I disagree with listing The Prince in this list. I did not agree with him in every regard, but he did make good points when discussing the conduct of the ruler as a ruler of the state. 1) Do not give free money. It makes the people dependent and you eventually run out. Then you must cut back and the people rebel. 2) Keep you fingers to yourself. Do not touch people's women, their money, or their property. You need taxes, but keep them at a reasonable rate so that you do not provoke a revolution. 3) State secrets are a good thing. 4) Beware standing armies, mercenaries, forts, a lack of forts, and an armed population. Some forts and an armed population is best. 5) Being loved is good, provided you are respected. Being respected is the best option if you need to choose between respect and love. Avoid being hated as hatred will lead to bad things. 6) Practice sound financial planning so you are not destabilizing your economy by inflation of deflation. 7) Stay out of any unnecessary conflict. War is bad for business.
He was attempting to write a book about good governance not private moral virtue. For this reason I disagree that it belongs on this list.

I had a similar thought as I work in the field of international relations and of course realist doctrine primarily pushed by Machiavelli's work is my primary theory of understanding. One shouldn't read it as a book of personal morality, but one on governance in an imperfect world. That was the main point, one of which aligns (in my view) with Biblical teaching. Glad to see someone go into good detail as this was one of the only books on this list to disappoint me greatly.

I would have also included "The Fourth Political Theory" by Alexander Dugin, Vladimir Putin's former advisor. Any of Dugin's books promotes the idea that The Eurasian Empire (Russia) are the good guys and "Atlantis" (the US) is the devil. Under the deceitful guise of defending "conservatism," Dugin argues that free societies (ex. US in particular) are the root cause of all the decadence going on around the world...and that the only way to return to traditional values is to go back to despotism. The reason why Dugin's works are dangerous is because he is trying to manipulate conservatives all over the world into thinking that God is on Russia's side, that Russia is a Christian nation, and promotes traditional values. But in fact, this is far from the truth. Dugin comes from a background of occultism, esotericism, nazism, and communism. Russia has unrestricted abortion, and continues to use their security services to assassinate their own people...even outside of their borders.
Another book I would have included is "Catechism of a Revolutionary" by Sergey Nechayev. That book and man would later influence Vladimir Lenin's political ideology.
It should also be noted that Hitler wasn't just influenced by Darwin, but secretly, despite seeing communism as his rival opponent, nonetheless had a great respect for Karl Marx's socialist ideas. He just didn't like the idea of a international socialist world, but a National Socialist utopia. Meaning, he believed that one race should benefit from a socialist society, but everyone else would be destroyed. If you look at the majority of these evil books that Todd talks about, it comes down to one thing: collectivism. All of these books promote the idea that individualism is evil, but collectivism is for the greater good.
I was surprised that Todd mentioned Niccolò Machiavelli's "The Prince" because Brazilian political philosopher Olavo de Carvalho just recently wrote a book warning about the dangers of Machiavelli called "Machiavelli or the Demonic Confusion."
Todd, you should do a top ten dystopian books every Christian should read video.

Machiavelli gets unfair treatment. He was not an advocate for what he was describing, he was being descriptive not prescriptive. Anyone who has read The Prince knows that in the preface Nicollo made it clear he wasn't endorsing the modality of rule which he described.

