I've had my Duo (First Gen) for a few months. It was just too clunky to use, and I regretted buying it because the software experience was so bad. So my Duo became a paperweight and I stuck with my Galaxy Note 10. After installing 12L, the Duo is now my daily driver. The device has been transformed. Absolutely love, love, love the update. The Duo is so much better now and finally feels like a premium product. Yes, the digitizer sucks and switching between apps sucks, but 12L is fantastic.
I have a duo and got mine after Android 11 and it had its qwerks but was very well usable. Came from my note 9 and never gone back. I used mine for a lot of Social media posts, video editing, work (It) so a lot of Microsoft apps work ect. For me it replaced my pc for a lot of things. I have just got a surface 6 to replace my original surface and now found myself doing a lot more video editing ect but that's more to do with Windows apps being more advanced ect. I like the little touches from the android update but I don't really notice much difference between 11 and 12 in terms of how it works. Glad it's better after 12L though.
Guys when using this duo 1st gen fir phone calls I find that it is it loud enough when trying to hear the other person volume completely up is this normal guys if it is that's not good and my hearing is very good well I hope it is anyhow lol?
I'm guessing the main thing people expected and are missing on 12L is a better launcher with more customizability. I agree with the sentiment, but I understand that the launcher is up to Microsoft and not Android.

I really like the update for one reason alone, U.I. / visual continuity between my Duo and Windows 11. I think that this helps your mind flow really seamlessly between phone/pc, especially with phone link enabled. Even if nothing else improves, this is huge for me. It simulates the "dream" many have had for a long time, that being a phone running windows in a microsoft ecosystem with their pc machines. This isn't that, but it feels a lot more close to me.
Coming from an early Windows Phone user and lover, this is reminiscent of those exciting times, for anyone else that was around during the WP 7.8 -> WP 8 transition, nothing will ever compare I think.
Great video. At the end of the day, people will have built up expectations, regardless of what you do. I've been watching your videos for sometime now, because you are one of the few content creates that has done and excellent job of keeping things grounded in reality and give honest reviews. Android 12L has been a joy to use. I will say as of this morning, I noticed that my screens blacked out and I had to close it a couple of times and that's never happened to me. I cannot say if it's because of the update or if it's a hardware issue. Otherwise, I have no issues with the update itself.
Mate, I'm loving your Duo coverage. My Duo is coming later this week as I finally took the plunge and beyond installing updates I'll never use Android 10, it'll be 12L all the way for me.

