Eddie, you seem to have suffered a lot on your own. Having to hide such an important part of you must be difficult. Society will always try to shape people and make them fit a certain profile. Being different is okay Being gay is okay. I'm glad you are doing what makes you happy. Be strong and I hope all your effort is rewarded soon.

❤️ Hey all you beautiful people in the comments❗❗❤️Just a reminder that we can help our amazing teacher Eddie by watching his playlists often so he'll reach the watch time requirement faster and so he can start earning money from all his hard work. Even when you are not in the mood to learn Chinese, maybe keep his playlist on in the background? It's a win win for all of us.

Eddie, what an honest and beautiful video. Don’t let this whole situation with your mom get to you. I went through it too. I had to leave my country, it was really tough at first, but I worked hard for two years, got a good job, made some money and now everything has changed. Like you said, independence is the solution. I’m sure you’ll get there too. Keep working hard, do your thing. What you do is great and has real value. I’m absolutely sure you’ll succeed. You’re such a great and lovely guy! Keep it up and of course you have my support! :)) 加油💪🏻

Never be sorry for being emotional and thank you for this honest video about yourself! It's really sad that we have to go through all this. I'm 25 and bisexual and have yet to come out to my family. If it's hard for me even though I live in Spain, I can't even imagine how you feel being gay in a country like China. In Spain people are more open-minded and I know that my family will just accept me and still love me if I tell them, but it scares me regardless. Sometimes I'm just like "If I get a boyfriend, telling my family that I also like girls won't be necessary!" and then I get angry with myself for thinking like that, because I really don't want to hide who I am. Also, in the case I get a boyfriend, I'm kind of afraid of telling him that I like girls too... Whatever, sorry for the ramble.
What can I say, stay strong and keep on fighting, you look like a really nice guy! I hope you can find someone who loves you and makes you happy and hope your mother accepts you as you are in the future. Here I send you a virtual hug!

I'm so late to the party for finding this but it really touched me. Were the same age and how I grew up in England as a Gay man is so radically different from your experience, it was honestly a difficult thought process for me to comprehend.. But its also a story I needed to hear because getting a story like this out to the public IS a niche in itself. Just reading some of the other comments here shows how me how many people value and appreciate your work. So no matter how it might feel at times, you do in fact have hundreds of friends right here. 老师,加油!

You are a wonderful human being, so what if you are gay.... being gay is not a choice, it’s who you are. In time your Mom will realize this. You have a lot to offer any young man. Hi Eddie.. im in the same position as yours.. im 22. im the only gay son of my parents., i haven't said to anyone regarding my sexuality.. i have never been in a relationship.
My family situation is not good.
My father always focuses on his business., he is just after money . He cares for the family by just earning but there is no emotional bond between us.
My mother has gone through a lot because of my father and their relatives. She is my strength from childhood and i want to be her strength here on. She always takes marriage topic for my future. I know She wants me to be happy by marrying a girl and having children. But
I just dont want to disappoint her by telling im gay. And also i cant lie to myself and cheat on the girl.
I just can't leave my mother alone and live a selfish life.
I always wished that if i had a brother then atleast my pain would have reduced by half.. so that atleast one of us could live a NORMAL LIFE and take care of my mother.
Anxiety depression stress are always with me. I cry when I'm alone.
Once i reach 26-28 i dont know how i would handle this marriage topic.

Ti abbraccio forte! 😘😬🙏❤💛

Hello I'm from Brazil and I'm learning Chinese. I am also gay. even though in Brazil things are much "easier" for us, my parents are very Cristian religious and they seriously think I have a demon living inside of me and that I'm going to hell. Sounds stupid to me but they really believe that and this makes them suffer and I see in their eyes how bad they feel about this. They were always so nice to me and seeing them suffer many times made me suffer too. But I learned to accept myself and to accept the things I can not change. I am sure your mother loves you and she'll be happy if she sees that you're happy. You need to think about yourself too and your happiness is also important. Your mother is a very brave woman for kicking out that man of her life, maybe she just wants to protect you from the things she knows you're going to face on going against what society expects from you. But trust me, she already knows that you're gay. All mothers do. At least she's suspicious about it. And she didn't die. She can handle this. Think about you and your happiness now. And you're not old! I never met a gay man married before 30. You look super cute, anyone would love the be with you. Always tell your mother how much you love and admire her but don't feel sad about who you are. You can come teach Chinese here, you would easily find a job (and a super fly Latin boyfriend). But it's just a suggestion. There are a billion things you can do with your life. Start thinking about this and forget what your mom feels for a while. She'll be happy when she sees you're happy. ❤️

You are not alone and there is always this community wherever you go.