When holy men of God write or speak by the power of the Holy Ghost, their words “shall be scripture, shall be the will of the Lord, shall be the mind of the Lord, shall be the word of the Lord, shall be the voice of the Lord, and the power of God unto salvation” (Doctrine and Covenants 68:4). The official, canonized scriptures of the Church, often called the standard works, are the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price.
The principal purpose of scriptures is to testify of Christ and to guide the children of God so they can come unto Him and receive eternal life (see John 5:39; 20:31; 1 Nephi 6:4; Mosiah 13:33-35). The Book of Mormon prophet Mormon taught:
“Whosoever will may lay hold upon the word of God, which is quick and powerful, which shall divide asunder all the cunning and the snares and the wiles of the devil, and lead the man of Christ in a strait and narrow course across that everlasting gulf of misery which is prepared to engulf the wicked-
“And land their souls, yea, their immortal souls, at the right hand of God in the kingdom of heaven, to sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and with Jacob, and with all our holy fathers, to go no more out” (Helaman 3:29-30).
God, who is the same “yesterday, today, and forever” (2 Nephi 29:9), continues to reveal scripture in modern times as He did in ancient times. Latter-day prophets counsel people everywhere to study the scriptures daily, including the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price. They encourage individual and family scripture study. They encourage us, as Nephi encouraged his brethren, to liken the scriptures to ourselves, finding ways that the sacred accounts of old apply in our lives today (see 1 Nephi 19:23-24). They exhort us to “search the scriptures” (John 5:39) and “feast upon the words of Christ” (2 Nephi 32:3). Daily, meaningful scripture study helps individuals be receptive to the guidance of the Holy Ghost. It builds faith, fortifies against temptation, enlightens, and helps individuals draw near to our Heavenly Father and His Beloved Son.

      The Bible
The Bible is divided into two parts: the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament is a sacred record of God’s dealings with His covenant people in the Holy Land. It includes the teachings of such prophets as Moses, Joshua, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Daniel. The New Testament records the birth, mortal ministry, and Atonement of the Savior. It concludes with the ministry of the Savior’s disciples.
Because the Bible has been translated many times, it is printed in different versions. In English, the King James Version of the Bible is accepted as scripture by the Church.
In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we revere the Bible and its sacred teachings. We can receive strength, comfort, and guidance from the biblical accounts of God’s dealings with His people.

The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ
The Book of Mormon came forth in this dispensation by the will of the Lord. It is a record of God’s dealings with the people who lived in the ancient Americas. Prophets of the Lord engraved the original records on gold plates. The Lord declared that the Book of Mormon contains “the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ” (Doctrine and Covenants 20:9; see also Doctrine and Covenants 42:12).
On September 22, 1827, an angel named Moroni-the last Book of Mormon prophet-delivered these records to the Prophet Joseph Smith. By the gift and power of God, the Prophet Joseph translated the record into English. Since then, the Book of Mormon has been translated into many other languages.
The primary purpose of the Book of Mormon is to convince all people “that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations” (title page of the Book of Mormon). It teaches that all people “must come unto him, or they cannot be saved” (1 Nephi 13:40). Joseph Smith said that the Book of Mormon is “the keystone of our religion, and a man [will] get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book” (introduction to the Book of Mormon).
The Book of Mormon is another witness for the truths taught in the Bible. It also restores “plain and precious” truths that have been lost from the Bible through errors in translation or “taken away” in attempts to “pervert the right ways of the Lord” (see 1 Nephi 13:24-27, 38-41). The Bible and the Book of Mormon “shall grow together, unto the confounding of false doctrines and laying down of contentions, and establishing peace” (2 Nephi 3:12).
Near the end of the Book of Mormon, the prophet Moroni teaches us how we can know the book is true: “When ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost” (Moroni 10:4; see also Moroni 10:3 and Moroni 10:5).

      The Doctrine and Covenants
The Doctrine and Covenants contains revelations given to the Prophet Joseph Smith. It also includes a few revelations given to other latter-day prophets following Joseph Smith. This book of scripture is unique because it is not a translation of ancient documents. It is a collection of revelations given by the Lord to His chosen prophets in the latter days.
The Prophet Joseph Smith said that the Doctrine and Covenants is “the foundation of the Church in these last days, and a benefit to the world, showing that the keys of the mysteries of the kingdom of our Savior are again entrusted to man” (section heading for Doctrine and Covenants 70).

