      @@ImpendingJoker I had the trial for the Huey, and I loved flying it. However, in combat it's quite ineffective. One day when I have some spare cash I'll get it just to fly around in, but in the realm of dcs it's not very good.

      @@jeevungill7096 Then you truly don't know the Huey. It is great for lightly contested areas where there are just troops on the ground, and you can transport troops and sling load with it and that makes it way better than the Hind on multiplayer servers where you are trying to capture and resupply bases.

    I got to learn about aerial artillery guidance, basically a FAC for artillery (I was a FO at Bragg) and rode left seat in an OH-58 Kiowa (Basically a 206 in OD with a black panel). but that was over 40 years ago and the warrior was yet to come. I have very little novelty time in a 206 and some high end (Level D) sim time in a few types. I love helicopters and they're a large share of my sim time... what I'd chase if I had it all to do over again.
    I was a huge Jane's fan, the sim and publication and was enthralled with the state-of-the-art of the Kiowa Warrior. But I fell in love with the warrior after watching them buzz around the range onboard Bellows AAF.
    It wasn't until I was touring the Bell Customer Flight Academy at KAFW I saw a warrior up close and inside. As I was walking through the hangar, I saw the "alien head" on a white helicopter with Bell standard blue panels and an "N" number. It made perfect sense for training in a civilian area. All that to say this, the cockpit looks absolutely fantastic, the flight model looks fantastic and your demonstration was a pleasure to watch.
    I think this module has pushed me over the edge of teetering around which sim and whether I want to go ahead and get one. I'll be getting DCS and wait anxiously for this release.

    Module looks great. I was in Iraq in 2005 with the 172nd and had OH58's supporting us, love that helo. Looking forward to having hunter killer teams with Ah64's and OH58's. The progress looks good. I also fly the Gazelle and love it. I think most of the complaints about it are from people who don't fly it much or put silly curves on it and such. (or bad controls / ham fisting and complaining.) It isn't perfect, but fun, and if people would learn to fly it instead of just jumping on the "bad flight model" bandwagon I think they'd find how enjoyable it is. (same people probably fly the Unicorn Ka-50 which wasn't ever operational or weapons certified. It'd be like having a YF-23 in DCS. Cool, okay, but never operational and all the data is fiction.)
    As to your VR performance. I didn't have great luck with multithreading either. I had a 3060TI and was in the process of building a new PC with a 4080, an I9 12th gen, and 64gb of RAM. The old PC was a 3060TI, 64gb ram, and a 10th gen I7. I doubled my framerates with the new PC. And during some of the testing I've been doing, My RAM usage never goes about 31-32GB. Doing some research I think there is something in DCS that won't optimize or use more ram and 32 gb. And obviously DCS isn't going to run as well if the RAM is maxed, or near max. I don't know what and how much RAM you've got, but I think that with the current programing in DCS, 64 gb is about what you want if you're using VR or wanting to run good framerate in multiplayer. Currently I get about 120-130 fps in MT single player, and 70-90 in multiplayer (which doesn't support MT) Anyway, the 4080 is absolutely a beast so I'd be interested to see non-VR FPS with an AMD card, as they have more Vram and DCS doesn't use things like raytracing anyway.
    Thanks for the video, and I very much look forward to taking the OH58 for a spin.

      I use the no-center cams (the cosmo-sim cams? Honestly can't remember) on the WarBRD base, with the lightest springs I could find from an online spring supplier which seemed to match the dimensions of the VirPil springs. I tried the lightest VirPil springs, but found I still wanted something lighter so went searching online for something close.
      I've been considering the VirPil CM3 base because I'd like to try something with clutches, but I haven't found a compelling-enough reason to spend that kind of money on another base.
      My flight chair setup is an old office chair with 1/2" plumbing pipes bolted to the underside to support the throttle and cyclic :).

    • @ImpendingJoker
      @ImpendingJoker Год назад +2

      A lot like it was in real life I'd suspect. But the Longbow doesn't really need the Kiowa which is why they were retired RL. In the early days the Kiowa(I) was flown from offshore platforms and small ships at night, years before what you saw in Desert Storm. It's an armed scout, and doesn't really need to be teamed up with an Apache at all, and they function just like any other spotter when utilized. They can laze targets for others just like any other forward observer can but they really excel at gathering information and sharing it with others. Before the War On Terror they were more like a peeping Tom watching from behind trees, hills and buildings, and relaying information. The OH-58D(I) in real life is so underpowered that two good size guys with a full bag of gas can push it past it weight limit, add hot and high to the mix and one of them will have to get out and push. Still though, I loved working on and flying in the little Kiowa because you didn't get in it, you strapped it to your back, and it was oh so much fun at low level.