So I finally am getting a new Surface Duo 1 (2 still out of my economic price range), I'm hoping to make SD1 my DD. This 12L update is certainly making me look fwd with expectation!
Duo 1 with the update is much much much more fluid in day to day use. Before it was buggy and laggy AF. Now can I acutally use it as main phone. Can't believe it took MS this long to finally make the product usable. But they did it nonetheless gotta give them that!
I've just come across a brill app which works great for Surface Duo. I recommend you give it a go if you don't already have it. Flip board. Only just discovered it. News topics tailored to you and you flip through like a book. Looks great when spanned.
The scrolling issue is exactly what I was talking about on my comment on your other video! I am not using the official twitter client but fenix2 but it's the same effect. Also I have set the animations to 0.5x and when I set them back to 1x it felt so slow, so I set it back to 0.5x. Battery life improved for me. Not by much (as I usually play idle games on both screens) but it feels better now. Touch and type sensitivity improved a lot to me (Duo 2). Also when dragging apps from one screen to the other feels smoother and more reliable as well. Also I didn't test it on 11 but now internet browsers can now "open in a new window" so I can use two tabs at the same time by using two windows (Vivaldi for me). Sad to see that live wallpapers still don't work with the launcher as it still generates the "transparent" part seperatly and it's not really transparent in real time (might also take too much performance I guess) Would be nice to choose to just not have a "bar" at all. All in all, I love it even more now. I was always pretty much satisfied with my Duo 2.
It's perfect for me. Absolutely. No glitches. They're all gone. I wish the big youtubers would go back and take another look at this phone. It's incredible. Edit: Ah, yes I still sometimes have that where the lower icons shuffle to one side of the screen and it seems like there is no fix unless reset 😂
Are those the same icons on the bottom (taskbar?) that you can swipe side to side anyway? You should be able to put them all on the left screen, right screen or across both screens by swiping sideways on them?
@@DonPinguccio ah thanks for clarifying. I don't think I've had that yet.. I've just been dealing with random intermittent delays/freezing lasting several seconds, unresponsive buttons (annoyingly when trying to make a phone call a few times today) and it randomly turning off 1 screen when opened out like a tablet in the car cradle/mount. Overall still a fantastic experience but just a few niggles that I don't remember having pre-update.
Surface Duo 2 user here from the Philippines. I've received 12L during it's Global release and after 1 week of using, it's been a visual eye candy and it's performance on my end has improved, but not yet perfrct. I hope they had an update with the launcher as well. Wish I didn't dispose my 1st Gen SD.
I'm reasonably happy with it. Still some bugs but many of the ones I used to have were finally squashed. Haven't run into the issue of the keyboard showing up on the wrong screen, for one. I seem to be getting better battery life too, especially on standby.
Agree with everything you have said. The Duo 1 & 2 have come along way since the original duo was released. I do feel android is holding the Duo back though. I kind of feel if and its a big if Microsoft can make Arm Windows 11 on the Duo with touch apps coming to it the Duo could really be a pc replacement. It's not a phone for the masses but if they got the support from a lot of Windows most used apps the Duo could be a hit. I still feel we are missing a os that sits between mobile and pc. Again not for everyone but I feel the Duo is for productivity and that is all Microsoft need to get right. Abit like Samsung did with the Note.
Duo 2 user, and I saw a huge change in performance. It was acceptable before, but it's wonderful now. Annoying nit where I couldn't launch grouped notifications (I had to expand and select a specific one) is fixed. The phone used to literally crash loop in certain locations (some tower configuration thing?), and that appears to be gone. Overall agree that it's great (missed the poll). Still not quite perfect (touchscreen still occasionally unresponsive for several seconds, it will now consistently fail to unlock for a few seconds right after pressing the power button), but I eventually bought for the consistent support and am happy to see it continue.
Shane are you on Beta? I didn’t get that scrolling screenshot “capture more” option!? I have also been getting this weird animation of black arc that moves from the centre of the screen to the outside when I fingerprint unlock. It’s an animation because when i turn animations off it stops doing it (thankfully because at first I thought it was hardware).
Great video per always. One thing on my mind is developers writing more apps to use dual screen. As I understand it, that's a big plus with Android 12L. That will take some time naturally.
Not dual screen but large screens. This can result in aps becoming more usable on dual screens too as is the case with Android messenger. But that's just good luck that the two panel design of the wide screen matches the location of the black bar in the middle of the Duo.
Overall, I am very happy with the update. There are little glitches coming up who are strange (like not possible to charge or Pen menu disappears) but after a restart everything is fine again. So, again, overall, very cool!
I was honestly expecting this update to be very unstable, but I still went for it. I'm glad I was wrong and everything still works fine. My duo has been great since I removed the bumpers (I sill don't understand why they break the sensors or whatever) but of course now I dropped it and has a crack on the outside 😥It was in phone mode so I'm happy neither of the screen broke. Great video as always. I still hate the pull down search and the auto rotate which I also have turned off most of the time. I just wished the launches was more customizable or that Nova Launcher worked on the Duo 😄