      The Pearl of Great Price
The Pearl of Great Price contains the book of Moses, the book of Abraham, the Prophet Joseph Smith’s inspired translation of Matthew chapter 24, and some writings of the Prophet Joseph.
The book of Moses is a small excerpt from Joseph Smith’s inspired translation of the Bible. It is a more complete record of Moses’s writings at the beginning of the book of Genesis in the Old Testament. It contains many doctrines and teachings that were lost from the Bible and gives additional information about the plan of salvation, the creation of the earth, and the Lord’s dealings with Adam and Enoch.
The book of Abraham is a translation of ancient records written on papyrus that came into the possession of the Church in 1835. The Prophet Joseph Smith translated the records by revelation. This book contains truths about the premortal Council in Heaven, the creation of the earth, the nature of God, and the priesthood.
Joseph Smith-Matthew is an excerpt (Matthew 24) from Joseph Smith’s inspired revision of the Bible and adds to our knowledge of the Savior’s teachings about His Second Coming.
The writings of Joseph Smith in the Pearl of Great Price include:
Joseph Smith-History, which is an excerpt from the Prophet’s history of the Church. It is a narrative of the events leading to the restoration of the Church, including the First Vision, the visits of Moroni to the Prophet Joseph, the obtaining of the gold plates, and the restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood.
The Articles of Faith, which the Prophet Joseph Smith wrote as basic statements of belief and doctrine.

As the Bible was compiled, organized, translated, and transcribed, many errors entered the text. The existence of such errors becomes apparent when one considers the numerous and often conflicting translations of the Bible in existence today. Careful students of the Bible are often puzzled by apparent contradictions and omissions. Many people have also been curious about references by biblical prophets to books or scriptural passages that are not currently in the Bible. Latter-day Saints believe in an open scriptural canon, which means that there are other books of scripture besides the Bible (such as the Book of Mormon) and that God continues to reveal His word through living prophets. The argument is often made that to be a Christian means to assent to the principle of sola scriptura, or the self-sufficiency of the Bible. But to claim that the Bible is the final word of God-more specifically, the final written word of God-is to claim more for the Bible than it claims for itself. Nowhere does the Bible proclaim that all revelations from God would be gathered into a single volume to be forever closed and that no further scriptural revelation could be received. The Bible is not God’s final revelation to humanity, however, and neither is this collection of sacred writings complete. The Bible itself speaks of other authoritative books of scripture including books of Jasher, Nathan the prophet and of Jehu and Enoch, the prophecy of Ahijah, the visions of Iddo the seer, and even missing epistles of Paul (see 2 Chronicles 9:29; 13:22; 20:34; 1 Corinthians 5:9; Jude 1:14).

Nobody ever used "The Prince" as some kind of Evil Genius How-To book. Machiavelli was simply pointing out certain historic trends that led to and reflected the current political situation in first-decades sixteenth century Northern Italy: mid-sized and tiny polities ruled de facto by oligarchic families although technically belonging to another polity like the Holy See. Even Machiavelli's anti-hero Cesare Borgia couldn't live up to the standards required for long-term success (a prince cannot play only the lion nor the fox).
Few people have even read "The Prince", which is more of a history book than a philosophical manifesto.

This was great and so true! I'm familiar with some of these books. What I can't grasp is how many people, who claim to be against racism, embrace Darwin and his theories. Don't they know he was fervently racist? They must not have actually read his work. And it's so clear how the ideas of communism and eugenics have toppled our nation's morality I recommend an awesome two-part documentary called "Agenda: Grinding America Down" and "Agenda 2: Masters of Deceit" produced by former Idaho State Rep. Curtis Bowers. It's a shocking exposure of the Marxist ideology permeating every institution in America. I wish every American could watch it!

Neo-marxists (of the critical theory denominations) make a similar argument about the constitution and bill of rights. They were written by slave owners, racists, and misogynists, therefore we should discard both documents and repudiate what they assert.

Even if Darwin was a racist (and given his era and class it would be almost shocking if he wasn't) it wouldn't have any effect upon the accuracy of his hypotheses. That's not how science works. The character of the scientist is irrelevant. All that matters is the evidence.

