quintus Though the auto-resolve never worked well, the outcome of these battle were just too ridiculous. I bet he probably used console commands (auto_win "attacker"/"defender") to purposely lose his battles for comedic effect.
I once lost a battle against a single general unit, while I had about 500 soldiers in one army. I auto resolved and lost because of the general's leadership stat.
I remember playing this on my dads computer when I was about 5 or 6 years old. Used to set up custom battles where I had an insane advantage. It was the only way I could win
Nice as always, 10/10 but since I'm French you also earn the title Philip Le Vil Gueux d'Albion, (gotta start a series where I beat the english in every total war as the french in retaliation !)
Rome Total War is the best Total war game till this day and one of the best strategy games ever made. It has aged wonderfully and still holds up brilliantly. The new total war games are all style over substance.
There's a book you may be interested in called '1000 years of annoying the French', written by a Brit who has lived in France most of his life. He goes on to talk about the conflicts and silly points both countries still hold against each other and who is right and wrong. Fantastic book mate!
Love that game. Do you recall the BBC series that used total war as a strategy game with 4 members of the public controlling the troops reenacting famous battles?
Good ol Rome 1. i broke a hard drive by leaving my pc on for nearly 4 months due to it barely meeting min requirements and not wanting to wait for loading when the game started.
My Mom bought me this game when I was 9, I turned 23 today. Still play this game, in-game speeches, wall sapping, that silhouetted home screen. I'm glad hour trackers on games didn't exist back then.
I wish I could upvote this a hundred times. You making stories in the Total War series, it is glorious. * insert grim yet profound loading screen quote here *
Ah, 2004. Perhaps the best year for PC gaming that I've lived through. Rome: Total War, Half Life 2, and don't forget Far Cry 1. Although Doom 3 and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory did come out in 2005...
The best thing about Rome Total War vs different total wars are the cultures. Romans? Barbarians? Cartagine? Easteners? Egyptians? They have it all. No more knights fighting other knights or japanese peasants fighting japaneses peasants.
this game came out when I was only two years old which is kinda crazy. It wasn't until about 2 years ago that I actually gave a shot at this. My first Total War game was Empire. Yes, I played arguably the worst game of the series and I loved it. My brother had gotten it out of the discount bin at Best Buy and brought it home. We spent over a day waiting for it to download on a horrifically under qualified laptop which eventually caught fire a few years later (playing Empire of course). It was truly glorious. It still holds a special place in my heart to this day. Anyways back to the story. I found Rome to be possibly the most in-depth of the series, with units actually taking up population so that you had to carefully manage city growth with army growth. It amazes me that over a decade later Rome stands the test of time.
I have amazing memories of completely fucking up history in this game. I remember a campaign as the Julii where y went totally aggresive against everyone. I embarked myself on a war against Carthage in Northern Africa (while also having captured one of the Sicily settlements), a war against the Gauls, the Germans and Dacia. I had conquered central and western Europe and the north of Africa. The other 2 roman factins were struggling to get some settlements from Greece. I also rememberr that sometimes battles were incredible and extremely satisfying. I remember, in another campaign as Carthage, having beaten the entire SPQR army with a half-sized army and way weaker
Great video Phillip. I am extremely thankful for 2klik and kliks Phillip for still bringing me great content to watch as I stopped playing csgo and 3klik is just not my cuppa tea anymore, even though I still dabble in a few videos on that channel as you're just so damn entertaining. Anyway bit longwinded for a comment but I wanted to share my 2pence with you. P. S love the total war series they're some great games!
I've noticed games units getting more an more similar aswell. If you look at games from 10 years ago everything was modeled very different and enemies were colour coated. Although with some genres it fits to go more realistic, I prefer in team based games 2 distinct colours and very different models for unit types.
Not just talking total wars, but other games as well. Gritty games with color schemes of green and brown are too dull for my liking, unless the game is aiming for super realism a simple tinge of red or blue to a unit would make a world of a difference.
Honestly, I wish devs where a little more open to variety. I wish there where lower budget offshoots that focused more on scale and polish over cinematic unit detail (calling it realistic is laughable). I wouldn't mind a game that looked a little more basic (or stylized like the shogun 2 mobile games) if it meant having a game that was mechanically polished, intuitive, clearly telegraphed, balanced and exploit free. I'm not saying that's what every total war game should be, I'm just saying my dream game is a polished total war that doesn't slow down during massive battles, has decent AI, has well thought out and intuitive gameplay. Every total war has (even the old ones) have corks that make them janky, whether it's the collisions system, poorly thought out mechanics, UI, or just generally unclear rules. I like the series, I just wish more time and money went into making them good games, rather then Hollywood movie simulators.
Ahem. You can unlock all factions with this simple method: open the descr_strat file in [Install location]\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_strat.txt and there move any faction you want from non-playable/unlockable to playable. (Works in M2 aswell)
God I loved this game so much. I happened to luck out and chose it as one of the few games I could bring with me to a combat deployment to Iraq. What a lucky choise I made I didn't tire of it aftr playing it nearly every day for a year. I don't think I can say that about any other game. The original X-com maybe but I can't think of any others which could do it. For its time this game was incredibly superior to pretty much everything else. Hunh much like the Roman legions were in their day.
Best childhood game ever. This game is not a exactly how was in history but really good game 10/10 if you say graphics are bad I will remwmber this game is form 2004 .
Really one of the best games i've played as a kid, I didn't really go for the campaign tho (i tought it was boring) and instead fought against my friends. Anway this was probably the best total war ever tbh I haven't played any other total war game but I still think this is the best one, you just made me want to download it again I got pretty hyped.
You can make all factions playable instantly by modifying a text file. Even the non unlockable ones like the rebels or the Senate! Love this game, its a shame the AI is so silly sometimes
I never played Total War before.. I was more of an Age of Empires guy. PC gaming for me in my childhood was my cousin's PC(Around 2007 i'd say, maybe a bit before). We played a lot of good and bad games. Road Rash was among the first. We played CS 1.6,CZ,Source were one of them. All single player, cuz we had no internet.CZ was out fabourite because it had missions. Everything pirated,on CDs/DVDs from my cousin's neighbours, with no way to get legit copies of games,we 8-10 y.o.s never knew there were legit ways. Half Life was only a splash screen in 1.6,which on being clicked froze and crashed. We also got a Sega Genesis Emulator and a CRAPLOAD of games(~1000).Our joy knew no bounds. Ofcourse we played only a handful of them, including Micro Machines,a ton of Japanese games(like Dragon Ball z,a Baseball game, etc.),Zombies in our Neighborhood, etc Project IGI,Spiderman 1 and 2(2 was really a step up from 1,with the ability to free roam the city),Delta Force,Halo CE,Vice City and later San Andreas were our definition for AAA games. All with tons of other small flash games and miniclip games and too many other games to mention here. Good times. why am I saying all this, because you felt nostalgic in the video, and I felt to bask in my own by sharing my experiences.
It's quite funny to me. I have no interest in the games you play, but somehow find you videos quite enjoyable and usually watch them as soon as they come out. Your videos have this optimistic melancholic feel to them... It's great! XD Keep up the good work ;-)
this game was great back in the day but going back to it really opens your eyes to the flaws. for example once you have about 5 citys to your name it is basically impossible to lose especially if you go one of the greek factions as pike men literally cannot be beaten in a defensive siege battle as long as you leave them in plalanx formation

