    Fun fact: he actually wrote this whole arrangement on nothing but a piece of toilet paper, using the tears of many frustrated musicians as ink. When he was only three days old, his mother taught him how to identify the pitch of the indoor oxygen in their living room. He is now 12 years old. There is a clip of him performing a cover of Bohemian Rhapsody using nothing but a bubblegum and a piece of string.

      @@thedenver2724 Hahaha, I can only agree. I don't care what anyone says, Jacob belongs in the history books. Regardless of what all the smartasses have to say, he's up there with the legends. To possess that level of musicality is almost insane. Certain people downplay it and say he's just rehashing old but already known musical concepts but come on, show me another example of a 24(?) year old kid toying around with these musical ideas like it's just breakfast to him? He is so connected to music and musical intricacies that he literally speaks music, totally consumed by it. I've never seen anything like it. Peace!

    So Jacob does all of the production for his audio and video. He will add effects but he very importantly doesn't tune his vocals in his songs. So at the end, when he steadily climbs from B half-flat to B half-sharp, that is all done naturally. During his logic breakdown of Moon River, which was an hour and a half long, he called this section "the greatest harmonic journey he had ever been on".

    • @maxdriever7668
      @maxdriever7668 Год назад

      To be accurate, he does sometimes retune his vocals but he does it manually as he just knows exactly how out of tune he sang a particular note on a certain take and can just adjust it himself without the use of autotune.

  • @TruColor
    @TruColor 4 года назад +79

    I said in another video that his arrangement of Moon River may have been the greatest thing I've ever heard/seen...made even more amazing when you hear how he wrote it. An hour-and-a-half breakdown session here - ruclips.net/video/9d4-URyWEJQ/видео.html. I've been reading music and studying music theory all my life (I'm 57). Jacob makes me feel like an infant.

    If you try singing along with the top note in the section that starts at 12:00 in your video, you'll hear as the key slides away from you. It's microtonal, he slows shifts up in between "traditional" keys into half-keys, quarter-keys.

    This is the single greatest piece of music created in my lifetime, and I'm old. Watching this reaction video again I'm struck by not only the level of genius throughout but by the awesome power exhibited at the end. It's one thing to have the command of harmony Jacob has, but his command of form and the ability to build a 9 minute piece from beginning to end is staggering. I know he said that, but I wonder. That would suggest he could have managed, say, 200 Moon River type arrangements over the previous 4 years. In fact there's just the one, with just a handful more in almost same league - so one or two "biggies" a year. I know he's a genius, and quite possibly at his lifetime peak when he did this, but I'm still taking his claim with a pinch of salt.

    This guy is at a completely different level than anybody else. If you want to see to what point, there is a video posted in youtube of one of his concerts last year in the US. Among the audience were his three dear friends Steve Vai, Herbie Hancock and Quincy Jones. He had the audience give a round of applause to each one of them. One by one, they stood up and greeted the audience, but when Quincy Jones' turn comes, he does something unbelievable: he bows down to Jacob. QUINCY FREAKING JONES BOWS DOWN TO A 25-YEAR OLD KID! Tbh, I don't think that's where his talent lies. To me, his self-penned songs and (cringe) lyrics almost seem facile compared to his mind-blowing arrangements. He's a genius musical nerd, not so much a creative songwriter or artist, imo.

    How do you fuck up "Moon River? You give it to this dude. The beauty of that song is it's simplicity. Fail.