    • @annahenderson2155
      @annahenderson2155 2 года назад

@@ttthttpd A person's beliefs do matter. The evidence is in the effects of what they promote. Because of Darwin's beliefs, scientific AND moral, people were reduced to just evolved animals and thus killing millions was justifiable. The Founders and authors of our nation's great documents, on the other hand, believed the complete opposite. Few, if any, held racist beliefs (though I grant there were some, especially in the Confederacy, who did). They actually saw the discrepancy in the free society they dreamed of and the one of slavery that they were living in. Thomas Jefferson believed that "all men are created equal" in their nature, as image-bearers of God, though they may not share the same status or wealth. The Founders also knew slavery couldn't be eradicated in a second; the entire economy depended on it at the time. But they foresaw a day when it would be done away with. That's why there is nothing about slavery in the Constitution. They wanted that system of oppression and degradation to be erased from our country's existence. The effects of these men's beliefs brought about the free nation of equal opportunity and enterprise that many people, of all skin tones, have long enjoyed. Darwin and Karl Marx brought about Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia. Religious beliefs are part of every ideology. And I must add that Christianity is the most UN-racist belief system ever. The Bible says that we are made in God's image; it says that in Christ there is neither Jew nor Greek, black nor white, male nor female; it says God is no respecter of persons. And if Jesus loved everyone enough to die for them and offer them eternal life, we who have taken the name of Christian can show no less love. I am trying, anyhow! So you can bet that a person who professes Christ and yet is racist is either just misled or is not truly a believer. In God's eyes, there are no races except the human race. I hold to that too. That's why I never term people by race. I always describe them as a people group. My point with all this? Any ideology that is anti-God will always end horribly. No humanist or Communist government ever achieved peace, unity, or freedom. The moral side can never be separated from the political side.

@@annahenderson2155 If satan himself told you a demonstrable fact, with the express intent to harm you with it, does it cease to be a fact?
Obviously not. Neither the beliefs nor intent of those demonstrating empirically verifiable facts has any bearing on the factualness of those facts. Though it does imply need for greater scrutiny for bias and sleight of hand.
Its a bit how some postmodernists and SocJus types are trying to argue that science had outright racists and sexists back in the day, so the very scientific process should be scrapped and replaced with a system that doesn't care about facts but the consequences of asserted beliefs (they dont believe in objective facts).
Also, how does acknowledging humans are animals reduce us to *just* animals? Admitting that humans are mammals is not degrading in the slightest, it's an obvious fact regardless of belief system. Likewise to admit humans are apes, whether made that way or evolved as such.
I hold humans being evolved, or "just an animal" is actual a positive belief in one regard: every species has a nature, a means of survival. Thus we arent simply "socially constructed" souls, disconnected from our biology, as the gender theorists and dialectical schemers want us to be. No amount of mass killing and campaigns of terror will ever be able to transform (via the dialectic) that nature into what utopia demands. No amount of screaming and tears will decouple sex and gender. Just like neither will make humans breathe underwater or subsist off sunlight.
As to what that nature / means of survival is, we are the rational animal, and a tribalistic animal. The means of escaping the dark side of this later trait is revealed both in your last reply and in the core structure of your holy book: universalization of the tribe. The book starts with a couple, then a family, then tribes, a nation, then Jesus opens up the church to all humanity. Likewise, classical liberal (small L, not commie/progressive hijacking of the word) philosophies have pushed universalism via their own approaches to natural law and inalienable rights.

There are people who want to replace the national anthem with it. Unfortunately for Lennon, he will indeed be more popular than Jesus down in Hell, and no amount of imagining will relieve the torment.
Dishonorable mention to "My Sweet Lord" , by another hellbound Beatle, for his deceptive ode to the Hindu god, and false religion of hare Krishna. Everybody thought he was talking about God but in fact, he was very anti-God and antichrist and thought it funny that Americans were praising another god and singing Hindu prayers in the supermarket. George Harrison did more than any other westerner to get eastern religions into our culture going back to 1965 and his obsession with Indian culture. He lectured others and acting enlightened, while completely deceived himself. He used his influence to lead millions astray just like Lennon.

