Is that the large buffer brush your talking about? The first black one as ive tried to google to purchase it and it looks like a different slimmer kind of brush so confused!
I love that when you express why a brush is needed it's never like "oh this is a really good brush". You actually explain in detail what it's good for. Also so grateful that you pointed out which ones are particularly useful or unnecessary in terms of hooded eyes. So many people go by a one size fits all type of thought process, which is super disheartening when you have hooded eyes and you use the product or brush or whatever and it just looks awful. You've inspired me to keep going and keep trying new ways to use makeup in terms of my hooded eyes 😭
@@RobertWelsh im not sure what kind of eyes i have is there a possible way u could tell me and help with tips and tricks? Im just starting out in makeup world and could really help thank you so much and my daughter and i love to watch your videos all day long lol
ME TOO!!! My cheaper brushes from like amazon seem like they’re better than my Morphe brushes. Morphe is the most expensive brand I have because I’m new at makeup, though. I’m looking into buying new ones but have no idea what to buy! Sigma seems so expensive 😭 but those are the most frequently raved about that I’ve seen and heard
Thanks Robert, this is such a useful video, for beginners especially, but also for novice mua’s who have loads of brushes but aren’t 100% sure how to use some of them. It has given me some new ways of using brushes too 🙂 I can’t wait to see if you do a face brushes video next!!?? Also a brand you must try is sigma. Their brushes really are fantastic and they wash incredibly x
God it's like you read my mind. I discovered you last night and started realizing the next thing I needed to boost my eyeshadow skills were brushes but I didn't know where to start! ♥️
honestly you are so amazing, all my friends used to tell that im doing my makeup wrong or i should bake or use different brushes. after finding you i realized im doing a lot of things right and all the bs my friends told me are just based on ig makeup gurus and not real makeup artists. thanks for making these vids!
Omg now that's what I call a true MUA. You seem so much more professional than all these so called "make up gurus" and you actually know what you're talking about. I'm literally binge watching your videos and can't wait for more!
THIS IS THE VIDEO I NEEDED WHEN I WAS A BEGINNER! 😭😭😭😭 YOUR TECHNIQUES HAVE CHANGED THE OUTCOME OF MY MAKEUP FOR THE BETTER! THANK YOU, THANK YOU! 💖 I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING MORE FROM YOU! 🤗
The real hair Vs artificial hair brush is super informative, not only would you want to know how to use each brush but also knowing what products (liquid/powder) are best suited for the brush type goes hand in hand with the quality of the end look, I'm definitely going to refer to this video whenever I'm detailing🖤
I call my eye makeup brushes the flat one, the pointy floofy one, and the floofier one. I am so grateful that you're teaching me about brushes because I obviously have no idea what's going on 😂
I love the way your voice rises when you are excited about a concept. It truly shows how committed you are to your craft. I have an eclectic group of brushes at the moment because I had a serious addiction and had to stop myself. I just love brushes.
This is so helpful, Robert. I just bought a basic eye brush set and I’m so relieved to see that your “essentials” are the ones included in the set. I would appreciate a face brush version. Thank you so much!
I was thrilled to see I have quite a few of these brushes. I also picked up on you saying that real hair brushes pick up more pigment, so I have some old brushes that are real hair and I love them! Thanks 😊
this was genuinely so helpful! i feel like it's all well and good having technique videos but if you don't know what brushes to use it doesn't really make a big difference if you're using the right technique. a face brush version of this would be very helpful! thank you so much for your videos robert!
I absolutely ADORE how you nearly lose your breath describing each brush's function. THIS. This is the passion that YT has been lacking. Thank you for sharing your passion and knowledge with us. We LOVE you
You have easily become one of my favorite channels to watch! You’re informative, drama-free, and have such an easy going personality. It’s to the point where I can’t miss any of your videos! Could you make a video of placement of product for different face shapes? Like I have a super round face and I’m not sure where to put my blush or bronzer exactly without making my face even more round.
