  • This is a quick how to replace the Instrument Panel Light if yours has burned out.
    It's cheap and relatively easy. Just a little time consuming from being buried in the dash so far.
    Hopefully this helps someone!
    If you have one burned out I would recommend replacing all 4 because of how hard they are to get to.
    You can pick up a two pack here:

    Thank you for this video, it is very helpful. I bought an Outback and don't recall being told the fuel and heat lights were out before I learned the hard way. I am lucky I didn't blow my engine on the highway yesterday for being used to having light sensors!

    Just tried this, took about 45 minutes (would be faster if I did it when the sun was out). That tiny screw above the ashtray was the worst part, I recommend a small Phillips head on a ratchet. Other than that it was not that bad. Thank you

    Glad I found this. I failed my emissions again. It appears my CEL is not on at all. I don't know what else it could be other than a burned out cluster bulb. I have not removed the cluster for a while, so this video was really helpful!!

    Nobody can say that you are the dim bulb out of the box. Nicely done! Time to break out the plastic cleaner and an old toothbrush to scrub down all of the plastic parts; you will never get to those again. (hi from Tishers on the forum)

    Replacing the dash lights and dome lights with brand new LEDs goes a long towards breathing new life into an older car. You could redo the whole interior for like $25 and it makes a huge difference.
    Pair that with a thorough cleaning and installing an Android Auto/Apple Car Play head unit and for around $200 you can make your early 2000s car feel so much more modern. It's not that difficult to do it all yourself either.

      If I use the replacement lights without the blue sleeve will it still be green after installing it? Like is there a green filter that it passes through before the gauges? I’m trying to replace them this week!!

    • @tpwcrash7883

    • @bruceyyyyy
      @bruceyyyyy  5 лет назад +2

      It's a plastic trim removal tool. Pretty handy piece when working with trim since it's a lot harder to leave marks.
      You can also use a plastic knife but they aren't as strong.

    • @Marshall24601
      @Marshall24601 4 года назад +1

      That is a trim lever. Made to pop plastic parts off. They are tapered to slid into tight spaces and bend without causing much damage. You can find them at any auto parts store.

    • @bruceyyyyy

      I replaced with standard bulbs and they are brighter but still show green.
      The illumination knob fixes the brightness issue as I can simply turn down the brightness but have it brighter than factory if desired.

      @@MrRustyB100 Correct. However I believe that each model, trim, etc will have a different number of bulbs.
      Not VDC cars won't have the VDC and Trac light. Non Baja won't have the pass through icon. Etc.