Thank you for your powerful, honest, and moving reflections about the obstacles you have been striving to overcome in your life. I came out to my mother when I was sixteen (1980) and she finally accepted that my sexuality wasn't a "stage" in the parlance of the day, after a psychologist she sent me( a few years later) to see convinced her that the best thing was to accept me for who I am. Later on, she was even happy that she had a gay son as we lived together and were best friends. I had an elder brother and sister who had children, so I understand that there wasn't the pressure to produce grandchildren and heirs that you have, but I believed from a young age that the world was facing a population crisis, so I've never felt guilty about not having children. I am just starting to watch your videos, and from what I've seen I can tell that you are an excellent (and very amusing) teacher! I teach chess myself and have an arts degree with honours in English. I'm very surprised that you don't have more subscribers, but I'm sure your numbers will grow, and you'll achieve your dreams! Sending loving thoughts and prayers from Melbourne, Australia.

Dear, ... I came to your channel by accident. I listened to your testimony and your life carefully and with great interest. Your way of speaking and your way of expressing yourself are extremely touching ... there was a moment that I cried with you. From what I understand, the situation in China regarding the 'gay' theme is not the best. They still define people who have a preference for same-sex partners 'disgusting' ... this saddens me deeply. I hope China will one day, not very far away, accept and understand that every person is first and foremost a human being endowed with different feelings, thoughts and preferences. I don't like to define people with a label, what I mean is simply: "Everyone likes what they like." This must be the one and only normality in everyone's life. Being 'gay' changes who you are? I don't believe that at all. You are YOU. And like you, many others in your country experience the same discomfort ... as if it were a shame. But it is not at all. China must one day open its mindset, but I firmly believe that it must be the young people of your country who 'fight' for what is a right for everyone: 'to be themselves and not what society wants'. You have my support, sorry for my bad English. From a friend, love from Italy :)

Not like in China surely, here they have always been accepted even if they didn't have the rights recognized only a few years ago. But they have always been present without shame under the eyes of everyone, from TV to ordinary people. For their rights they "fought" peacefully but perseveringly to be accepted in all respects. What I'd like to ask you is: You guys, all together, couldn't you do anything about your situation? I ask why I don't know how far you could go. Anyway, I'm glad to hear you say you're okay now. Remember: Don't let people change who you are, who you are makes you unique and special. I wish you the best in your life.

Afortunately, my mother accepts me as I am, but my father wouldn't support a bisexual son on his family. I know it is a personal story and I appreciate that you wanted to share it to us, it makes you even braver. I am quite sure that this video will help a lot of people who are in a similar situation. I really admire your authenticity , your bravery to come out out the closet. I think it's because of society and especially traditional Chinese family. I'm the third generation of 华侨 in Thailand. Although it seems open in the society but it's also depending on each family as well. It was difficult to break it opens and I felt like I didn't belong in the family. My big sister was a lesbian but my family seems doesn't care much. Anyway, it took me up until junior year at the uni that I was brave enough to reveal my true identity to my mom. Luckily for me, she was supportive though dad wasn't, but it was quite okay enough to have a person who understood me and I didn't have to hide anymore.
I think after you reveal your identity, there will be a lot gay people who supports you, including me. I plan to learn Chinese many times as well as English ,but I reached plateau.
You know after I watched a couple of your videos , I think you're charming ,smart and very hardworking person. I bet if you target to niche audiences like gay community or women preferences. There would definitely be room for you. I admire your English and want to know how to remove your accent and maybe if you could share tips, I would be so grateful.

YT suggested this video to me. I am gay and old. Let me tell you it wasn't so easy for us 50 years ago. In the 1980s the public would spit at us on gay pride demos. In the 1990s in London my colleagues told me "if you let the boss find out you are gay, he will k1ll you, he owns a gun and he says gays should be k1lled". Well I was the star employee so I told the boss, he nearly collapsed (I look like a thug noone ever guesses I am gay) - but by the time I left that job 25% of his employees were openly gay. As a teenager my sister said "don't tell mum, she thinks gays should be killed". I came out to my parents at 18yo, and I am my mother's favourite to this day.
Things might look bleak, but your mother might surprise you if you give her the chance. We gays are rare (1% of people). Our difference isn't obvious, and in making people aware of it they end up thinking of sex that they don't want to think about. Gay men and women even make babies without physical contact, so you can be gay and make your mother a grandmother.
Your English is amazing. I am married to a thai man who has lived among English speakers for 20 years and he speaks very faulty English. I wish you every success.