My mum before this video: why do you have soo many eye brushes? What do you need them for?? My mum after this video: ohh, i think you need some more brushes 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yessss!!! I use those little applicators all the time!! I bought a 200 pack for like $5 because I use them for a lot of shimmer, Metalic, foiled shadows as well as my pigments. Since jeffree Star is one of the only brands you can pick up is Metalic shadows with a brush & not have to wet them, these work perfect of every other brand lol I don’t mind using a finger on myself, but I don’t like going in with my finger on clients, plus you can get so much more precision with these. I love how they are double ended as well so if you wanted to blend a few shimmers on the lid in a gradient, then you’re not using multiple brushes. Or even if you had a couple pigments or glitter to apply you use one side for the glitter glue & the other 3 sides for whatever else. Who knew I’d be buying these in bulk when back in the early 2000s I always just tossed them cuz I thought they were worthless!! 😂
Seriously the best make-up channel on RUclips. It’s saved my make-up sanity. Thanks for mentioning brushes for hooded eyes! I’m anticipating this channel will get to 1M subs in 2020
Thank you. I know you must hear that a lot but as just a regular person who just wants to look nice, these "here are the basics and here is what to do with them" type videos are so useful for me. Your work and your time are appreciated.
Thank you!! I really needed this. I feel I have all of these type of brushes and use them all wrong. I just got some Wayne Goss brushes for the face and just don't know what to do with them. If you are doing a face brush tutorial, well... I am gonna jump on that for sure!!! YOU ARE THE BEST!!!
I love my MAC 217 blending brush. I've been using it for 7+ years now. I've had a few of those "unnecessary" brushes all this time and they were not used at all because I didn't know what they were for until you mentioned them. Many thanks for the helpful tips!
I’m saving this to reference over and over again. I’m old (ish) but new to makeup, brushes et al. So yes please, a face brush explanation too please. 🌸💕🌸. Double pleases lol, BritCanaYank here, so polite haha.
Yasssss bring the old technique of using brushes. I remember my uncle (he's gay), he's a make ip artist especially for pageants . He did my make for a pageant and he just use 4 brushes including my lip. Damn he's really good. And really knows how to do make up unlike some influencers, they just copying each other. Let's give this professional make up artist a big thumbs up!
I know this is old; but i've been creeping around your channel for a couple of years, i'm just gonna go ahead and subscribe. I find your content very useful to me. Thanks!
I have bought so many brushes and just really wondered if I needed them all. Now I know just the brushes that are necessary to get the look I'm wanting. Thank you Robert once again you have really given me great advice. Love your channel.
I'm so glad I found someone who wants to teach techniques etc, was feeling a bit lost with all the random grwm and reviews with no tutorials in sight for ages... keep up the good work Robert!
Yey! 150k subscribers! Congrats. I just want to say how happy I am that you've taken youtube seriously lately(saw your vid with james). I really enjoy watching your vids. Such good vibes. 🤗🥰🖤🖤🖤
I finally understand what everybody means when they comment on a video and say "it's like you read my mind"... THIS IS JUST WHAT I NEEDED. Been browsing eyeshadow brushes on yesstyle (since there's another sale happening right now) and just didn't understand what eyeshadow brush did what. So THANK YOU ❤
I love the way Robert talks/speaks Dude, he could do a video about windows and I would listen! Keep up the great work. You should do a video of you doing someone's makeup, Boys, girls, round face, long face whatever

Your channel is what "beauty gurus" are supposed to be. The entire reason anyone of them gained any popularity, except you're actually experienced, talented, and a great teacher.
I love your videos! You are such a breath of fresh air outside of all of the beauty community drama that’s always going on. Not that I don’t I don’t love them as well but you just bring new life to make up and you tube!
Robert: I just wanted to tell you how much I love your tutorials. I have learned so much. I used to get a lot of "cakiness"( not sure about the spelling) under my eyes. I don't use foundation under the eyes anymore and use your concealer method and I cant even tell you how much that helped me out. I'm also obsessed with your ghost stories! thank you so much for all your help! Be blessed!
Yes! I have all the must-haves (in other brands, but still)! Phew! I tend to buy brush sets, so I have all sorts that I don't think I ever use, think I might use this as a guide to weed out the necessary from pointless. Thank you :D
I have a lot of brushes. Collected over 20 years. Lol! I'm 38. I find them all useful because when my favourites are dirty or wet I'm forced to use the other ones I love how they all give different finishes.
