Took me way too long to find a video like this. Thank you
I would love to have a proof Morgan. Maybe someday! Thank you for energizing me in that direction!
THANK YOU! Finally someone talks about Morgan PROOF! So difficult to have graded correctly!!!!! Like almost impossible if you’re not known in the business. The dead giveaway is that I think you called it acrylic?? I call it waxy over glaze.. not all have perfect rims but they will be square along with boxy denticles. Higher “hair bumps” than BS. Boxy raised lettering and numbers
Great video Ben. I have always wondered the answer to the question that you posed and answered in this video. I really appreciate showing the details of the rim that explain the difference.
This question has bugged me for years
I searched for a video that explains this different for quite awhile here on your channel but could never find one, then low and behold this one appears in my "recommended " long after I'd given up the search...go figure 🥴
Another great video topic. I've been on the hunt for a nice MS66-MS67 Morgan.
Hmm.. what's one of those worth to you?
Very educational. Thank you
This was one of the better videos I've seen in a long time. I study Coins very often but I feel like you just got my knowledge up way better! Thanks for the schooling Ben! Have a good weekend.
I got 1889 s that looks proof like Morgan
Learn something new about Morgan’s all the time. Man I’d like a Morgan with a proof only designation like the one you showed
Like most, prefer the 98-o over the 1903. The 98-o is gorgeous and looks like a 67. Not sure about the 1903 but that might be the toning. Thanks Ben. Keep up the videos.
That 1903 needs a new case!
The unique "stuff" you find doesn't really last long on either site. Thanks for the great information in your videos. Great education for the new and even experienced collector.
I like the 1898 ms66 and prefer a new shiny look versus toning. Although I don’t like those long cracks. Those proofs are spectacular !

Cool- thanks.
Thanks for teaching about the wire rims I was not aware of any of that but this was a perfect first lesson. So many amazing Morgan silver dollars here lately! Wow!
Thank you. Excellent information.
Awesome details preserved on the reverse of that dime. The 98O is the most attractive of the dollars, but that proof is something that is pretty unique. Great show and tell on the wire rim and denticles.
Very educational my man. I'm armed with knowledge about what a proof Morgan looks like. I have never seen one ever,in person like in a coin shop, cool video 😃👍✌
WOW. Love that proof Morgan. Thanks for all the good information too! 😀👍
Thanks a lot for useful info about wire rim of proof coins.
A great respect for your job!!!
To me it’s quite obvious the difference but I am so used to looking at other coins that it is nice to see it on those. Thank you that was a cool video..
Can you do another in depth video explaining morgan proofs? Seems like your the only one on you tube with a video about them
I better go buy one 😆
Nice Morgans indeed!👍
All my Morgan dollars are ms64 or lower. But I love looking at all your great coins. Thanks
great info ben awesome coins
Some awsome Morgans there hope to have a 67 in my collection one day thanks for sharing
WOWWWZERS Awesome Amazing Morgan's wow
Love the proofs! Great info in the video.
The 1903 just doesn’t have quite enough luster for me to be worthy of a 67. That 66+ is a super solid example though and I wouldn’t bat an eye if it were in a 67 holder 👍
Thanks for information 👍
That 66+ is a knockout, nice depth to the fields and devices. The 67 looks flat by comparison.
Yes! I'd take the 66 any day. That 67 could never get one of those stupid green stickers that confirm the grade. If you switched the grades, I wouldn't bat an eye.
Thank you Ben for sharing those awesome examples of Morgan Dollars . I think the M.S. - 66+ should have got M.S. - 67 .
Hey Ben, I actually have an 1898-O graded MS66 by PCGS and I just checked it and it has the same planchet infirmity as the coin in this video, your 1898-O PCGS MS66+. Maybe a VAM for the year? Just thought I’d share!
Want to thx you iv been looking for a vidoe like this for a while I got a 1886 morgan with the wire rim on the back on one side
Thank you!
Gorgeous proofs Ben! Love both. I am in the market for a proof Seated Half. Still haven't one yet. I love my PR Morgan. Yes they are harsh on them. But rightfully so. Proofs display all of the details. Rubs of the coin really standout as hairlines with the super reflective fields. Anyhow, thanks for sharing!
