Cosmo will probably frown at me now but I pop the AUD circuit breaker until I’ve got the AC gen in. Stops all dings, bings and whoops. Probably not a good idea but it shows the pure genius of the module that it’s even modelled.
Big thanks for your time and effort you put into making these videos for us. I am having a blast with the Kiowa and wouldn't be as far as I am already, without your Combat Ready series and the first stream you made. THANK YOU🍻
I just wanted to add; For those new and stuggling with flight stability/sensitivity. Go into your axis controls and add curves to your cyclic roll/pitch. I find that 25 is about perfect. Prior to doing this, I found the aircraft was so unwieldy that basic flight was tedious and combat maneuvers and were damn near impossible. So, if you’re really struggling with basic stability , don’t get discouraged. Go into controls, search axis commands, find cyclic roll and pitch and you can axis tune these. I’ve had to do this for most of DCS’s helo’s while getting used to them.
You can do it this way and I have but the problem with the curves is it makes the outer area of the axis even more sensitive. I really like reducing the Y saturation instead. It gives your axis a smoother input and there is no force being multiplied later in the axis. The downside is it reduces the usable axis, say you set it to 70 then you only have 70 percent of the axis available. With the kiowa I don't think this is really a problem though because you'll never really need full deflection, if you do though then use force trim. Say you want to push nose down but further than the 70 percent you have available, just force trim then recenter the joystick and you can now push all the way down. If you find the kiowa to be too sensitive, lower the y saturation on the x and y axis to say 60. As you get more comfortable start raising it up.
You know how I know you're an Army aviator. Your use of the word "technique". Such an army aviation ism. Not wrong; just my personal technique. Lol. Takes me back.
I had a friend in maintenance I'd work with who was REALLY good at mimicking the voice. I snuck him around to plug into my ICS when we were doing some testing on the APR-39. We had another guy shooting it with the radar test kit. My buddy popped up with the APR-39 voice, going through the motions and my pilots were none the wiser UNTIL he said: "Missile, four o' clock. We're fucked." I've never seen such hilariously confused faces on my pilots as I did that day.
hey with the fuel quantity when will the engines shut down on the readout only asking cause i had them shutoff with it still reading 38 on the readout. thanks for all the great videos casmo
Sometimes when you have no or a weak fuel pump then sloshing in the tank can prevent fuel flow long enough to starve the engine. At least generally speaking not sure if that's the problem in the Kiowa, I've noticed the same thing in the hornet and assumed it was just that. The viper has strong ass pumps and a high pressure fuel tank and it doesn't suffer from this problem so the context would back me up here. E: completely failed to answer your question lol, sorry. If what I said above is the case then there is no set number and the flameout will be based on how smoothly you fly, turbulence, and aircraft vibrations, among other things.
Regarding force trim, idk if this will help anyone else, but apparently I had force feedback (FFB) enabled in the special options menu which was causing me to be unable to trim the cyclic. Pedals would trim just fine but cyclic was no-go. And no, I do not have a FFB stick irl. To my knowledge I never enabled this setting.
huh? in the kiowa special options there is no FFB option. only options are cyclic trim type and pedal trim type and nothing mentions ffb is what im seeing the correct one?
@@kolavadae4592 My apologies, I double checked the pathing and its under Options > Misc. Its not a Kiowa special option just general DCS option. Once I unchecked "Force Feedback" the trim worked properly.
Did the RWR ”Voice” really sound like this? I thought there was something wrong with my audio settings. What did you call it? Obviously not “Bitchin’ Betty”, “Robotic Rolf” maybe?
Hey is that a custom added water bottle and sticker there sitting on the dash? Or is it part of the base model for the kiowa? I notice it’s a Alpha Troop 1-17 ACS logo…
I’ve flown the Kiowa in VR (Quest pro) and it’s absolutely stunning. The viewing angles are amazing due to the open cockpit and sheer amount of glass rather than steel/kevlar.
@@Tom-qf3mq Yup the kiowa is awesome in my quest 3 once I got some settings dialed in. Being able to look directly down to the ground through the door opening is so cool!
What axis did you map your throttle to? I did the same thing but it doesn't seem to work at all. I used the same axis that I use in the Huey and it works fine there.
@@CasmoTV Thanks a lot. I got it sorted out. It seems my binding didn't bind. So I redid it, and now all is working well. I love this thing and have been flying it all night just for the sheer fun of flying around in it. APKWS in both pods is my current goto, would be easier with a copilot but, Standard FFARs and the .50 are fun as well. Haven't tried the stingers and the Hellfires just seems to be a lot of weight for not a lot of return for trading out all that fuel to carry them.
Lasing targets in low cloud cover for jets is truly an experience. This heli really shines in multiplayer with other people.

That’s interesting lol

Former 58D crew chief here (1/4 Cav) - awesome to see this acft in DCS 👍👍

It was awesome. Watch this and jumped in and I can fly from cold and dark!
Hearing some of the "technique only" stuff is very interesting, such as delaying turning on the SCAS until just before takeoff.
This helo is really growing on me. It's starting to be fun. The takeoff in this thing is a pain though. Thanks for the videos, they really help.
I miss working the flight line, launching 58s for missions.
That creepy APR voice...God, I hated that. It'd bleed over from the pilots to the crewdogs in the 60. Give me chills.

Loving the vids casmo.
Could you do a video on the L2MUMS next.
Such a unique system to the Kiowa in DCS.
Still figuring it out and idk if it’ll happen before I leave for work.
Spend hours reading the manual and going through various online documentation and videos but still can't figure out what's in the thermos....
It’s a fleshlight

What colour smoke does it produce?
@@CasmoTV is that to keep Trickr entertained on the transit in 😂
The reason the MMS won't work on the inverter is it requires 3 phase ac and inverter only puts out single phase ac. *former 15J
I had trouble with this because pit/program was set up in a way that opened the throttle as soon as I got in.
As a 58 crew chief that wanted to know how everything worked this is a solid start up😂
Is there already a "Bug report" for the skids not "Sticking" to the ground?
Is the MPD Bit something that is normally done or skipped?
Thanks for your video's, Casmo. They have been a great help so far!
Done but… DCS 🤷🏻♂️