My Morphe M507 is one of my essentials! It's a medium/small blending brush and it's perfect for my hooded eyes. I'm obsessed with it, lol. Also, my NYX pencil brush. I love how pointed it is💗 Edit: btw, I just found you a few weeks ago and I am so glad I did! You're absolutely amazing! Keep doing you💗
Yes please!!! MORE favorite brush videos! Definitely for face/body application. I especially love how you explain the techniques you use with each one. I'm a working MUA and always love learning new techniques 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
I can’t stress enough how much you have been desperately needed in the RUclips makeup scene. I had stopped watching makeup “beauty gurus” all together because; 1) I was so tired of feeling like I was watching the home shopping network. 2) I felt like none of the “techniques” ever applied to me in the real world. I’m a mother to two small children. Ain’t nobody got time for that! I just want to feel pretty and look like I give a shit. Thank you so much for everything you do! It is greatly needed! Suggestion for video: “critique my technique” since you try to help by answering questions, maybe you could help by looking at the way people apply their makeup. I don’t know, just a thought.
Tax returns are coming up and I always treat myself to a little something, and this year it is brushes so this video couldn't have come at a better time! You are seriously my favorite RUclipsr, so glad I found you! 🖤
ROBERT!!! You are a GOD! God, I say! I can not stress enough how long I have been looking for videos and advice on brushes like this. You are a life saver! I’m so glad I found your channel! Thank you so very much 🙏🙏😍🤩
I’ve learned more in the two weeks since I’ve found your videos than in the previous (nearly) 44 years of my life. You are performing an amazing service and I’ve been bingeing your videos like crazy. Better late than never, I guess
This was a year ago but I wanted to say that this has been VERY informational. I do crazy bright make up but have no real... Knowledge about make up. I just sort of copy what I've seen other people do throughout the years. I haven't been subscribed long but I'm currently sifting through your videos looking for the most informational one I can find. I hope in the future you'll do more videos like this (and see your have been already). I haven't found one, if it exists, but a video on face brushes as well would be amazing. Thanks for being your beautiful awesome self. 💕💕
Fat, Fierce and Over Fifty Elizabeth Inman really? It said video published 10sec ago when I wrote my comment. Guess youtube needs a few sec to post it 🤷🏻♂️😂 but you‘re right, it actually doesn‘t matter. But funny anyway, cause usually I am suuuuuuper late to watch
I’m in the process of building my personal kit of brushes and this came AT THE PERFECT TIME! You make me laugh because you are so embarrassed at having an opinion. We watch because we want to know YOUR OPINION! You are so sweet. Please do all “the basics” types of videos that you want. I’m enjoying learning and practicing. These make me very happy! ❤️
A friend of mine is on a trip... And found body glitter on the what should be fresh sheets at the hotel... And is currently somewhere in South America, sleeping on top of the covers because he was so creeped out... I was kidding him, (but really,) glitter lasts forever, and all it takes is one glitter-bitch and now you live with glitter, every day of your life... The glitter never leaves.
Robert you just saved me from buying more brushes just because I thought I needed more but your video made me realize that I've all the necessary brushes, another great video from a great REAL make up artist.
I enjoyed this video so much. So helpful for us makeup lovers who know we have gaps in our knowledge. I don't think your fear of loose glitter is irrational. Once you open up a container, you're finding little bits of it everywhere. That proves that you can't control where it's going to go even if you are careful.
I change my eye look with the seasons so I get to experiment with a lot. Yeah also watch a lot of hooded eye tutorials. Everyone has a different technique. Also tiny brushes. Currently. I'm doing neutral eye with liner. I do a very very tiny line with a MAC210 similar to the morphe 250-1 brush and a tiny flick. I also tightline and do the waterline. I do not line the bottom lash line. I just smudge a brown shadow underneath for evening or leave bare for day time.
I also have very small, partially hooded eyelids and I feel like the only thing that looks good is a matte darker color above the crease on the outer corner with a highlighting color on the inner corner and lid. Everything else kinda makes me look like a raccoon with beady little eyes :/
I really don't understand why you have more subscribers..your very precise an detail an so far the only one that breaks it down that even a beginner could have confidence in doing makeup well ..your awesome its truly your calling
For robert’s viewers: That Charles fox brush that he couldn’t find details for - great dupes for that are the morphe m222, m169, or m138 (and really out of those 3, the first is my fave), but I’m not exactly sure how stiff or loose the bristles really are but all 3 of those have the exact same natural hair bristle shape Also the Charlotte tilbury one I’m guessing is pretty pricey lol. A dupe for that one (if it’s natural hair) morphe m515
I'd love you to do more videos about using brushes. I feel like a lot of people I watch don't really explain how to use different tools. Wear on the brush to pick up product etc.
