    A man named Sherman Sligh back in the 70's had a 600+ horse 300. Dubbed boss 300. It consisted of six segmented pieces of boss 302 heads, late 60's castings. For a half day or more straight he heated these segments 1200+ degrees and brazed them together.(cast iron doesn't play nicely in welding). He epoxied the intake runners(they were too big), put a massive thumpstick and valtrain to complement(roller lifters, cam, two piece pushrods etc.), along with custom rotating assembly.(gas ported forged pistons, alimunum rods,) Ran a 9.2 second qtr mile, vehicle type I have not found. N/a build. He mainly stuck to circ racing, eventually being banned. Even won indie by 2 seconds but didn't count as official record due to ban. Early 70's. I've a 300 myself, great engines.

    I know I comment on your fb post already, but the DSS 390 ford pistons for the extra $80 to get the custom bore size so you're not stuck with a 0.050 overbore is by far the best route. Same pin size and compression height range. Those along with the Molnar 300 rods you're set with a good balance job. Looking forward to your build progress, hopefully will have mine running soon also

    I was looking for a truck rather recently and remembered learning about the Ford I6.
    I made it my goal to find a truck with this engine and 4wd. There are a few trucks spotted with the engine. Found some for under a grand. Even though I spotted some 460's I'm focused on the I6, which are 300ci.

    Other people have said it, but I want to reiterate that you can use 390 Pistons instead of boring that much over. It's the best bet because the geometry matches up perfectly and you can keep[ your compression ratio up without creating even more work.

    I ended up going with some BBC H-Beam con rods, just a very light trim on the crank. I went with the longer, bigger pinto valves. Waiting on the machinist to finish the head to find out what pistons I need built. And yes H.S. rockers 👍 shooting for 600hp but will see, I'll probably push it until something breaks then build another even stronger. Best engine to ever come out of Detroit. Keep water and oil in it and beat the crap out of it cause she will take it and keep on coming. I bought one once suppose to been blown up. 32 dollars worth of rocker arms and push rods I drove it for years

  • @Fordman7575
    @Fordman7575 Год назад

    What year is the replacements engine?
    Just to let you know the stock connecting rods are forged. All 240/300's came stock with forged rods. If you don't want to go aftermarket rods you can just add some ARP rod bolts and have the rods polished, shot peened and balanced. The early rods 1965-67 were slightly stronger because they didn't have the oil squirt holes. And they also had the smaller .912" piston pin diameter ( same as the SBF V8's ) . Which would allow you to run stock compression height forged 351W pistons. The later rods 1968-1997 have the .975" piston pin diameter. You can still run the 351W pistons but would need to have the small end of the connecting rods bushed down.
    If you really want forged pistons the best bet is to just have a set made. That way you can have them built to best fit your exact build. AutoTec are a good choice for custom pistons.
    You probably know this, but that cylinder head will also require push rod guide plates and hardened pushrods.
