engine and found this v4
I really like the snowcat I'm quite confident that you'll figure out the few little things it needs it's going to make a great rescue and Recovery vehicle you have a lot of space in the back with the two bench seats to be able to rescue several people
Call it "Postman Cat". Not sure if Americans will get the reference. There's an old English cartoon called Postman Pat. Your cat kinda reminds me of his van. Also consider adopting a black and white cat to take on recoveries 😆.
Too much fun there! Or that just me a sour grapes? South Western Ontario hasn't had enough snow yet for me to be having any real fun with it, but I am glad you have the opportunity.
Good video Casey love the variety of recoveries you do looks like the dogs were having a good time on this one your snowcat will be a workhorse after you fix it
I'd line the inside of the snowcat with Armaflex (10mm should do the trick). That stuff is usually used to insulate boats, but I used it on my trailer and it's amazing how temperature stable that thing has become. It should also make that thing a LOT quieter. It's super easy to deploy, it comes with adhesive already in place. Just keep in mind that it's quite sensitive to physical abuse, so the ceiling and the upper walls are fine, everything you touch on a regular basis should get a cover of plywood or similar.
Back in the 80’s I worked on one the looked like yours. It had a Wisconsin 4 cylinder. The problem with that one was the pet cock on the fuel tank. It was corroded. Replaced it with hose fitting.
We love that blue healer you got she’s a jewel we had two of them they lived 16 in 15 years each wish I had another one wonderful dogs smarter than most people
Hey Casey !! Guess you'll be taking the gas tank off & Do a little cleaning ??? Great recoveries !! Thought the dogs were gona get run over when they were running between the vehicles !!! Have a good week & Have ""FUN"" in the ""SNOW ""!!
Ya we got her all cleaned up. Those dogs have all been chased by vehicles, cows, horses, mules and a Mountain Lion. They usually stay out of trouble and out of the way. You sure wouldn't want to let a city apartment dog out in a situation like this.

You sure wouldn't want to let a city apartment dog out in a situation like this. When dogs are exposed to equipment, vehicles, animals from day one they tend to stay out of the way. Most dogs would die to live a life like my dogs are living! I would much rather expose them to risk that to lock em in a kennel, apartment or a backyard.
once you put the dog house is back in it will cut down on the motor noise why put it on till you have it all dialed in and new muffler maybe . you put a smile on my face with all your vid's
Yeah buddy! I've been working on my bumpers for 3 days ...... -40 as a write this so no snowcattin for a few more days ! Hope I can get to your level views someday!!!!! 🙏
A beautiful day in the mountains!! Thanks for sharing!! The engine in the Snow Cat i compatible with with most all parts for the SAAB V4 that was used up to early 1980's. Parts are readily availble at least here in Scandinavia. Souds good, that small V4!! Best regards from Norway!
Don’t want to be a doom n gloom merchant but we never had any luck with that V4 Ford. I worked for a Ford dealer 1976/88 and there was a never ending line of vehicles with the V4 that required engine work. Cylinder head gaskets, electrical gremlins/misfires, cracked exhaust manifolds, cooling and fuelling issues but the show stopper was the camshaft drive gear, it had bonded on nylon drive teeth running on the crank metal gear, the nylon teeth would strip off the cam gear, that kinda spoils your day. Think Ford did eventually updated to a all steel cam gear. Been a Ford man all my days but sorry to say I’d have no faith in that V4. Super video, that’s some office you work in.
someone once told me "Towin's easy. Gettin towed is hard" This is an example of that. It must have been a pain in the ass holding the brakes and keeping the truck on the road WHILE going backwards.
Love the Thiokol snowcats !!! Check carburetor jets for high-altitude operation; check ignition advance...rusty distributor ?? Be careful with high speeds before you adjust the track tension. Throwing one off...a bummer. You know the drill from the Nodwell experience. Have fun !!!
Excellent recovery for the snowcapped or if you call it wezil love the content can't what to see more of the snowcat.. God bless you guys and as always be safe 👍
May need to add some sound insulation around the doghouse and floor to at least take the edge off the noise. Probably won't be anything close to quiet. Does it even have mufflers?

I have a 1969 Saab Sonnet with that same engine.
In the UK it was used in the Ford Executive. At that time in the 70s, it was a hi-end car, super plush, quiet and powerful, in its day.
The v4 was sh*t. Endless problems. The v6 "Cologne" engine was far superior.
I would find a 4bt or a kubota diesel and never look back
Stunning scenery, thank you for the ride.
Glad you enjoyed it
You have the very best videos on RUclips I can watch these all day a one-man army is what you are you got the power guy more videos please
The snow cat looks real good running through the snow. Thumbs UP !!
The little bugger gets right after it. The engine will out run the suspension!
Casey you'll work the bugs out for sure. That snow cat is fun to watch. Thanks for taking us along for the ride and stay safe.

It wouldn't matter if your Chinese, Iranian, Russian, or whatever. I appreciate that Casey follows the Golden Rule. ✌
We sure try John SS. Thanks for the Kind Words!
thats a great part of the world you get to work in Casey.thanks for entertaining us.
Casey the snow cat is a true work horse for sure. It pulled out two trucks pretty easily
Saabs used this V4 Ford Motor after they stopped using the two strokes in the sixties and early seventies. Todd the retired trucker.
Sure is pretty country with the snow 🌲🌲🌲 Thanks Casey!
I am amazed at how fast that thing can actually move !
I love Blue Heelers. Had Zach for 14 years, he saved my family from Co2 poisoning. That was 30 years ago, I will never forget him.
I meant CO poisoning

The old girl still needs a few odds and ends. That was a good test run.
Very impressed with the towing capabilities of those snowcats!! Good stuff Casey!

Beautiful Country!
We agree!
Loved the "rooster tails" coming off the tracks as you are cruising.
Gorgeous scenery with the snow ! Thanks for sharing the adventures. 🌲
The engineblock is from a Ford v6 used in among other things European Ford Capri, they chopped of two cylinders and made a v4 and used it as an industrial engine, Saab was looking for a replacement for their two-stroke engine and found this v4
Sadly, what was a reasonably well balanced v6 became a very unbalanced v4.
Your pup so much wants to add to the commentary! 😉
The Terrace is beautiful... with and WITHOUT snow...
Beautiful scenery!!
The SnowCat looks like a lot of fun and very functional at pulling people out.
That’s going to work out well ,good find.👍

Nice. Snow recovery videos are always fun.
I would call your new snow cat Garfield and put a couple black stripes on it😂😂😂😂😂
Great Idea.
Best idea yet !!!
"Snow Kitten" that Ford purrrrrrrs!
Orange crush! Orange Blossom.
Thanks for the video...name your 'cat' Rose Bud! Good as any other name...heheh
The new snow cat did a good job getting the truck out! Looks a little rough riding!
Very!
So good to see you working, so smooth and boring.
Drama is never a good thing with rescue recovery
Safety is always the top priority. Your 100 percent correct.
Always interesting and never boring!!!
I'm amazed watching that thing.

Your "fur babies" were determined to chase you! They had lots of fun! Snow cat can really go...on the snow.. woo hoo
Kind of scary watching them run alongside the tracks, one slip and that'd be all over for them.
That snowcat is an animal.
A couple chains and an old tire work well in a pinch.