Ooh I want some Hakuhodo too! I just get overwhelmed with their website even though Hailey from JustBuyTheMakeup broke it down really well. Wish they sold them on Beautylish. They have a small crease brush that would be perfect for my small hooded eyes.
Where have you been all this time⁉️ Not only are you amazing, I find your voice so soothing. I’m so happy you did this video. I would love more videos of your reviewing other gurus make up application. Thank you for bringing me back to you tube!!!💋💋💋
Thank you, Robert, for a really good video on brushes with very clear explanations of what they do and why you want them to do that. Anyone confused about eye brushes should watch this a few times. Okay - I'm a brush geek so don't judge me, Robert said to talk about our favorites. With brushes I have seen the light and that light comes from Japan. There are many fine brush makers in Japan but for me it's Hakuhodo. The much loved J5523 is no joke. It's white goat hair, shaped like a MAC 217 and priced about the same only the 5523 is so much better. The hair is softer, uncut at the tips and the brush is made by hand. The hairs are placed, packed and layered with a lot more precision. It's ability to work with the shadows is also more precise. It's probably the brush I reach for most often. It's been reviewed in videos on RUclips so you can see it for yourselves if you're interested. I don't work for Hakuhodo and I don't make videos, I just love their brushes.
As someone with hooded eyelids I give you my sincerest thanks. I need to use my neglected medium sized blending brushes for eyeshadow application. For years I've been using a large blending brush and my eye looks never come out the way I intended.
I ran out and bought that tiny mykitco brush immediately after this video and it’s the perfect thing for eyeshadow under the eye, which is an element of eye makeup that I always do, but previously never so well.
This video is a life saver!!I just brought sum palettes and I didnt know what brushes to buy nor did I wanted to waste my money on brushes I dont need thank uuuuu love💟💟
THANK YOU! I just found ur channel a few days ago, I've learned so much. Tips I can actually use & incorporate into my makeup routine has made a noticeable difference. I appreciate ur no nonsense style.. It helps that ur easy on the eyes too, so handsome😉.
Robert your channel is helping me so much! I went from dragging my foundations with my HANDS and just using whatever i can find at the drug store...make up and brush wise i would only have a pile of poo that came with a cheap foundation or powder...i am telling u i finally am finding out how to do my makeup! It is so much fun and I am finding that when I am having anxiety or a bad day my favorite things to do are to either start cleaning my house or doing make up or even both at once! Thank you so much for the information I have no interest in listening to beauty guru's talk about how they are going to sue each other while "baking" god i am so glad i did not spend money on baking powders i did not understand what we were doing there but hey here we are now thank u robert!
Hey everyone! I made a mistake in editing! In the blending brushes I call the black transition brush 230 it’s 224!
Would love to know your necessary eyeshadow palettes because I'm on a budget and don't want to get a shit palette by accident 😂

It’s refreshing to see someone show love for the old school applicators. They get the job done! 😛
Nothing packs on product like a dry eye sponge applicator from the 80's. 🤣 🤣 🤣
My Morphe M507 is one of my essentials! It's a medium/small blending brush and it's perfect for my hooded eyes. I'm obsessed with it, lol. Also, my NYX pencil brush. I love how pointed it is💗
Edit: btw, I just found you a few weeks ago and I am so glad I did! You're absolutely amazing! Keep doing you💗
Ooooo I have one NYX brush but I might try some more! 🖤🖤
Yes please!!! MORE favorite brush videos! Definitely for face/body application. I especially love how you explain the techniques you use with each one. I'm a working MUA and always love learning new techniques 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
I just bought the morphe babe faves brush set; and I have hooded eyes so this video is so appreciated 😍🥰
I want to do my cousin her wedding make up, can you do a tutorial on how you do your brides? Love from the netherlands ❤
Sooooo helpful. I like how you showed yourself using the brush as you explained what it was for.
