This one was a BLAST to make! And I'm stoked to have been able to bring the laptop and suit to the Tempest Academy (parkour gym). What kinds of mocap videos would YOU like to see?? :D
Can you make some kitchen mocap? Combine that with lazytutorials by ian and viola! Or what about action anime-chasing stuff, raid to kitchen and do some kunai chopping lol
I'd love to see you go through making a feature type shot with a feature quality rig and show us how you can use all the tools of both animators and mocap artists to make an amazing shot in a relatively short amount of time. Thank you
I'd really love to see a video on how to use mocap for more cartoony animation. So basically how to simplify the data, removing all the unnecessary details and then exaggerate the poses to read better and have more personality.
You can use mocap as a rough for your poses. Use that data, save the key frames it in another Animation layer and remove the orginal data. Then from there you can animate like usual moving the keys into a more exggerated timing, push the pose even more. Basically you sped up your blocking stage into possibly half a day's work
@@kaokoki5983 thats what i use mo cap and the ocational rotoscope to to do before adding 2d animation for face, cloths, hair, ect over the top. saves a lot of time and looks better then what i can do in pure 2d
Hey man! Mma guy getting into gamedev. You've helped me alot with this so I thought I'd leave a combat distance guide for you if you ever want to a good basic mma choreography. When in body to body distance: try elbows, knees, headbutts. In short range with minimal space between: try hooks, elbows that you step into to close distance, step into knees to close distance, and upper cuts. In long range (extended arm distance or a little outside in case of kicks): straight punches, front kicks, leg kicks, head kicks, and body kicks. Hope this maybe could help you in the future. The idea is that your shots are at full extension of the muscle, and that you don't jam yourself up halfway through the motion and lose power. Best of luck in the future!
Oh! OK this is a thread now actually. When getting hit from the push kick, you are only launched if you hit the Chestplate or sternum as it provides a solid platform to push off of skeletal structure. If you are push kicked in the stomach, your hips will be pushed back, but your feet will remain planted. The only time you are launched from a push kick to the stomach is if you are up on one leg. Watch "Teep" highlights and you can see several examples. Continuing on.
Man you move beautifully with the parkour that's awesome. Animations look amazing I need me a dang suit. Would it be possible to rotoscope on top of this and make a video game mechanic out of it as well??? Sick stuff man, I'm trying to figure out ways to cut my time to proficiency down and the suit will help alot I feel. Man thanks for the vid. This helped me a ton!
If you haven’t already I recommend to look into applying a rig to work with, it will make it a lot easier to edit the animations. Since you’ve already mapped out your character you should be able to just switch on HIK control rig in maya. I really like that you went to the gym to record, that’s awesome! ✨
You have come a long way in Blender already, its awesome to see you delving into textures and lighting, there is so much you can do with it. "EEVEE Next" is coming "2.0" you can preview in EEVEE with materials that you can tweak in cycles after. Congratulations on having fun :O)
Can we get like a 10 part tutorial on this lol. The ups, the downs, struggles and valuable lessons learned type tutorials. I'd love to see your whole process on custom mocap.
Awesome video Sir Wade! :D People are always saying how Mocap is something that will take over animation at some point Even though it's not exactly true, I imagine there being a Mocap/Handkey workflow so that instead of fighting each other for jobs, Animators and Mocap artists can come together and do awesome stuff! :D Mocap could make shooting reference so much more worth while!!! This is awesome. I always thought about getting one of those suits and seeing this from your animator perspective has been informative and fun to watch.
It's not as mighty as that Razer but I was finally able to save up and get the base model 14" Razer blade with a 3060 last week. I'm super stoked for the improvement to my workflow. I ran the Blender render benchmarking tool on the computer I've been working with and got a score of 26, then the Razer got about 2500.
I save a million times in different files. Also you can Export your FBX out just for saves as well. Lastly, I work with MotionBuilder for Mocap then send to Maya. Your first time out with Rokoko is better than most.
I did something quite similar to your 3rd result a few years ago using the kinect as my mocap device, I wanted to make a series of shorts under a minute each. The problem I ran into was one, the kinect obviously needed a ton more cleanup than a real mocap suit would. But the big problem was I couldn't figure out a good re-targeting system to use slightly different rigs for characters. If you could do some learning on how to mix mocap with proper control rig stuff that would be awesome.
There used to be a tool I would use to clean up raw mocap data called IKinema Webanimate. I recently learned that the company was bought by Apple, so I don't know that their tools are accessible anymore. Would be curious to know about current workflows for cleaning up mocap data that might be similar or at least as efficient as IKinema's filtering algorithm was. I know there are a couple options in Blender, but not sure about Maya.
ow. No one is going address 2:56? Because I do know what happened. Also, it's been mind blowing to see how your expertise has grown since you enter into the Blender space. It's awesome!
The bit you're trying to do with your arm is the same aim as what I was hoping to achieve. I don't have the suit so I've been trying to work with cameras but its so buggy I've all but given up. I hope the prices come down on them soon. Or maybe someone will come up with a service to rent them? that'd be awesome In addition to the green glove, a couple sticky dots to track for the purpose of parenting some masks would help with the order of layers problem
Hello wade, Im an aspiring video game developer and i love your videos and they have helped me understand animation so much. When im not working on games I work at geek squad as an advanced repair agent where we do data recovery on lost files quite often. If you still are wanting to recover that 6 weeks of work you could try running data recovery software such as seagate data recovery suite. Lost files are never fully lost. Just wanted to throw that out there just incase you really wanted your files back wanted to let you know it is recoverable.
Sir Wade.... Use the texture coordinate node and mapping, the texture will then not look stretched at all. Mapping helps to control how the texture is scaled or rotated etc. And Use the node wrangler addon; And you can do this with Ctrl + T. Also, with this, you can view things easily by using Ctrl + Shift + Left Click.
Gosh.. I had a similar issue a couple of times where all my animation data got deleted upon re-opening a scene. If a scene crashes now, I immediately open another instance of maya and open that scene before force closing the other. I have found this keeps it from randomly deleting the data. Whenever I was researching why this happens, I recall coming across a blog from a Tech Artist that talked about animation curve nodes (?) getting disconnected and that might be the reason why the animation went poof. Not 100% on that though.
You could make a Sir Wade mocap animation pack and sell it lol. Would be a pack of random actions you do, maybe polish them with your touch, and make em available as a package
Great video! I just started playing around with mo cap in motionbuilder. For me coming from Maya; editing the baked keys is challenging. I guess because I have been using Maya so long it’s super easy to that in the graph editor, but in MB, in FCurves it’s different. I guess I just have to get used to it.
Updating to this post I made a few days ago…I have recently learned that in MotionBuilder the idea is to not edit the original animation curve but rather bake to control rig and create a new animation layer, leaving the original animation intact. Already learning more than I did a few days ago! 😃💪🏾🔥💯
Thanks for this. I came to this video hoping you'd show us more of your Maya workflow & experience with the Human IK system. I was interested in more details on the little Maya tricks you were doing, like custom Shelf buttons.
Do you have any tips on how to reduce the magnetic interferences? Because your raw data looks pretty good compared to what I’ve managed to accomplish. 🙂 Nice video!
Love the best of both world approach with Maya+Blender! BTW Blender finally added the drag to add node in the shader editor, so you just drag a connection to an empty space to create an input/output node from a connector. (Now it's on par with Unity Godot and Unreal ux wise)