Turn off auto rotate and use "button mapper" app to map rotation switch to the power down button. You can easily switch to landscape for when you need it but have the confidence of knowing it won't automatically rotate. Shane has a video on it. It works great on my original Duo.
I'm having a hard time visualizing our perhaps understanding the value added of the 12L Taskbar when the floating icon tray (Taskbar? ) that exists for the duo 2 works so well.... I do wish I could throw more than 6 objects in the existing tray, aside from grouping, but I digress.
Still no update push to this ATT user as of Oct 31. Things I was hoping for: - Swipe down anywhere on the screen for notifications. - Fix the slowness and buggyness of portrait to landscape and back - Stop randomly turning off one of my screens when I'm not even touching it. Full time surface duo user for 1 1/2 years. I love the concept of this phone and have not been able to find a replacement to switch to due to high use of the 2 screens. I daily want to break this phone in half and do not recommend to anyone lol. Hoping to see if this update changes my mind.
I think some are a little disappointed (me included) because functionally not much has improved in 2 years. First it was much needed bug fixes and this update adds a visual overhaul. But I'd like to see some new functionality. I'm not expecting Samsung level of extra features, however, simple example: the launcher is a stripped down version of Arrow / Microsoft launcher. A launcher made as a side project by MS. It has tons of cool features as a seperate app, none of which are available on Duo. Where is my customized swipe down action?
@@scaryifliteral the Microsoft launcher is quite robust so many featured I'd like to see are included it in already (e.g. Customizable app icons, swipe gestures, expendable dock). But in addition to that I wouldn't mind having double tap to wake, customizable side swipe gestures (like good locks), customizable app switcher (big Duo screen could easily show 6 aps at once), lock screen customization and clone apps functionality (in particular for WhatsApp). Most of those are Samsung features because that's the Android I'm familiar with but I'm sure there is plenty of good stuff from other OEMs. Just anything beyond stock Android would already spice up the experience a bit.
Issues for me. I have found my touch screen response has become much worse. After sound delays can take seconds such as closing the lid and then hearing the sound lock 3 or 4 seconds later. Flash light now has a habit of turning ing itself on 50/50 when closing the device. Crashing of programs more frequently. Still some apps that I cannot use from the play store on my duo2. Would like to see the ability to add more icons at the bottom menu and far more customisation. I feel its a nice improvement overall BUT with a huge mixed bag of issues that has worsened for myself. I guess will see as it goes forward.
Hello Sha ne, great channel, thank you....i upgraded my dual 2 to 12L...i have a question a floating windows appeared on my screen.....there is a PC and phone icon and a zoom app, how do i remove it? modify this window? I am clueless.....thank you.
I didn't have an issue with it previously but it now the previous software looks well out of date compared to the new update to 12L. It is like a brand new device
While the touch response was hugely improved, in still getting a lot of choppiness and almost like thermal throttling. The ui just grinds to a halt. My device is probably broken but with my best buy plan, they don't repair but rather they replace and while the phone is out of stock I'm sol.
The one issue I started having after the update was with my Amazon music app while using my MS BT headphones, stared skipping a little and or randomly stopped playing the music. So I removed my the device from my BT list using the forget option. I restarted my phone and repaired my MS BT headset. Seems to have fixed the issue.
New Duo user I have the first gen. My duo is working better. Great battery life. Very smooth. Not sure what is the problem is, but I have not seen any of this. I have a Pen 2 and all functions are working. Some people just need to complain.
Great video as always. I’ll be very interested to see if android 12 L does anything for absent otherwise display weirdly. For example, Instagram I wonder if it has any improved formatting on this version of android for the surface duo
hey shane have you seen or heard of any issues with 12 L update? a couple days after update my phone app has stopped working and cant get calls anymore or make them. best buy is saying i may have to wait for replacement device 😬
Only glitch I've seen so far on Duo 2 is that the time would not display in the Glance bar when the power button was pressed. After a reset, things are back to normal again.
Dude. Keep it fun and interesting like you do. If you're excited allow that to come through in your vids. Don't go changing just to try and make some people happy because then there will be others who aren't happy. You will never be able satisfy everyone and it's not your job to do so. Be who you are, and do what you do. After all, that's the reason people started watching you in the 1st place.
I think at the very least people were thinking they would theme Microsoft applications with the color of the wallpaper. People have been wondering why the entire time the launcher for the Duo lacks any kind of customization, why did it take two OS upgrades to receive something as simple as return to home animations for apps? First generation product or not, it just kind of feels lazy.