Tax returns are coming up and I always treat myself to a little something, and this year it is brushes so this video couldn't have come at a better time! You are seriously my favorite RUclipsr, so glad I found you! 🖤
Thank you so much! What perfect timing for a tax return! 😝🖤
ROBERT!!! You are a GOD! God, I say! I can not stress enough how long I have been looking for videos and advice on brushes like this. You are a life saver! I’m so glad I found your channel! Thank you so very much 🙏🙏😍🤩
Everything I've wanted!!!! I trust your judgement Robert, I'm about to go on a shopping spree!!!
🖤🖤🖤
I’ve learned more in the two weeks since I’ve found your videos than in the previous (nearly) 44 years of my life. You are performing an amazing service and I’ve been bingeing your videos like crazy. Better late than never, I guess
Yes! Yes! Here early!!! Love brushes they are so underrated!!!
Damn Robert your channel has grown so much so quickly!!! So happy for you, you deserve it!! ☺️
Thank yoooou! 🖤
The liner brush that comes with the L'Oreal gel liner in the pot is perfection!
Never been that fast - yaaas!
Your reply was 44 seconds ago. I clicked the second the announcement came up 🤣🤣🤣. Not that I care about being first but it’s funny!
😝🖤
I just found your channel today and I LOVE YOUR CONTENT that is all
Thank you! 🖤🖤🖤
I enjoyed this video so much. So helpful for us makeup lovers who know we have gaps in our knowledge. I don't think your fear of loose glitter is irrational. Once you open up a container, you're finding little bits of it everywhere. That proves that you can't control where it's going to go even if you are careful.
I AM LEGIT THE SAME WITH THE GLITTER PHOBIA 😱
ME TOO!!. And people putting glitter in an envelope with an invitation!..I scream
I will watch this over and over. Thank you!
So glad you did this, I have hooded eyes and still have trouble. I feel like I do one look really really good, then the rest is......not😶lol
Me at every other beauty youtuber: “BUT SHOW US THE BRUSHESSS”
Thank you Robert for actually teaching us 🖤
so excited, never been this early!
👋🏼 🖤
My absolute favourite brush is a dense blending brush. I can’t live without it.
that eyebrow brush would be good for my babyhairs lol
also I prefer am videos
Yesss! 🖤🖤
I have used a spoolie brush on my baby hairs before. 🤷🏾🤷🏾😂😂 Lol!
I really don't understand why you have more subscribers..your very precise an detail an so far the only one that breaks it down that even a beginner could have confidence in doing makeup well ..your awesome its truly your calling
For robert’s viewers: That Charles fox brush that he couldn’t find details for - great dupes for that are the morphe m222, m169, or m138 (and really out of those 3, the first is my fave), but I’m not exactly sure how stiff or loose the bristles really are but all 3 of those have the exact same natural hair bristle shape
Also the Charlotte tilbury one I’m guessing is pretty pricey lol. A dupe for that one (if it’s natural hair) morphe m515
I'd love you to do more videos about using brushes. I feel like a lot of people I watch don't really explain how to use different tools. Wear on the brush to pick up product etc.
We need to hook you up with Japanese-made brushes 😋 like hakuhodo
Yesssss!! 🖤🖤
Ooh I want some Hakuhodo too! I just get overwhelmed with their website even though Hailey from JustBuyTheMakeup broke it down really well. Wish they sold them on Beautylish. They have a small crease brush that would be perfect for my small hooded eyes.
I love how you showed what each brush did!! So so informative ☺️ I’ve just gone and bought them all
This is easily the most informative brush video I’ve ever watched.
really like how you explain makeup so well. I usually get bored by informative videos but you are so good at keeping it interesting. love🖤
Yes hooded eyes that would be awesome.
🖤🖤🖤🖤
Wow, you are legit giving us amazing, thorough advice. I am officially in love with your channel. Thank you for all the hooded eye recs too!
THANK YOU! I just found ur channel a few days ago, I've learned so much. Tips I can actually use & incorporate into my makeup routine has made a noticeable difference. I appreciate ur no nonsense style.. It helps that ur easy on the eyes too, so handsome😉.
YES PLEASE DO MORE BRUSHES!!!! I always want to buy brushes but I never know what they do or which ones to get, this is was so helpful!!
