When Washington offered the Ukranian president a ride to safety I called out to my neighbour in the Canadian Armed Forces. He had recently returned from a year in Ukraine training troops. "How long does Ukraine have? I asked. He responded that Russia was about to discover that they had made a big mistake thinking they could take Ukraine. Having trained Ukrainian soldiers he had no doubt they would be victorious. Tur Ed out he was right and all the "experts" were wrong. Just saying.
Yep, the Canadian Army is built around soldiers of eastern european stock. Just look for "can I buy a vowel" and -ski troop nametags on their uniforms. :)
The major issue is the vast difference in the populations. If Urkraine was even 10x as large population wise, Russia couldn't win. They face the same problem that eventually worn down the Romans - their losses, however less than the foe, was a problem as time went on. Let's hope the US does not decide to abandon Ukraine.
We keep pleading for our Congress members to read and use the 14th Amendment, section 3 of the US Constitution. There is no support for imperialism from people I know.
Canada, UK and US started training Ukrainians in 2015 in Ukraine, with a brief break when Russia invaded in 2022, the training was then restarted in other European countries, such as Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia etc.
I've hung out with CA Army trainers at the training center in Yavoriv, Ukraine in 2018. They even gave me one of their MREs. Pretty good, BTW. Road out to the field with them in one of their Mercedes Wolf G-Wagen trucks.
Thank you Wes, from a Canadian who loves this country. I have so much admiration and empathy for Ukraine, now there’s a country that has really punched above it’s weight. Russia thought they could conquer it in a week. Years later and the loss of life on both sides is so sad simply because a leader and a bunch of oligarchs want more land and more power.
@@thomasw2509 ok ivan, you made your defiant post of kremlin propaganda BS. Molodets. Do you have to submit an invoice to the kremlin, or does the ruble get transferred automatically? Spend it soon before it's worthless like your comment.

But dictators, oligarchs, and kleptocrats only care about people if it gives them advantage in one way or another so they can remain rich, powerful and have a 'legacy'. Sometimes it really sucks to have the wrong neighbors.

You speak better of Canada's participation than many of our politicians. Thanks for the in-depth reporting. I read there's a large shipment of unguided rockets coming next, something we know Ukraine's pilots can use to great effect.
@@ninemoonplanetYea it’s CRV-7. A domestic Canadian design similar to the FFAR. We have a bunch we were in the process of getting rid of because they were expiring, but it’s cheaper anyways to send it to Ukraine. Much higher velocity, and its accuracy is literally better than the aircraft’s cannon in tests due to the rocket using spin stabilization that works prior to exiting the tube as opposed to deployed fins. Perhaps I’m biased, but it’s easily the best unguided rocket design of all time in my opinion.

a lot of Canadians can trace their heritage back to Ukraine, my home town of Edmonton has the worlds first monument to the Holodomor which was unveiled in 1983.
We harbored allot of NAZI's from the Ukraine after WWII . That is why I never trust an old Ukrainian in Canada as my family most likely fought them . But history isn't most peoples strong suit. Like the time Canadians saluted the old Nazi Ukrainian in the HOC . Canadians have become weak .
Canada actually countered with an offer to Washington, Oregon, and California to become a province of Canada. They listed all the benefits of becoming Canadians.
@@xavermooshammer4816with all the money California is generating it probably would instead be a very good deal for Canada. Plus they could expel the US army.
Canadians are nice... until it's time to not be nice. Not even Putin is stupid enough to speak ill of Canada or Canadians. Our goal is to get our enemies to underestimate us and Trump underestimates us. If Trump didn't learn from the war of 1812, there's a nice white building in Washington DC we could gladly help renovate again.
NASAMS is a Norwegian project. Though, due to our politics, we (that is, our politicians) did as we often do, teamed up with a US military manufacturer so we can sell via the USA and not take the heat from selling to end users Norwegian activists despise. Hence, Raytheon was an ideal partner, as we use their missiles. Same with other weaponry, for example we build factories now in the USA and in Australia, so as to distance ourselves to what we are up to. That is also why we made the name change so not to tie it so strong to Norway, we love our (false) idea of being a peaceful nation. And NASAMS has been used in Ukraine for two full years now.
Kind of silly, the unfortunate truth that the pro-peace activists don’t seem to want to acknowledge is that there are many other nations who won’t respect national boundaries and need to be dealt with forcefully, either by actual kinetic diplomacy or the threat of its use. If you don’t have the weapons to back up your threats you won’t be taken seriously. I too would love a world where these weapons weren’t necessary but it’s not the one we live in. Peace Through Strength! Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦, greetings from Canada 🇨🇦

It's mind blowing how many people don't realize this. The US democrats and the Canadian conservatives aren't very far from each other on the political spectrum. Our most extreme right party, the people's party of Canada, doesn't even come close to how extreme the republicans are these days.
I've always considered America to be a one party state - ever since I started being interested in international politics in the 1970s. The only difference now is that the right wing (ie the Republicans) of their single right wing party has now become a genuinely fascist theocratic cult.

