- China's gay shock therapy: It's over 15 years since the Chinese Psychiatric Association stopped classifying homosexuality as a mental illness yet some hospitals in China continue to claim they can 'cure' gay people. There's no scientific basis for their claims yet they offer procedures that even include painful electric shock treatment.
Shaunaugh Connaire went to Beijing to meet the activists working to expose what's happening in these hospitals.

the "racist" card is used too haphazardly; it is deologically driven and devoid of logic.
1. Which dialect requires a subtitle is subjective to personal experience and target audience. (eg. I need subtitles for Scottish English but not for Indian English. This is merely because I've had greater exposure to Indian English).
2. Bias towards ethnic prosody is not equivalent to bias against "race." [ps. there is no such thing as the Chinese race. There is the Han ethnicity but China is extremely diverse in ancestry]
3. The inconsistency of subtitles could be due to chance. Did you run the statistics for it? If you are just basing on your emotions and comparing 2-3 videos from your memory, your claim carries no weight.

It’s because he speaks very “American” English. The subtitles are technically “British English.” Notice the use of the word “Mum” instead of Mom while he was speaking about his coming out.
Attention: it is not racist or rude just to use subtitles over someone. Some people are hearing impaired and struggle even more to listen to a person who may have a slight bit of an accent. It's nothing to get angry about.

And again, one country's wrongdoing doesn't justify another's.

I found the most sickening part of this to be the part where the nurse or senior whoever started explaining how electroshocking "worked". It's sickening because she was right. She knows exactly how it "works" which is conditioning the mind. It is not a "theraphy" that converts people. It's constantly associating a specific thing, in this case, attraction towards the same sex to a negative thing such as pain or an uncomfortable surrounding temperature. It's like how kids with abusive guardians are conditioned to be afraid of said parents

The subtitle helped me greatly anyway. Had a head injury as a kid that makes most accents sound like gibberish. Sooooo greatful for them.
People are just plain problematic, giving subtitles can even lead to racist? Its just an additional help for hearing or understanding it even better or clearer. So, if the movies give free entitlement, also become an issue is just laugable, why not count as a blessing to have it? Moreover, this youtube is all about LGBT movement and not about some focus discussion about racist or even about language. Anyway, subject can speak English and his accent is ok too but there is still alot of things like tenses to look into it. Think also because it was taken in such background showing the secret pictures footage taken with chinese speaking.

People are not as experienced with the Chinese accent as the accent the woman was speaking, which is probably why they put subtitles. His accent was flawless though.

I am a lesbian living with my Chinese girlfriend in Wuhan (which everyone knows by know). She cam out to her family like 8 years ago before I even knew her, and during this year’s spring festival i went back home with her. Her mom really likes me and generally most people under the age of 30 are really open-minded about homosexuality. To be honest I think it is kind of a „Nobody cares-policy“. We never got any comments on the street holding hands. However, a lot of parents and the older generation cannot accept homosexuality, especially when it comes to their own children. As long as society does not fully accept and tolerate homosexuality there will be therapy against it.