Hopefully a proof seated half is in our near future!
Think the 98 66+ was way better and overall mutch more pretty. The 92 proof is lovely shiney coin.
I wish someone was tracking toning on coins based on storage conditions, eg 2x2, slab, other and including the general temperature range the
coins might have been stored.
Basically I’m interested in how much toning occurs and how long it takes for toning to occur.
Nice coins you have and I love that blue toning.
👍🏽
Agree on the harsh grade for that proof. You find pr-65s that look worse than that
Great info. Almost as great as that morgan. Thanks
The dime is top shelf stuff..
If i have a Morgan 1879 silver dollar with no CC or O or S no markings then how do i know if it’s considered ‘proof’ whatever that means ??
One giveaway for a proof Morgan for me is how sharp and defined the denticles look. (Edit: I made that comment before I got to the part where you spoke of that very thing)
Hey, but we are speaking the same language!
IMO, the 1898 O looks better than the 1903, even though a half point behind. The proof dollar gets a 62 in my book with a lot of hairlines and the contact marks in the field to the right of Liberty bust, even scratches such as like on her neck.
BEAUTIFUL HIGH QAULITY PIECES! LOVE THE TONERS!🤤😍🤤😍🤤😍
I noticed that the 1903 MS 67 (seems to have a relatively weak strike...esp. noticeable on the week eagle's feathers)...yet it still got the extremely high grade. I read in books and have heard years ago, that if there's a weak strike, even if near perfect cheek/fields, etc, it can never get above a 65. Any comments are appreciated. Thank you.
What would be the simple comparison of PF Morgan and Morgan DMPL?
Second comment, since it is a PF, aren't the standards themselves different for the scale due to how categorically different the type of coin is?
Eagle looked a little strapped for chest feathers for an MS67.
Could you look at a coin for me.. Im trying to figure out if it's proof or prooflike.. it's a 1904 o Morgan dollar
Sorry for the triplepost, but I think they made the proofs at multiple mints! My guess doing a super lowball is 10-20k, which is fair to do considering they've had over a century to be subjected to all sorts of sad fates. They gave these to governors and colleges, so I can imagine a governor not caring for coins doing something like tipping a waitress with it, and it eventually winds up flea marketed to some excited knowitnone old fart who promptly takes it home and wirebrushes it to death. Or there could be some across several campuses stored in boxes, forgotten and just ... waiting.
At any rate, I wonder if 2023's proofs will try to be styled similarly, and if so, how much that will change the price of these old proofs. PLs and DPLs will always have their own market for the reasons you mentioned, as they are somehow far stronger than any proof even made more recently in 90% and each just has that unique character about them, but these proofs will soon have only history on their side instead of overall type rarity. My guess, though, is that the proofs next year (though no doubt sure to be nice) will not at all be like that - I didn't even see these reflecting you, so I don't know if they are more of a satin finish proof like you mentioned, or if these tone well, or even if you just didn't get a good angle, not wanting to accidentally self-dox!
Anyhow, loved the video! Coins deserve to be showed off, so thanks for showing them to us.
On the 03 MS 67, the strike isn't that good. Look at the hair over the ear. Or is that worn dies? With the toning, it's hard to judge the luster.
I’m surprised the 66+ did not get a green bean.
I really wish there were a different term for wire rims on coins. It's the wrong word to describe a sharp rim. A wire rim means that the rim is shaped like a wire, which is a thin, round surface, not a sharp edge with sharp sides.
Do you want to sell some of those coins I like the 1892 Morgan dollar s Ms 63
What's an 1881 O MS67 worth?
Do you sell your coins,

Definitely the 98o
That 1903 is a tad over-graded.
It doesn't have the eye appeal - and needs a fresh holder.
It has better detail in the hair over the ear
Does this video count as college credit? I feel like I just got educated. :o)
This is a late comment, but the '03 is badly over graded.
I have Morgan dollar sir u buy
Weak strike on the eagles breast 1903
