    Glad to see your dog is doing okay. Keep spirits high! I treat my dog like he's my own child. He's only 3 but I dread anything happening to him. Onto the Duo, I came close to wanting to sell my Duo 2. The glitches I'd mentioned in previous videos have all seemingly disappeared. You can tell Microsoft put a lot of work into this big update. The worst glitch I had was opening my phone into phone mode (from locked) and it would go landscape almost all the time and I'd have to force it back. That's gone. I am in love with the phone again. I wish there were more radical changes, but overall I'm very happy it's just cleaner looking and, in my experience since the update, 100% bug free. It's just been perfect. All I really want is RUclips Music to be made landscape compatible for when I'm driving. I put my phone into laptop mode and it sits comfortably in front of gear stick and RUclips Music just doesn't look right in its current landscape form lol

    (Ditherer:S10>S22 or SD2) Many thanks for keeping us so updated, Shane. I was impressed with Panos's interview during the recent MS event. He seems a guy who would 'stick' at it. Your alert ref. SD1's price-reduction was helpful, but would the lure of the low price be outweighed by that Model being unsupported in a short while as SD3 nears?

      @BenLewisMaverick Год назад +1

      Agreed, Great summary! Lots of little tweaks here and there discovered so far, thanks.
      Sadly I'm one of those who isn't a big fan of the forced pastel, although I can see the novelty!
      It's just mine is mainly used as a fairly serious business device for lots of MS Office 365 apps
      (often for quickly presenting concept ideas, test data, research, etc, during conversations with senior directors, board members, CTOs, etc.. )
      I can deal with the occasional questions/scepticism/intregue about the (dual screen) format by explaining it is genuinely useful and not just a foldable-fashion gimmick, but the fact that it looks like I've chosen baby-pinks or blue or green accents weirdly undermines my point and is quite distracting somehow? 🤷😂
      Honestly I'd just be very happy for white, however dull that may seem..
      Otherwise, lots of great positive steps forward this update!.. Dual app instances are potentially very powerful, and I'm finally registering 'deep sleep' power state and low power draw with the screen off overnight (a few %)

    For me the standout huge improvement is the device performance and touch recognition.. Absolute game changer.. For me the scrolling and performance has increased at least 50% not to mention I can touch type now as fast as I want, without having to wait for the missing keys/keyboard lag.. So much different.. Those were my 2 main gripes with the device and they sorted both.. I couldent have asked for a better update. I am not a huge camera user kind of person, so for me the crap camera isn't a deal breaker on the og duo. I do wish they had included that little bump with the circle recess.. That would have been cool. Better camera would have made this og duo a really awesome phone. Even without, I like it a lot,esp now after 12l :)

      On the Pixel, there's an option in "Settings -> System -> Gestures -> Press and hold power button" to change the behavior. Microsoft went out of their way to disable and hide that Android 12 setting so we don't get a choice on Surface Duo.

    The taskbar still makes sense because it’s always there unlike the launcher. If you have apps on both duo screens, you’d be able to simply replace either app (or both with app pairs) with different apps with one tap or swipe.

    • @scaryifliteral
      @scaryifliteral  Год назад

      The question though is whether or not it's easier to drag an app up from the taskbar (or the app drawer in the taskbar) or just wipe up and go home and lunch an app from your home screen. Obviously, when going from one app to two apps it is extremely easy to just launch an app from your other screen. When replacing what are those apps is a tap hold and drag really significantly easier or more efficient than a swipe up to go home and then a tap?

    • @oorcinus
      @oorcinus Год назад

      @@scaryifliteral I guess it depends on the habit. I often drag stuff off the dock to replace one of existing apps, on iPad, Samsung Tab and Fold, so i'm sort of used to being able to do that, as opposed to having to go back to home. Depends on what the apps in question are too. I'll often have e.g youtube on one side, and browser on the other, and drag a messenger or chat up over the browser to respond or send something without interrupting the video. I realize in Duo's case it doesn't matter much cause you can "go back to home" on just one side without interruption, but it's a habit :)

    • @oorcinus
      @oorcinus Год назад

      Also, there's something to be said about other edge cases like being able to quickly dip in and out of pairs of apps too, or temporarily replacing just one screen of a dual screen spanning app (e.g. e-book reader) with say, a chat or email. Having a launcher/dock just seems like a slightly sleeker and slightly less clunky way to deal with multitasking.

    Hi Craig, A couple of issues you might be able to solve.
    Since Android 12L update, when I turn my screen back on the phone hang until, I presume, something wakes up. I cant press any icons for a few seconds.
    Daily I pull down the control center and tap on or off wifi. This seems to have gone in the update. You have to open up the menu and press the wifi toggle.
    Lastly. All my apps that try hit wifi up when it has reception hangs now. Example. Playing a game, get to a tube station when it would connect to wifi. It doesn't have time to before setting off again but the game / spotify / sound cloud just hands as its trying to log on to wifi.
    On the plus side, at least the Bluetooth has improved somewhat. Hope you dog is doing well.

      The closest thing I've seen is the screen just staying black for maybe a second before it fully wakes up, but that isn't new. If your issue persists after a reboot I'd look in my running services in dev mode and see if anything looks weird there.
      The Wi-Fi toggle thing is an A12 problem which I will look into a fix for. There may be something out there.
      Not sure what to make of the last issue.

    I spent hours the other day testing out third-party calendar widgets and tweaking them to match the new aesthetic. I was trying to replace the Outlook Calendar widget because it looks outdated now. So much effort and in the end I went back to Outlook because the third-party options all have one major drawback: They work through google calendar. So first you have to sync your outlook with google calendar and then the third party pulls it's info from Google. But Google calendar changes the color coding of all your events and there's no way to edit them. That's if you're doing it through Android. If you try to do all the syncing and what not through a desktop browser then you can actually edit the color coding. So perfect, right? Nope, now the calendar you imported is just a static that will never update... Can you tell I'm frustrated?

      This is simply not true. There is more to 12L, which is really more like 12.5, than just a taskbar. Just like on my Pixel, the taskbar doesn't make sense on Duo. The dual panel notification shade doesn't make sense on Duo. The new APIs CERTAINLY do and we can already see them at work. All the changes of 12L are in 13, but on devices where they don't make sense they aren't enabled. Is my Pixel not running 13 now because the taskbar isn't there? Of course not.