The only thing I didn't like is because I set my display to "larger" now when I open the Duo one to just check on notifications, I can't see them because all I get is pretty rounded squares for some reason. Even opening the Duo up completely, there is no way to read my notifications without opening the relevant app - and that does annoy me.
Shower thought: We are basically running a free trial version of Microsoft Launcher except MS forgot to include a button that lets us upgrade to the full version.
My Duo seems to be performing well with 2 minor issues. 1- the auto rotate function us painstakingly slow, and 2-every so often, my home screen becomes non responsive till I shut the screen off and turn back on. This does not happen very often though. Other than that, it's running fine. Certainly not up to par with my galaxy s21 ultra, but I'm not unhappy.
For anybody that has the narrow pull down notification issue - check to see what your font and display settings are at. Large works for both. If you go to largest - it will wreck your notification pull down. I have to leave mine at large on both to make Verizon message plus think the SD2 is a phone instead of a tablet.
With the end of support coming next September (according to Microsoft website) would this still be a good phone? Found a new one on eBay for less than $400, good deal?
A good phone doesn't become bad the moment it stops getting updates. It will potentially become unsecure, but that's something that you'll have to determine how important it is to you.
I've noticed over the past week that the phone app is failing very regularly, can't. receive or make calls, needs a reboot to fix. desperately need an update to fix this.
I have a lot of problems and bugs with android 12. Do you know how I can return to previous version? This is so bad, it remind me the problems with surface duo 1.
Still waiting for my warranty replacement from Microsoft sure hope they see the issue as a manufacturing defect. Sure do miss my Duo... I do not miss using my old s10e... life is difficult without two screens.
Another annoying bug I came across is text messages in the notification's menu. When I receive a text message in my notification's menu, I press on the message and for some reason, the app opens in the background, but my notification menu won't go away. Also, the weather app has been freezing my phone for some reason.. Not sure what's going on there. I just removed the app entirely
Ran into something weird: my clock seemed to have frozen when I opened the app at 6.53 when I awoke of my own accord. Decided to doze off and wait for my 7.20 alarm but that didn't Come and when I checked at 7.39 the notification bar clock was at 6.53 and the clock widget on main screen as well, and when I opened the clock app it changed to current time but notification bar was stll 6.53. Rebooted the Duo2 and everythinv was fine, delayed notification snd messages coming in. Weird!
Funny enough I just fixed the search function today. I went to Display > Home Screen > Search and changed the browser and search engine back and forth, then restarted the Duo and the search function worked again.
I just bought a duo and would like to update to 12 but when I try it says it's up to date even while showing its running 11. Any idea why it won't let me update. New to Android. Thx
Is there any way to FORCE the update to 12L? I keep on checking, but I'm told that I am up-to-date with Android 11. Is there someplace I can download the official Microsoft version for the original Surface Duo? Or am I forced to wait my turn for Microsoft to let me know it's my turn to upgrade?
@@scaryifliteral It WAS locked to ATT, but (don't ASK the hassles I went through between ATT & MS to FINALLY get it unlocked! -- now it is on T-Mobile). Anyway, I just got the 2.6 Gig download, and it now DOES show Android 12 (not 12L). It seems to work fine, but some people have said that their phone now LOOKS more like Windows. But mine doesn't LOOK any differently. Is there something I need to do to get this visual change (like some change in the Launcher)? Thanks for taking time to respond. Regards. I'm back on Edge now lol. Edge didn't play well on the Fold and I hate using different browsers on different devices so I had to switch them all. Firefox was giving me problems on desktop though, yeah, back on edge for now.
Still don't have the update. I guess it comes through ATT. Wondering if they are holding onto it in order to add their BS, or if they are thinking they won't push the update through... Anyone have ATT and got the update yet? One bug I see on mine every day, making me reboot, is leaving the device folded completely open, and then turning it on and off throughout the day. Eventually after 5-15 times of doing that, when I turn it on I only get the clock down the right side of the screen and it won't respond to touch unless I close and open the device. It will continue to do this every time until I reboot. Wonder if that is fixed, or if there's a known way to configure the device to make it not happen.
As far as I understand, ATT updates are always much later than the unlocked version updates. I also have the Surface Duo 1 ATT locked version, and yeah still suffer from several bugs. The main one for me is the back screen activating while I'm in 'phone mode.' So often, the back screen will turn on as if the duo is in dual screen mode and my front screen won't respond correctly because the backscreen is feeling my fingers on the rear screen. I always have to open to dual screen and fold back again to reactivate the single screen mode.
Overall very pleased with 12L. Only glitch I still can't figure out, and it's very possible I'm just missing it, but I can no longer seem to keep my duo 2 unlocked through the presence of a trust agent where I was able to before. Have to use pin or biometric credentials to unlock every time I've closed the device. Anyone?