As for scars, insecurity etc please understand this: the man who loves you will also love your scar. I don't mean that in a kinky way. I mean the scar will not matter to him. The man I loved most in my life had a face covered in acne scars. I never even saw them, only he was concerned about them. He was beautiful to me, he was shy in public (which I like) but in private was very funny and kind. I realise this is an old video, I hope you are much happier now.

I strongly believe that brave and beautiful gestures like yours are of capital importance in spreading awareness and helping people be more understanding, respectful, loving.
You say that individual power can't overcome society's prejudices and issues, and to some extent I agree. But you're not alone. There are lots of people hoping for a better world where nobody has to give explanations about the way they live and love. A world in which we all understand that it's natural to have feelings (love, sexual desire or whatever) to any human being of our choice, because love is natural, love is genderless, love is LOVE.

You are very brave and honest sharing your life experience with so many people. Being straight itself is difficult, society pressurises you in many ways and I can't imagine how LGBT people cope up with the social pressure. Earlier I used to be afraid of gay people to be honest. And until around 10 years back in my little head, gay meant transgender and I didn't even know about lesbian or gay or bisexual. I am Nepalese and in Nepal while growing up I had never seen a LGBT person. Maybe even if there were people like that they wouldn't have opened up. When I went to Bangalore, India for studies there I saw few transgender people on the street. And because of their unusual appearance I used to get scared. Once, while me and my friend were walking on the road one trans person approached us and I was afraid she was coming to us to ask for money but she wasn't. She just wanted to have conversation with us. Her English was probably way better than our English. She was extremely nice and spoke to us like any other person of her age would. Then I realized that they just look different and behave differently sometimes and it's completely okay. We are all alike. And I became more open minded. Then I started watching videos to educate myself about their stories. Now after seeing all that I feel that people who are LGBT don't get to live normal life in most of the places and are not accepted by the society. I can't imagine how it feels like to be in their shoes. But I am glad that more people like you open up about their sexual orientation and feel comfortable with themselves, more people who are not aware or educated about all this will understand and eventually accept. I am really sorry if I have said anything to hurt anyone. I didn't mean it I just wanted to share how my perception changed and I try talking to my friends about all this and even my parents who are very very orthodox and think that it's a sin to be LGBT. I try to show some videos to them to make them understand that it wasn't a choice for them it's how they are. They didn't choose to be LGBT and we need to be more acceptable and think if we had a child who was like that or siblings or even ourselves, how it would be if we were treated differently and were pressured to always hide to be what we are. I am sure things will be much better over few years. Thank you very much sharing all this ❤️ I only hope that we all thrive to be better person each day and be acceptable to all kinds of people irrespective of race, color religion, ethnicity and as well as sexual orientation. No one chose to be a particular kind we were born certain way and we can't change that.

You should be very proud of your accomplishments. I understand how you feel. When I visited China with my American friends, the Chinese people treated us like we were kings and queens. However, when I visited China on my own, they treated me differently. I told them I was from America, but they didn't believe me. I even got a ticket for jay walking in Guizhou. Furthermore, you are absolutely correct that the Chinese people value foreigners (Caucasians) more than any other races. It is sad but the truth.

You can have a child if you want when you have a boyfriend, there are surrogacy mother's it's an option ❣️ Sending love and energy ! I'm planning to move to China, and I guess I won't have a partner when I'm there and I think the following year I'll move to Taiwan because there I know you are freer to find LGBTQ community and I could live my love life more freely. It is horrible having to hide yourself.

I've just found this video, thank you for sharing your story. Is heart breaking to hear how homosexuality is not accepted in China. I'm so sorry. Here ( in Italy) people like us have more support. You are an example of determination, hard work and a good friend and son. Thanks for your courage and your determination. Also thank you for your channel, I wanna learn chinese linguage, I'm just a beginner but I think you'll help me. (sorry for my english) I hope you are happy now, I hope you'll find your way to be yourself. Thank you again :)
