MJ looked different this season. He hardly dunked. Hardly even drove the lane! It was all fadeaways. And for me personally, this was the first season I started noticing on breakaways he would just do a basic 'right handed, off-the-left-foot' dunk.. even stopped bothering with the Leaner. It's funny, it's not that he couldn't do it - cos he brought all the dunks back in the 95-96 season (leaners, reverses, double pumps etc) - its just that in the 92-93 season MJ was noticeably tired and (dare I say it?) unexcited! Can't blame him - the previous season was gruelling, the postseason was long and demanding (thank you Knicks!), plus he played in the summer at the Olympics. It really wasnt a surprise that he retired after this season cos he really had achieved everything there was to achieve - and the man was just exhausted!
Anyway the point I was gonna make was: this game had one of his few facial dunks of the season (I can't even think of any others - were there any others??) and a rare display of excitement afterwards.
Apart from that, it was All-Business-MJ. Wasn't until the 95-96 season that he looked like he was having fun again.

Which superstars of today would take a charge from Larry Johnson like that? Nobody, Jordan was the best at everything and wasn't afraid to do the dirty work that most superstars shy away from.
Steph's dad was a great shooter, just as he is now.
I was a teenager during the Bulls dynasty of the 90's and I thought the Jordan era was going to last forever, looking back now at how basketball is today it makes me appreciate what I was able to witness so much more and really miss the greatness of those days.

And you're right in the sense that today's game is so much easier to score in because of today's rules which create a no defense environment - it's why we have so many threes today and little else. And what makes you think he couldn't pass? You obviously never watched MJ and are too young to know anything about him. Reality, MJ made passes constantly which is what the triangle offense is about. He had the second largest hands in NBA history which allowed to make passes LBJ or any other player today, except Kawhi, could only dream of making - didn't know that did you? Obviously not?
Why do kids like you resent MJ so much? He is the GOAT for a reason - he was incredible not only in terms of his game but his mentality and fire and hunger - something lacking in today's game because every scrub makes so much money today. How does the reality of his greatness threaten you? I'm being serious because I just don't understand why or how a person could have such ignorant ideas and malice towards somebody that you know nothing about - I'm assuming it's because you're an LBJ fan and you hate the fact that LBJ is simply not as good and hasn't performed in the Finals with consistency. Again though - how does that affect you where you spout such vitriol and ignorance when you obviously don't know anything about MJ's game. To say he didn't pass is indicative of the nonsense suggestions made by ESPN in order to pump up LBJ - MJ played shooting guard and his job wasn't to pass but he did so anyway and did it incredibly well. As a shooting guard, he averaged only two less assists per game than LBJ who plays point forward - that's LBJ's job as the guy who controls every possession - not MJ who was almost as productive in terms of passing when it wasn't his job - so why again the hate and how is he unable to pass as you suggest?

Big difference between Jordan and Lebron: He had two fastbreaks with only Mugsy back and didn't even think about dunking on him. But against Mourning, now that was a challenge that he would take. Lebron would've dunked on Bogues and stared him down. Just like he did against Jason Terry and John Lucas III. What a big man you are.

After baseball his legs never regained that quickness but he was still a stellar athlete until the end with the Wizards
exactly, baseball ruined his legs and quickness and hops. He was never the same. We actually missed out on how greater MJ could have been if he hadn't retired and gone to baseball
@@rayleigh8 after the 1st 3peat, he was physically & mentally beat, he had to step away for awhile & rejuvenate himself... it was very necessary.
After baseball he was older. But I think he did regain all that. He still lead the league in scoring, and was still reverse dunking.

It’s funny how the perception of Larry Bird is of this awesome shooter ( and he was) but not how Jordan was a marksman himself.
I'm 16 so I've never watched a game from this period but I gotta say I am amazed at how well Jordan played. I know that people always call him the GOAT (greatest of all time) but until now I didn't truly understand what that meant. Of course, I haven't seen all the other greats but this was fantastic. Oh and btw, Curry can SHOOT!

Dell curry was pretty scary too. If he had steph's handles I bet he could have put up just as much points, maybe even more. He was more versatile with his shot in that he was able to do fade-aways on the post up, and he was stronger id say.
Nah - the handle didn't do much years ago. No room to move, no carries allowed and defenders put both hands or forearm with physical resistance on you. It's why the streetball handle had practically no role in the game in the past - many had it but could only use it in certain rare instances. Doing what Steph or Kyrie do today simply wasn't possible.
Dell Curry is a perfect example of how being a great shooter was simply not enough back then. He was a weaker defender which hurt him and that was a big deal before.Todays rules allow for weaker defenders to be masked in zones - yesterday it was very different. And you just don't shoot as productively when you can't drive the basket consistently which is what yesterday's game was like.
100%! That is the absolute key to Stephen's game, and he became MVP when he finally learned how to finish going to the paint.
@@boogieloo1831 agreed totally. A lot of the “new” moves by current NBA players like Kyrie and Harden were pure walks and carries in the old NBA days and even today’s FIBA. NBA has to relax the rules to make it more entertaining because there is no more Jordan -like superstars who can thrive in the original basketball rules.
@@boogieloo1831 @soj. h , there were carries and travels allowed during Jordan's days too. You see it in the highlights, even in this video. However, they grew up with it not being allowed, so it happened less frequently when they were in the NBA.
For example, 1:14 (3rd dribble after the rebound - left hand) is a carry. 5:37 (2nd dribble with left hand) is a carry with his hand being completely under the ball and the refs in clear view. At 5:48, (Jordan's 2nd dribble with left hand) is a carry with the ref staring at him.
That last dunk was hilarious because it seemed like he was being a smartass by imitating the way 'Zo and LJ would always yell after they dunked...lol!

So interesting watching the contrasting styles of then and now. You see a lot more dribbling in today's game and a lot more guys like Harden and Curry doing more dribbling to get their shot off. Then, it was catch, make a move and get to the hole.

anyway great upload and description. you are right he was all buniness that year. he also seemed slightly slower that season too, with a lot more fadeaway and mid range shots.
i think somehow his moves in the 94-95( some of them reminds me of the pre-93 mj) season was a little more spectacular than the 95-96, even he was a lot more consistent in the latter one.

@popeyeisgood I agree. Even though he was erratic and not quite himself in 1995 at age 32, he was more like his pre retirement self. In 1995-96 onwards he was less about the dunk and more about his jumper.

Those two teams were the gen x coming of age teams. Orlando was probably the other one at the time. Great teams but 0 titles. What happened happened though.

***** MJ was playing with a severely injured wrist for most of this season, that's why he had the black wrap on his wrist. Also MJ & Scottie were coming off the Dream Team which took up most of their summer off. They went from the 92 Finals straight to the Dream Team and then the 92/93 season quickly began. MJ was drained & hurt most of the year and didn't play like himself, which was still better than anyone else in the league but he wasn't the MJ the NBA had seen the past 8 years.

This may have been the weakest team of the 1st three-peat Bulls. Paxson and Cartwright were on the down slide or finished. King and McCray were useless. Hodges, Hansen, and Levingston were gone. MJ had to play major mins. in '92-'93 after a grueling '91-'92 season, where everyone was gunning for the Champs, and the summer Olympics.