12L for it is like an initial launch of a good package.... just acceptable. 12L is primarily bells n whistles in the visual dept. and only slightly less "bi-polar" Not quite wife/husband material but still have hopes.
If you think sharing screen between you and phone 50-50 is a good viewing experience, it is not. You can minimize your camera view to a small box or circle. Sharing screen and shrinking it down to half is not really good viewing experience. This applies to all your videos.
@Shane Craig I can understand @Harsh's opinion on your desicion. However, I would like to add that this style you chose seems very Duo-esque and therefore fits very well for discussions about the Duo devices. So, don't listen to the haters. My prediction is that @Harsh will one day use a duo and play one of your videos. Then, the realization of your artistic Duo-istic style will be given a nod of respect. Keep doing a good job!

I hardly ever use my surface duo any longer. But after the update to android 12L it’s finally a good device now.
Great observations as usual. BTW turning off dark mode provides brighter (non-pastel) accent color choices.

Shane, the furthest left widget panel has a search bar that still works with google.

The phone used to literally crash loop in certain locations (some tower configuration thing?), and that appears to be gone.
Overall agree that it's great (missed the poll). Still not quite perfect (touchscreen still occasionally unresponsive for several seconds, it will now consistently fail to unlock for a few seconds right after pressing the power button), but I eventually bought for the consistent support and am happy to see it continue.
Shane are you on Beta? I didn’t get that scrolling screenshot “capture more” option!? I have also been getting this weird animation of black arc that moves from the centre of the screen to the outside when I fingerprint unlock. It’s an animation because when i turn animations off it stops doing it (thankfully because at first I thought it was hardware).

One thing on my mind is developers writing more apps to use dual screen. As I understand it, that's a big plus with Android 12L. That will take some time naturally.
Not dual screen but large screens. This can result in aps becoming more usable on dual screens too as is the case with Android messenger. But that's just good luck that the two panel design of the wide screen matches the location of the black bar in the middle of the Duo.
Overall, I am very happy with the update. There are little glitches coming up who are strange (like not possible to charge or Pen menu disappears) but after a restart everything is fine again. So, again, overall, very cool!
I was honestly expecting this update to be very unstable, but I still went for it. I'm glad I was wrong and everything still works fine. My duo has been great since I removed the bumpers (I sill don't understand why they break the sensors or whatever) but of course now I dropped it and has a crack on the outside 😥It was in phone mode so I'm happy neither of the screen broke. Great video as always. I still hate the pull down search and the auto rotate which I also have turned off most of the time. I just wished the launches was more customizable or that Nova Launcher worked on the Duo 😄
Turn off auto rotate and use "button mapper" app to map rotation switch to the power down button. You can easily switch to landscape for when you need it but have the confidence of knowing it won't automatically rotate. Shane has a video on it. It works great on my original Duo.
Happy with the update. I only think Microsoft should have included the 12L Taskbar. I really don't understand why MS left it out
I'm having a hard time visualizing our perhaps understanding the value added of the 12L Taskbar when the floating icon tray (Taskbar? ) that exists for the duo 2 works so well.... I do wish I could throw more than 6 objects in the existing tray, aside from grouping, but I digress.

Still no update push to this ATT user as of Oct 31. Things I was hoping for:
- Swipe down anywhere on the screen for notifications.
- Fix the slowness and buggyness of portrait to landscape and back
- Stop randomly turning off one of my screens when I'm not even touching it.
Full time surface duo user for 1 1/2 years. I love the concept of this phone and have not been able to find a replacement to switch to due to high use of the 2 screens. I daily want to break this phone in half and do not recommend to anyone lol. Hoping to see if this update changes my mind.
I think some are a little disappointed (me included) because functionally not much has improved in 2 years. First it was much needed bug fixes and this update adds a visual overhaul. But I'd like to see some new functionality. I'm not expecting Samsung level of extra features, however, simple example: the launcher is a stripped down version of Arrow / Microsoft launcher. A launcher made as a side project by MS. It has tons of cool features as a seperate app, none of which are available on Duo. Where is my customized swipe down action?
Besides the launcher, what functionality are you looking for?