Queer Theory's founding papers advocate "cross generational relationships" and has degerated from sexual marxism to a critical theory against normality in any form. And what is more if a norm than gender? The theory has its roots in Gramsci and all the other dialectical usual subjects, in the usual chain back to before Marx. Many will probably disagree with me but I believe the Prince (or even the book The Art of War) is/are not really an evil book it is a self evaluation of how Christians probably could lose in politics by being passive. We already know we are passing through this world to live for Christ. To understand the sacrifices of not living of the world. If a Christian leader/prince is to rule this could be playbook of how evil leaders rule and play the game. Matthew 10:16 “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves. Be ye therefore wise as serpents and harmless as doves”.

    Psalms Chapter 51
1(To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.) Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
2Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
3For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
4Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
5Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
6Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
7Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
9Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
10Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
11Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
12Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
13Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
14Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
15O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
16For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
18Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
19Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.

Sir, I learn a lot by your channel and take much encouragement of it.
This time, I disagree with the thumbnail and the opinion, that written books exist, which have to be burned. There are of course books to destroy: books, whoose lecture is sin by itself. That's the case with pornography, which harms two of the ten comandments. In every other case, I agree with Umberto Eco: "It begins with burning books an ends up with gas chambers" - a truth, we germans bitterly experienced. The ephesus-case, where the new christians made a statement to the in heathen cults captured people is another exception. It demonstratet an new treasure, which ist far more to gain, than the old lifes pleasures. It ist the real-life example of the new wine in new vessels and the the beautiful pearl for which every other thing had to be sold. It had also the couseling effect, to show the inhabitants of Ephesus, that the "Kosmokratores" have no power over the "Pantokrator" and what it means to mortify the old man.
For the one, who deeply knows the bible, every other book serves as a commentary. It shows him, what colours the rebellion of men an kings in Psalm 2 has or the truth the bible has throuh all the centuries. It satisfies, when scientists come after twothousand years to conclusions, the bible already talked about.
That does not mean, that everyone has to read every book. Of course my children must not read Dawkins until they are strong in biblical teaching. Another grave exception ist an bad conscience.
But that does not condemn books to the flames.
Perhabs in few hundred years people will search for theese books, we wish that would have never been written, to understand which thinking and which conclusions led to the disasters we have produced.
To erase the whitness of a thinking, a philosophical or historical episode does not make it unhappend.
I agree with your judgement on the books and it is fundamental to capture every thinking under the obedience of christ and to destroy these thought-buildings by the truth of God, but I disagree with the destructions of books.
Greetings from Germany and further blessings for your service!
    Johannes

Excellent presentation. One of the most anti-Christian writers was Voltaire:
    THE DEATH OF VOLTAIRE
    Francois-Marie Arouet (Voltaire), 1694-1778
Voices from the Edge of Eternity
    Compiled by John Myers
Last Hours On Earth Of The Noted French Infidel, Voltaire
    Pages 21-22:
“When Voltaire felt the stroke which he realized must terminate in death, he was overpowered with remorse. He at once sent for the priest and wanted to be ‘reconciled to the church.’ His infidel flatterers hastened to his chamber to prevent his incantation, but it was only to witness his ignominy and their own. He cursed them to their faces and, since his distress was increased by their presence, repeatedly and loudly exclaimed, ‘Begone! It is you that have brought me to my present condition. Leave me, I say - begone! What a wretched glory is this which you have produced for me!’
“Hoping to allay his anguish by a written recantation, he had it prepared, signed it, and saw it witnessed. But it was all unavailing. For two months he was tortured with such an agony as led him at times to gnash his teeth in impotent rage against God and man. At other times, in plaintive accents, he would plead, ‘O Christ! O Lord Jesus!’ Then, turning his face he would cry out, ‘I must die - abandoned of God and of men!’
“As his end drew near his condition became so frightful that his infidel associates were afraid to approach his bedside. Still they guarded the door, that others might not know how awfully an infidel was compelled to die. Even his nurse repeatedly said that for all the wealth of Europe she would never see another infidel die. It was a scene of horror that lies beyond all exaggeration.
“Such is the well-attested end of this man who had a natural sovereignty of intellect, excellent education, great wealth and much earthly honor.”
-The Contrast Between Infidelity and Christianity
