That's pretty cool. Amazing that mere mortals can afford fibre lasers these days. When I started lasering a fibre laser was $5,000 for the lowest powered one with just a tiny working area.

When I first started wanting one they were $8000 Then 3 years later now they are $2000-$4000 and faster. They have made big advancement in the last few years and really got the cost down

@@ALXSHARPEN I wonder if the can remove rust too. I have three rusty Japanese knives on the bench this morning. I'm loathe to sand them or use harsh chemicals. I did buy some of those dental abrasive wheels you recommend but I bought the cheapest and smallest and they just fly apart very quickly as I touch them to any knife. I'd love a dedicated machine like you have with the larger wheels.

Excellent job Paul!! Did you also use 300 lines /cm 30 hz for the paint removal? I see you ran a test pattern on a knife using power range 10-50%. Have you settled on a typical speed for engraving knives or did you find that you will vary it depending on the achieved color? I have the F1U and am just trying to gain some insight for engraving on typical kitchen knives.

For SVG files I like 300 LPC 50 power and 50 Speed 30 HRZ if the knife is acid washed or has a paint coating I bump up to 65 on the power. For non svg PNG Jpg I have had good success with Jarvis mode, 200-DOT, Power-100, DPI 1000, Freq 30

    Can the Laser remove Ceracoat?

I believe it could but have not had the opportunity to try it since I have nothing that's Ceracoated to test it on but I doubt that it's strong enough to resist the laser since it can cut metal I suspect it could remove it.

Can you sharpen the blade or form a sharp point with this laser? Or is the aliasing too wide?

I don't know anything about sharpening a blade with a laser but would say no the heat would not be good for it You can cut steel to make knives with lasers or High pressure water this 20 watt could never do it it can only cut very thin metal

Black painted knives always look so bad over time. Nice refurbishment!

It's amazing what a laser can do.