@@scaryifliteral the Microsoft launcher is quite robust so many featured I'd like to see are included it in already (e.g. Customizable app icons, swipe gestures, expendable dock). But in addition to that I wouldn't mind having double tap to wake, customizable side swipe gestures (like good locks), customizable app switcher (big Duo screen could easily show 6 aps at once), lock screen customization and clone apps functionality (in particular for WhatsApp). Most of those are Samsung features because that's the Android I'm familiar with but I'm sure there is plenty of good stuff from other OEMs. Just anything beyond stock Android would already spice up the experience a bit.
Really happy with the update. Big thumbs up for Microsoft here.

Issues for me. I have found my touch screen response has become much worse. After sound delays can take seconds such as closing the lid and then hearing the sound lock 3 or 4 seconds later. Flash light now has a habit of turning ing itself on 50/50 when closing the device. Crashing of programs more frequently. Still some apps that I cannot use from the play store on my duo2. Would like to see the ability to add more icons at the bottom menu and far more customisation.
I feel its a nice improvement overall BUT with a huge mixed bag of issues that has worsened for myself. I guess will see as it goes forward.

I didn't have an issue with it previously but it now the previous software looks well out of date compared to the new update to 12L. It is like a brand new device
While the touch response was hugely improved, in still getting a lot of choppiness and almost like thermal throttling. The ui just grinds to a halt. My device is probably broken but with my best buy plan, they don't repair but rather they replace and while the phone is out of stock I'm sol.
The one issue I started having after the update was with my Amazon music app while using my MS BT headphones, stared skipping a little and or randomly stopped playing the music.
So I removed my the device from my BT list using the forget option. I restarted my phone and repaired my MS BT headset. Seems to have fixed the issue.
New Duo user I have the first gen. My duo is working better. Great battery life. Very smooth. Not sure what is the problem is, but I have not seen any of this. I have a Pen 2 and all functions are working. Some people just need to complain.
Great video as always. I’ll be very interested to see if android 12 L does anything for absent otherwise display weirdly. For example, Instagram I wonder if it has any improved formatting on this version of android for the surface duo

hey shane have you seen or heard of any issues with 12 L update? a couple days after update my phone app has stopped working and cant get calls anymore or make them. best buy is saying i may have to wait for replacement device 😬

Only glitch I've seen so far on Duo 2 is that the time would not display in the Glance bar when the power button was pressed. After a reset, things are back to normal again.
Dude. Keep it fun and interesting like you do. If you're excited allow that to come through in your vids. Don't go changing just to try and make some people happy because then there will be others who aren't happy. You will never be able satisfy everyone and it's not your job to do so. Be who you are, and do what you do. After all, that's the reason people started watching you in the 1st place.
I think at the very least people were thinking they would theme Microsoft applications with the color of the wallpaper. People have been wondering why the entire time the launcher for the Duo lacks any kind of customization, why did it take two OS upgrades to receive something as simple as return to home animations for apps? First generation product or not, it just kind of feels lazy.
The only thing I didn't like is because I set my display to "larger" now when I open the Duo one to just check on notifications, I can't see them because all I get is pretty rounded squares for some reason. Even opening the Duo up completely, there is no way to read my notifications without opening the relevant app - and that does annoy me.
Interesting. They must have somehow overlooked this. Really hope that gets fixed soon.
Shower thought: We are basically running a free trial version of Microsoft Launcher except MS forgot to include a button that lets us upgrade to the full version.
My Duo seems to be performing well with 2 minor issues. 1- the auto rotate function us painstakingly slow, and 2-every so often, my home screen becomes non responsive till I shut the screen off and turn back on. This does not happen very often though. Other than that, it's running fine. Certainly not up to par with my galaxy s21 ultra, but I'm not unhappy.
I will say battery life on standby has improved
For anybody that has the narrow pull down notification issue - check to see what your font and display settings are at. Large works for both. If you go to largest - it will wreck your notification pull down. I have to leave mine at large on both to make Verizon message plus think the SD2 is a phone instead of a tablet.

A good phone doesn't become bad the moment it stops getting updates. It will potentially become unsecure, but that's something that you'll have to determine how important it is to you.
I've noticed over the past week that the phone app is failing very regularly, can't. receive or make calls, needs a reboot to fix. desperately need an update to fix this.

