As you may know I’ve fitted the st170 engine and 6 speed box in mine… they’re a very similar engine, I’ve tried to be as detailed as I can in my insta with how I’ve overcome a few problems.. too many to list here! 😉 keep up the good work.. there’ll be many more obstacles!
In the US, every Duratec powered Focus with a manual transmission has the MTX75. They are pretty easy to find. The 5 and 6 speed transmissions from the Mazda 3 also bolt up.
Old Fords are like a LEGO set! Every engine will fit every gearbox and drive shaft. The Mk2 Mondeo in 1998 still has either Silver or Blacktop but all the bolt patterns are the same for RWD or FWD I built a ZVH turbo engine (1.8 zetec bottom end with CVH head) and all patterns are the same. When the Duratec came out they used Mazda engines and gearboxes. But when the Zetec SE came out (Yamaha engine) they used the old RWD T9 pattern!
@cossiemk2 well it is the first time I've done this kind of swop so it's been a voyage of discovery 😂. Originally i thought it was an easy task just an engine and a gearbox bolt them together and that's it done but then I found out about the baffel plate, the driveshafts, the brake servo, injection system, fuel tank etc etc
They did a mk3 Mondeo with Mazda derived Duratec engine and 5spd gearbox. I have one. 2005 2.0i "Zetec" (not to confuse things further, Zetec being a trim level on the mk3!!).
No offence but your out of your depth a bit here, it’s a Ford engine mazda adapted. Mtx75 box fits, fiesta st150 ib5+ box fits, focus mk2 2.0 duratec box fits. Any box with a bell housing adapter plate for £2-300 quid A bit more homework would have saved you a lot of hassle. I’m no mechanic but know these things. Duratec 1.8 2.0 2.3 2.5 Ford engine 2.5 has vvt Mazda 1.8 2.0 2.3 have also got vvt. A lot of internal differences/ dipstick location inlets etc. Major thing you should have checked. Duratec has a chain Zetec has a belt Hope this helps a bit to someone
Are the 'black top' engines cast aluminium or engineering plastic? Biggest problem I have with Ford is they use the same name for vastly different engines (guess that's the problem you found as well?) I've got a 2004 Mazda B2300 but no idea what actual engine is in it, I know it's Ford and maybe Ztec? If I was still in Britain it wouldn't be a problem as I knew several people working at the Bridgend Engine plant (but I think that's also been closed down now?)
@@mike_themechanic That's good to know, 'plastic' seems to distort and leak oil into spark plug recess. I've worked on motorcycles about 50 years and never liked engineered plastics on engines, even alloy on the Honda 750/900 (and various Kawasaki's, Yamaha's and Suzuki's) allowed leaks around plugs when the seals were not in right or age hardened.
This is the confusion - the st150 is definitely duratec 2.0 and definitely ib5... I wonder if there are multiple variations of the duratec blocks with different bell housing bolts no one talks about...
@@mike_themechanic Thanks for your answer. I am thinking about using the engine stock including injection and everything so I would need the loom, keyfob, instrument cluster. I suppose I should try to get a complete scrap car. What is your plan to get the fiesta through Swedish mot/besiktning? Keep up the good work.
That was my plan from the beginning but it's alot more work than I was planning on. I've gone with an ecu from Motorsport electronics and a set of bike carbs so it's only 3 additional wires to the loom plug and play for the rest.
@@mike_themechanic I just watched a RUclips video about the duratech and realized that my plan is not possible. The intake manifold is not going to work in a rwd escort and since its made from plastic its not possible to work on. I will have to rethink this. Getting scrap engines etc in the uk is much cheaper than in sweden as im sure you know but i could still use/modify the standard exhaust manifold. I suppose it could be possible to build an inlet as long as i use the thottlebody...
There are people in the UK that build rwd escorts but I'm not sure which engine they use. I got my engine from a scrap yard in Sweden but it didn't come with everything so its took me time to find all the extra parts I need to fit it in. I would have liked an st170 but they are crazy priced in Sweden and its only the head that different to the engine I already have.
The Mazda version is arguably better than the Duratec, Ford cheaped out on the bottom end components, namely the pistons and rods, to get 300bhp from the Duratec takes a lot of work, not so much with the MZR.
I had two mazda 6 mps's, both enginges went kapoot. Only found out after the second one shit itself that ford may have had something yo do with the soft componants in the 2.3 four cylinder dohc 16 valve single turbo engine.
The zetec is better engine the duratecs drink oil and been known to knock bottom.end out I have seen zetecs with over 200000 miles and still running well the fiesta st 150 uses the 2.0 litre Duratec engine and uses a 5 speed box
The st150 uses a fiesta gearbox it's not the original mk1-5 chassis but it's a 5 speed and smaller
Eccentric timing belt tensioner from a nissan VG33 SOHC. I cut the standoff down 12mm and now have a proper eccentric timing belt tensioner
Nice hack 👍👍
Duratech are mad in old escorts wid alot of money thrown at it wid quad throttle bodies sound awesome

True.

They are cast iron blocks with alu cylinder heads.