Another Canadian vet here. No, Trollin' Dump is NOT right about the CAF or Canada's military spending. The proportion of the Canadian budget spent on the CAF is a decision made by the Canadian government, and not by some ignorant loudmouth posting from a golden toilet at 4:00 AM. The 2% GDP figure is a guideline for NATO members and has no force in law. And the USA has not been "protecting" Canada any more than it's been protecting the rest of NATO --- the USA spends more money on defense than any other country in the world, both in real terms and as a proportion of GDP, but Trump can't figure out that the money the USA spends includes non-NATO obligations, including operating bases all around the world and not just in western Europe. Dump's ignorant threats make him sound just like a gangster running a protection racket, saying "Nice country you got here, it'd be a shame if anything happened to it", and saying we've been getting security all this time and now we've gotta' pay for it, or else.
there is no extreme left in US, only extreme right and Right, just because they are opposing teams and one is extreme right, it does not make the other left.
Canada needs to build it's own military manufacturing complex...Only if the Conservatives had not scrapped the Arrow project, Ukraine would probably be flying it's latest Avro's fighter/interceptor jets. As a Canadian, I'm still butt hurt about that fiasco...
The U.S. SAID "no worries Canada" The Russians are aimed at us. So "we will protect you" The U.S. had become a global Leader BECAUSE IT WAS INVOLVED IN SO MANY WARS. It was always employed in making new weapons. It relied on war to keep its economy going. So, it did not need the "competition". I can't remember which president said that but it was one in the U.S. to keep the "Military Machine going" or the U.S. economy humming. "some of my head memory still retain stuff."
I agree Canada needs to restart it's own military manufacturing, even if it's with a partnership with some US arms companies opening up facilities in Canada or with Sweden to build Gripens etc. By the end of the War II, Canada with a population of 11 1/2 million had the world’s fourth largest air force at it's peak (78 operational squadrons and over 200,000 personnel.) and the largest navy (775 ships, including over 400 combat vessels). Canadian industry produced more than 800,000 military transport vehicles, 50,000 tanks, More than 16,400 aircraft ,40,000 field, naval, and anti-aircraft guns, and 1,700,000 small arms. Of the 800,000 military vehicles of all types were built in Canada Diefenbaker cut the Avro Arrow and the defense spending from 5% of GDP to about 2% over six years from about 1957-1964, Although he was pressured from the US as the US all arms be build to a NATO standard, and the majority of arms manufacturing. Plus the voting public at the time having been thru WW1 and WW2 were known to say never again. Now Canada buys a lot of of its major military hardware from the USA but supplies a lot of the critical minerals needed to the US.
I had engineers from the Avro helping me develop a specialized horseshoe I was creating. Brilliant guys, showed me how to write an equation, with a bell curve to make stuff.

Canada was training ukrainians since the crimia invasion.

First priority of a government is Defence. If the country gets taken over, nothing else matters.
@@MB-xe8bb Absolutely right.
The Canadian moose is one of the fastest animals in winter and one of the most dangerous.
Canada being in the US? UHHH no f*cking thx
there is no extreme left in US, only extreme right and Right, just because they are opposing teams and one is extreme right, it does not make the other left.
It's tweedle-dumb and tweedle-dumber.
Slava Ukraini!
Of the 800,000 military vehicles of all types were built in Canada
Diefenbaker cut the Avro Arrow and the defense spending from 5% of GDP to about 2% over six years from about 1957-1964, Although he was pressured from the US as the US all arms be build to a NATO standard, and the majority of arms manufacturing. Plus the voting public at the time having been thru WW1 and WW2 were known to say never again. Now Canada buys a lot of of its major military hardware from the USA but supplies a lot of the critical minerals needed to the US.
@@franceyneireland1633I’d love to team up with Sweden on the Gripen!
I had engineers from the Avro helping me develop a specialized horseshoe I was creating. Brilliant guys, showed me how to write an equation, with a bell curve to make stuff.
I believe the Americans demanded that Canada reduce its armed forces significantly after WW2…
Canada clearly made a difference if Ukraine’s early heroic defence of Kiev as their army leveraged the training provided by the Canadian army officers and trainers.
I'm glad Australia is an allie with US, but I'm also glad there is an ocean between us.
You just are so lucky. Republican fantasy meltdowns every other election. Uncle Regen was nice though ; TOW missiles even to army cadet kids , an 'Star Wars" missile defense caused Soviets to make heavy pants.
Lucky you don't have to live with them , some generations of them are like grade 6 education, at voting age....

It’s great that we can provide some help. People have to realize that military wise we are very small. Unfortunately Canadian governments have neglected our military. Hoping we increase our military spending and military. Slava Ukraine 🇨🇦🇺🇦
Canada is not, nor never have been a belligerent imperialist country. WE have always been a citizen army. We don't a large standing army. Nor do we need to subsidize the usa's military and shite war policies and wars. Trump, nor the rest of the usa is "protecting" Canada from anything. They can pay for their own belligerence and wars, don't expect us to. We all share intel, we support them and When and if we are attacked... and it's looking like the usa AGAIN, we will sign up, tool up and kick ass again