Another annoying bug I came across is text messages in the notification's menu. When I receive a text message in my notification's menu, I press on the message and for some reason, the app opens in the background, but my notification menu won't go away. Also, the weather app has been freezing my phone for some reason.. Not sure what's going on there. I just removed the app entirely
Ran into something weird: my clock seemed to have frozen when I opened the app at 6.53 when I awoke of my own accord. Decided to doze off and wait for my 7.20 alarm but that didn't Come and when I checked at 7.39 the notification bar clock was at 6.53 and the clock widget on main screen as well, and when I opened the clock app it changed to current time but notification bar was stll 6.53. Rebooted the Duo2 and everythinv was fine, delayed notification snd messages coming in. Weird!
Funny enough I just fixed the search function today. I went to Display > Home Screen > Search and changed the browser and search engine back and forth, then restarted the Duo and the search function worked again.
I installed the beta build of the launcher and it worked for a few hours before breaking again lol
I just bought a duo and would like to update to 12 but when I try it says it's up to date even while showing its running 11. Any idea why it won't let me update. New to Android. Thx
Is there any way to FORCE the update to 12L? I keep on checking, but I'm told that I am up-to-date with Android 11. Is there someplace I can download the official Microsoft version for the original Surface Duo? Or am I forced to wait my turn for Microsoft to let me know it's my turn to upgrade?

@@scaryifliteral It WAS locked to ATT, but (don't ASK the hassles I went through between ATT & MS to FINALLY get it unlocked! -- now it is on T-Mobile). Anyway, I just got the 2.6 Gig download, and it now DOES show Android 12 (not 12L). It seems to work fine, but some people have said that their phone now LOOKS more like Windows. But mine doesn't LOOK any differently. Is there something I need to do to get this visual change (like some change in the Launcher)? Thanks for taking time to respond. Regards. I'm not sure the update changes that math much. If you need a camera and NFC, get Duo 2.

12L hella only bug is I hate side volume screen thing and wish could fully disable and volume buttons can you disable them no settings anywhere
There's also a frame rate display built into developer options.
I have yet to find any usage that will slow it down, but I dont game either.
when the icons stick to one side is an issue, mainly because when it does that on my duo2 they don't work either and that tells me time to reboot..lol

Right. Samsung has been adding features for years and years, plus a lot of 12L features don't make sense on Duo.

Still don't have the update. I guess it comes through ATT. Wondering if they are holding onto it in order to add their BS, or if they are thinking they won't push the update through... Anyone have ATT and got the update yet? One bug I see on mine every day, making me reboot, is leaving the device folded completely open, and then turning it on and off throughout the day. Eventually after 5-15 times of doing that, when I turn it on I only get the clock down the right side of the screen and it won't respond to touch unless I close and open the device. It will continue to do this every time until I reboot. Wonder if that is fixed, or if there's a known way to configure the device to make it not happen.
As far as I understand, ATT updates are always much later than the unlocked version updates. I also have the Surface Duo 1 ATT locked version, and yeah still suffer from several bugs. The main one for me is the back screen activating while I'm in 'phone mode.' So often, the back screen will turn on as if the duo is in dual screen mode and my front screen won't respond correctly because the backscreen is feeling my fingers on the rear screen. I always have to open to dual screen and fold back again to reactivate the single screen mode.

Overall very pleased with 12L. Only glitch I still can't figure out, and it's very possible I'm just missing it, but I can no longer seem to keep my duo 2 unlocked through the presence of a trust agent where I was able to before. Have to use pin or biometric credentials to unlock every time I've closed the device. Anyone?
I actually just started using smart lock funnily enough. It's attached to my watch and it is working fine here.

Guys when using this duo 1st gen fir phone calls I find that it is it loud enough when trying to hear the other person volume completely up is this normal guys if it is that's not good and my hearing is very good well I hope it is anyhow lol?
12L for it is like an initial launch of a good package.... just acceptable. 12L is primarily bells n whistles in the visual dept. and only slightly less "bi-polar" Not quite wife/husband material but still have hopes.

If you think sharing screen between you and phone 50-50 is a good viewing experience, it is not. You can minimize your camera view to a small box or circle. Sharing screen and shrinking it down to half is not really good viewing experience.
