    Actually $40k was a fair offer. Rick would've flipped it quickly for $42 to $48k to his collector base. At auction you might do better, but then you have auction fees.

    • @asadb1990
      @asadb1990 8 лет назад +18

      Plus many of the specialty shops like coin shops take on a consignment for a coin rather than buyiing it outright like a pawn shop. and then they charge like 25% to basically display at their shop. And in many of these consignment based shops, the item is put on display but the store employees are not encouraged to sell the products (unless employee is given commission). so you don't know when your item will get sold.

    • @damsbaug33

      Just as buyers are allowed to determine what they’re willing to pay for an item, sellers are allowed to determine the minimum price for which they’re willing to depart with an item.
      There are things I own which I cherish and would never want to give up, but if somebody offered me $100,000 for I’d be a fool not to sell. Are they worth $100k in the free market? No. Are they worth $100k to me? Yes.

      I have seen many a would-be-seller cling to their item, thinking that they will "someday" get their price. Two bad things can happen: 1) the value goes down, a la the Baseball card market crash in 2007; 2) you could lose the item/get it stolen and there goes your once-bird-in-hand great sale that you should have TAKEN.

    • @brianelkins8604
      @brianelkins8604 6 лет назад

      Hell I wouldn't have sold it ether. And that's about 10,000 more than my yearly. But your talking a rare once in a lifetime heirlume piece here. You don't just let that go lightly, even to the highest offer. That's the kinda thing you pass down the generations and teach the inherent how appreciate and value it's historical value. And I hate to tell you but the bottom just don't fall out of the collector coin market. Coins only become more rare threw time. Unless civilization collapses but even then the rare metal value will make it one of the more monetarily valuable things to have in your possession. People who can't appreciate things of this nature will never have anything to show for they're brief time in this world.

      +Drewzker no. The 1893s Morgan in ms+ condition could sell for 500K. Stacks auction had one in 2009 that went for roughly 415K. There may be one since then but I am no longer a subscriber.

      +Drewzker 1894 S barber dime will sell at auctions for 7 figures easily. 24 were minted and only the whereabouts of 9 are known. There's possibly a more valuable 19th century coin but I can't be bothered to think atm. Sorry for an extremely late reply by the way.

    He was asking PR65 cameo retail price for it. A coin like this are always submitted multiple times to try to get the highest grade possible. By the looks of the flat, dull look of it and the subdued black tone spots, it's been dipped. No way that's worth PR65 grade.

    • @W1se0ldg33zer