For they knew not what ventured beyond the Antonine Wall, only the gaseous whispers of a Magister Pedere. Twas just 8 years after the completion of the Antonine Wall, when suddenly it was mysteriously abandoned. Some say it was a heady fetor in the air which grew stronger as the Magister Pedere grew louder. And so the legend of the Fart Master was born.
I agree with the graphics things.. I went from wc2 to wc3 to WoW when i was a kid.. I understand its going from RTS to MMO, but it was a hell of a jump for the graphics
The Britons technically already had a part of France and that was Brittany for they were of similar Brythonnic blood. We can see the correlation between Ireland, Wales, Cornwall and Britanny still to this day.
When I Played Rome Total war i took chartage easily since i thought there were over a thousand men in chartage and i brought 1.4k of men and chartage had 200 men :)

Great video, i have put thousands of hours into this game. Since then i got the retail version on steam with the code of the disc. Put in another hundreds of hours.
This was certainly an amazing video! I'm considering buying this game after this upload. Thank you for the amazing content, my good sir!
you didn't already own it WHAT IS THIS
I still find myself playing this game, just because the sequel of this game is too big for me to bother downloading. Rome2 is pretty great aswell.
I have it however, I cant play because it does not work on windows 10. :(
hugo van der burg
it works fine on windows 10. do you have the steam version or cd? In case you use a cd just get a crack on the piratebay.
TBH I played this as a kid. I played it a few weaks ago but ultimetly its age made it only so good the nostalgic could get it to be
You must be excited for the new total war coming out. All about Britain
Eyyyyy, you a kliksphilip fan? That's cool! Keep doing amazing videos yourself sir!
Its on China man...
He means total war saga thrones of britannia.
Yeah but he can't kill the French in it!
Never knew you were into these type of games
wow total war really does calculate auto-resolve like a dyslexic parrot
Chairots man, effing Chairots.
Chariots are OP af in auto-resolve.
Chariots are seriously broken in auto-resolve
However those numbers seriously looked like he did 'autowin defender' in the cheat shell :P

"The vile wretch of Albion" nice!

I mean he talked about it in the video

"I will war cry in your general direction"
Was that a Monty Python reference?
What is the reference?
You could've just edited the game files to unlock all factions right away. But I guess you just wanted to take the hard route on purpose. :P
Umut Balci And play as the Pope :D
Editing the game files makes it sounds difficult. Its literally just a text file that says unlocked factions.
Yeah it's a lot easier than it sounds.
the romans lacked the technology at that time, dont u get this is an accurate historical documentary?
I wish that this had been up-voted. He probably knows. But what if he doesn't and would just have edited the shit.

Athlestone yes but in rome 2 you can't because fucking dlc
Erik Gabriel But this is Rome TW
Cool Cat ik Rome TW>Rome 2
you can also move Rebels into the playable factions who are a little goofy, but you can't do anything with the purple romans as it'll crash your game.
but that's no fun
Holy shit, Philip playing Rome total war.. the best total war there is. I can't believe it. It's awesome you're playing such an amazing game

Please carry on this series! I was hoping the sequel to the first would be out soon.
The narrative in these videos is class!
Awesome! I was anxiously waiting for the next total war video!