      @jubuttib Год назад

      @@ImpendingJoker FWIW I can see their point, I have all of the helicopter modules for DCS, been flying them for years, and I'd agree that in its early stages the Apache was by far the most twitchy helicopter in the game, harder to keep stable in a hover than the Huey, and absolute miles away from the terrific stability of the Hind, Hip and especially the Shark.
      Things have changed a lot recently, especially after the multithreading update the Apache got a lot easier to handle and smoother to fly. Still not issue free, they've said themselves that the SCAS still needs tuning, there are some behaviors related to what happens when you dive etc. that aren't working quite right, and there are other oddities like certain trim modes (under the Special settings tab) limiting how fast you can move the cyclic significantly vs. other modes, etc. But it's constantly getting better, and is still a lot of fun. =)

    • @jubuttib
      @jubuttib Год назад

      @@FlavorfulGaming Well, playing the devil's advocate for a bit, I can think of AN explanation: Basically there was nothing in the flight model of the gazelle to save, it's going to be totally scrapped, yeah? They're having to start from scratch with the whole thing. This will take time, a lot of time. More or less as long as making a new module would. They think "can we take the time to redevelop the whole flight model of the Gazelle first, then make a new module, without going bankrupt?" Possibly, maybe even probably not. The Gazelle is unlikely to make much money for them even after the fix. So instead they start working on a new module together with the FM, hoping that by the time they have everything working, they can actually sell a module that people are interested in as well, to generate some cashflow. Then once they have that, they can spare time to bringing the Gazelle up to date.
      Now why aren't they updating the Gazelle as they progress with their flight model for the Kiowa? I have some experience in developing multiple games at the same time, and it can be very undesirable to swap between productions like that. Not only technically, but also mentally. Much easier to stay productive when focusing on one project at a time.
      Why not start with redeveloping the Gazelle FM with the people responsible for that, and have artists and systems developers work on Kiowa, then work on the Kiowa FM once the Gazelle is in the bag, using it as the base? This could easily lead into a situation, where FM and physics are lagging massively behind everything else in the dev pipeline, and a lot of these areas are still intertwined. Like engine management systems might not be done by the FM coder(s), but they still need to work together. This approach would both delay the Kiowa Vs. focusing on it (and they probably need the cashflow it'd generate as soon as possible), and make the work of people outside the FM side less efficient.
      But these are all just random hypotheticals based on some experiences in game development. I have no idea what their studio size is and how clearly divided the workloads are. Where I've worked we've had between 50 and 150 people and people tended to specialize in their own areas, so scheduling and division of labor was always important.
      EDIT: This also isn't to say that leaving the gazelle in the state it is in isn't pretty dang shitty for the consumers, but sometimes you also don't have many options.

      @@jubuttib the solution was available.....not start work on another large project like the Kiowa until the gazelle was in a state that was to the standard of the rest of the game. The gazelle has been in a awful state for as long as it's been in the game so like 2016? 7 years? There is very little excuses we can make for them at this point we just have to accept it and pray the Kiowa releases vaguely to the standard any of the other modules are in.

      They explained this. They are using lessons learned in building the KW dynamics model to rebuild the Gaz from scratch. The reason they are not doing the gaz first before the KW is because they have KW dedicated SMEs right now available for building the rotor model, while they do not have the same level of access for gaz currently.

While I know PolyChop is a small crew and one of their members was ill. I gave a lot of patience. But the response on their Discord channel for any updates on progress is meet with attacks and ridicule.

If you happen to have a Quest 2 or Pro though, try using either wired Link or wireless AirLink and fire up OculusMirror (it's where the debug tool is as well), and enable the stabilization there, make the thing full screen and grab that with OBS.

      If you look the controls indicator box at the bottom left, you can see that cyclic is not anymore hold in the center, and pedals are actually required to be somewhere else than center to fly straight or maintain the movement.
      I am not so sure about pedals sensitivity, but that is me. As when he is firing the gun, there is not much pedal work being done at all for the gun, like it has no recoil.

    Show your control indicator. After the absolute garbage that is the Gazelle I'm not touching this with a ten foot pole unless I have it on vary vary good authority that the cyclic in the cockpit requires the same inputs as the real helicopter. And even then, I might not get it until they fix the Gazelle. This is the only team that I would really wish would just go out of business and go away.

      Clearly you are a discriminating aficionado!
      Question: what "authority" would be credentialed sufficiently to validate the control modeling to meet your standards? The Flugsim Ubervachungs Klub - Ober-Frühstück Fliegerwirtschaft is booked for the next six months.
      By the way, is your control setup pretty similar to a "real" helicopter? No? Yes? Good for you!
      Because the 14 year old kid down the street is flying the same module as you are, with an Atari 2600 joystick and a used throttle quadrant he found in a box in the garage. And he's perfectly happy.
      Want PC to go out of business? Don't buy the module. There: You've done your part.
