True. These 13 days of the Cuban Missile Crisis was probably one of the scariest moments in US history. No one knew what was gonna happen and the missiles could've launch at any given moment.

If a different president was elected instead on JFK on 1960, how bad of a condition would we Americans be in? What would Nixon do in a situation like this?
Nixon would have listened to Gen. LeMay and the rest of the hawks in the cabinet who wanted an air strike. They didn't understand that there aren't winners in nuclear war. Kennedy did. He used his experience in the South Pacific, and his lessons from the Bay of Pigs in this situation. His caution saved the world.
He would have probably invaded took the Joint Chiefs recommendations and cause World War 3 and you are I probably would not even be here being able to text us that's my belief
It's so sad to know that this has happened in our history. But at least I am learning about this in school. I know I didn't live to actually see this announcement, but I feel like I did! I don't like learning about war, or the civil rights movement, or things like that. But it is something I can say to my future children and grandchildren. I hope nothing this horrible could happen in this time line. God bless us all.
If you say '1000 miles' it does not sound so serious as saying '1000 nautical miles'. When the miles are nautical you know you are in it. What is the difference between an offensive and a defensive weapon?
The distinction is blurry, but I would say that a defensive weapon is one designed to counter other weapons. For example, surface-to-air missiles, anti-tank rockets, things like that. Of course, most if not all weapons can be used offensively or defensively, depending on the user's intentions.
It is just so heartwrenching how this man, is one of the big reasons that nuclear war was avoided. How did the Americans repayed him? A bullet to the head more than a year later. This man did not deserved such a horrible end. God bless him and Vasili Arkhipov
If its followed by a consonant its "Cuba," if its followed by a vowel its "Cuber," Its called an intrusive R, I have the same accent feature. I inherited it from my family despite not getting their non-rhotic accent. I tried hard to say my "er" endings, but I didn't notice that I put an "er" on words that end in an "uh" sound if they're followed by a vowel until someone pointed it out to me later in life. It works like this. "my idea was best, but your ide-er is better."
As one of Irish decent JFK would likely pronounce words that end with vowels as though they ended with an r. Scotch-Irish folks in the Appalachians do the same thing. Those of English decent have a tendency to do the opposite, they don't pronounce the r even if it is there. They will speak of Prince Chahls.
As crazy as these days can seem, we can take some solace in the fact that we truly were one or two poor choices from most of the Northern Hemisphere being uninhabitable to this day.
Deb,you are a lucky lady. This day in 1962 many Americans moved to the North in panic to avoid a nuclear strike from Cuba. What about your mjther, what did she feel on Oct 22,1962? Very interesting...
Why the hell doesn't JFK have a freaking accent. he sounds perfectly normal unlike how others have portrayed his voice like when he says Cuba he doesn't say "cewberr"?
I was 5 years old at the time, living in England. My Dad was in the RAF Bombers, the Valient. He had a shotgun, which was kept in the house at the time. As the crisis heated up he was in his Aircraft with atomic bombs in England waiting for the word to go.
Barry Slurpentine JFK>Nixon.
J. Kiessling still a shit player.
He would have probably invaded took the Joint Chiefs recommendations and cause World War 3 and you are I probably would not even be here being able to text us that's my belief
@Barry Slurpentine wow what are you smoking?
I'm hoping to use some of this speech in a short documentary I'm making. Do you know where I can access rights to it please?
People watching this on the TV must have literally crapped their pants.
Imagine if social media existed at that time. It would make shit a thousand times worse.
+Miss Kiss a lot more missiles pointed at us now than there were back then.
macdoesit is a gay queen I like learning about things of war like how the US were actually the ones to start the crisis
Wow I was born in 62 totally oblivious 2 what was going .thank God nothing happened.
Two best voice of president= Richard Nixon and John Kennedy.
George Washington and John Fitzgerald Kennedy!
Imagine living during this crisis, I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.
I'm many did not.
JFK SR President that time and speaking 🇺🇲🇺🇲😇
that's messed up man.
At least the Americans had an idea that this might happen to their country. Japan had no ideas whatsoever.
129,000-226,000 souls died in Japan.
Not the whole speech. Where can I find the rest of it?

This speech has about as much tension as 2020
History is Great
From notes. Concisely. “From evidence” do we have a politician capable of speaking in such a way today?
He was only 45 when this happened. Bobby was only 37...
What is the song/music called at the very beginning of the moive?
Seriously? "Hail to the Chief".
Jr McDonald maybe he's not American
CarePeers I'm pretty sure it's the Monty Python flying circus theme song.
+CarePeers Hail To The Chief.
Thank you
John f kennedy stood up to the Russians no matter what the outcome would be
It is just so heartwrenching how this man, is one of the big reasons that nuclear war was avoided. How did the Americans repayed him? A bullet to the head more than a year later. This man did not deserved such a horrible end. God bless him and Vasili Arkhipov
1962 thats what it means.
God dang Kennedy was an amazing man, he had such a rough presidency though.
This, tank stand down, Berlin Wall, and American Populous.
At 5:07 he says "Coo-ber", then later pronounces it 'Cuba'.
Graceful_Meadow Sparrow he did that alot its his accent
do you have any idea how big both stock piles are
This is the footage that is always use in movies like X Men and Dear Eleanor
why cant I access this, any of them? july/2014?
We seem to have learned nothing.
Mad Men brought me here.
My father was still in the balls of my grandfather when this happened
I was really born 10/23 before 9am.
Wouldn't it be something if Trump had 2% of the Leadership Ability of the Outstanding President & Leader, loved & respected around the world!
the generals wanted to use force...can you imagine when that force gets met with force, what wouldve happened? i probably wouldn't be here right now
Kennedy should have provided air support for his invasion of Cuba in 1961.
@@markharrison2544 why invade Cuba at all? to put back the Casinos and put a puppet dictator?
Why the hell doesn't JFK have a freaking accent. he sounds perfectly normal unlike how others have portrayed his voice like when he says Cuba he doesn't say "cewberr"?
JpGeisha oh yeah he does
John F. Kennedy speech after dragovich's defeat : thanks for professor x helping me to save America
I was 5 years old at the time, living in England. My Dad was in the RAF Bombers, the Valient. He had a shotgun, which was kept in the house at the time. As the crisis heated up he was in his Aircraft with atomic bombs in England waiting for the word to go. He told my Mum if she hears the Squadron take off, we lived near the base, she was to shoot me and my Sister, then herself.
blyat. its sad
suka its scary. really.
Back when presidents wrote their own speeches and didn't read them for the first time as they were reading them live
Why did the US act surprised? They placed the same kind of missiles in Turkey, first.
And today we struggle with covid 19 . Our problem never ends 🙄
