  • I bet you've never really thought, or cared about where to leave the handle when you've finished rowing?
    Well, always happy to make a niche video - I explain what to do, and why to do it. Based on a Concept2 rowing machine naturally, but the same goes for any rowing machine with a similar setup.
    🔵🔵🔵 SHOWING SUPPORT FOR ROWALONG 🔵🔵🔵
    I've been asked a few times about the best way to support what I'm doing. Honestly, the best way is just to watch and subscribe using this link: / @rowalong )
    More views lead to more views - and I'm really just interested in getting more people on board to RowAlong with. (Make sure to click the notification bell to be alerted when I upload new workouts)
    That said, I know that there are some people who want to show their support financially, and as much as I've shied away from giving out links to this before - I've been advised to at least provide the links - to stop someone spoofing me!! So....
    Patreon: / rowalong
    PayPal: www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_...
    But seriously - just keep watching, that's all I ask!!
    🔵🔵🔵
    This workout is provided as usual WITHOUT MUSIC. If you want music, why not load up another RUclips tab, or maybe Soundcloud and pick your own tunes. As always, follow me for stroke rate. And I'll keep you company for the row with training tips, technique tips, and my usual general waffle.
    For more information about drag factor, the plans and what this is all about, head to www.rowalong.com For more about indoor rowing in general, go to www.indoorrowinginfo.com
    See you in the next video.
    ℹℹℹℹℹℹ - 2K training paces are based on your current best performance to row 2000m. Set your monitor to 2000m and row it as fast as you can. When you're finished either look at the memory screen for that row, and note the Average /500m pace - or just divide your time by 4 to find that out.
    For instance - if you rowed your 2000m in 8:20 - the average pace for 500m is 2:05. It doesn't matter if you started at 1:50 and then slowed down to 2:20 by the end - your average across the whole row is 2:05.
    So when I give a pace guide saying "2K + 18 seconds" - that means that you take your 2K time, and add 18 seconds to it (in the above example, 2:05 + 18 = 2:23 pace.) Just be sure to set your monitor so it displays your /500m pace so you can stay on target.
    Every time you think you're getting faster, rather than just arbitrarily changing the pace guide - do another 2000m test to find your current 2K average time - and then work from that. ℹℹℹℹℹℹ

    I appreciate the background about the distinction between model A & B vs C, D & E. I was wondering why there was such a controversy!

  • @trix-4656
    @trix-4656 Год назад

    Since the Model A, I have always released the handle all the way into the body. For the same reason that if you have an analog photo camera, it's best to keep the shutter as open (1.4 or 1.8 or whatever is the widest) as possible and the speed dial at the slowest (usually "B") in order to let the springs relaxed. It doesn't take any more or less effort to leave the rower's handle in either position.

    I (model D RowErg) put the handle way up front to prevent a larger piece of the chain from catching dust. Don't know if it actually helps for anything but this way i have the feeling I'm keeping the chain as clean as it can be.

      No one really mentions the dust on chain thing. Good shout!!

    Hello I have always rested the handle at the top frame used the hook only while use and short pauses nevertheless i had the same thing happen and looked into it and found out that the screws of the handle hook right in the middle of the frame have a pointy finish that with every pull and loose of the cord it brushes by these and the cord starts to shed.
    I replaced the screws of the handle with extra strong sticky tape so the frame inside is completely free of obstructions. I wrote this to C2 HQ but they said it doesn't have to do with it but I'm dftly sure it does they just don't want to accept it, just look at it by yourself, where the cord starts to shred is right in that area.

    Eerie… gym instructor asked me just today to return the handle to the hook. I went into a long explanation about why it’s better to store the handle at the throat. Now I’m confused (and need a new gym!) 😂

      Hahah. No, just show him this video. Then maybe the one about “one move to go faster” afterwards. Gym instructors tend to be very basic on rowing knowledge.

      @@rowalong You’re not wrong! I can barely contain myself when I see personal trainers encouraging their clients to set the damper to 10 and ‘pull harder’. I usually utter a “push, don’t pull” in a stage whisper!

    My Model E bungee shredded in two years. The tech who replaced it said always leave it by the opening. The tech from C2 who knew when I bought it said the same thing. So now I leave it in that awful looking position instead of in the cradle where it looks better. Oh well.

    • @rowalong
      @rowalong  Год назад +1

      My guess would be that there’s something rubbing on the cord, that it has nothing to do with where you leave it.
      But probably best to be safe than sorry here!

      @sotampacane Год назад

      @@rowalong You are probably right but no way I could diagnose that myself. C2 just sent me a new one for free. I did have to pay the technician to show me how to change it (but candidly even he had some issues) so that was costly but hopefully it never happens again for 5 years

      @@ricardoschmidt1126 Thanks, but I checked and the screws holding in the cradle on my Model E a) aren't pointy and b) aren't making any contact with the shock/bungee cord. So I'm going to keep everything as is. During the row, I will put it in the cradle between intervals but after I'm completely done will gently rest it against the opening. I don't like the way it looks, but if on the off chance it avoids replacing the bungee every 2 years its worth it.
