I was working at a MB dealership and in 2020 we had a customer buy a new a class saloon. He had a 190e that he hadn’t brought with him as his daily since 1996 and was going to scrap it! I managed to get it for 3 bottles of wine worth €33 each and it turned out to be a decent car. Still have it.

Old git here - I remember when the 190 came out in the early 80s, quite a phenomenon at the time. That's a terrific example (33 years old, one owner, all the history), and have a look at the interior, nothing is falling apart. A true time-warp car and I love it.

Fantastic. I miss my 190e. I love how different they look to everything modern. I love that they're relatively lightweight, reasonably narrow for threading through traffic and that the suspension just sails round twisty corners without upsetting the passengers. (I might have just talked myself into getting another one!)

A great buy! I'm all for originality if you still have it.
My best old cars have been rear wheel drive old Volvo. Had a 1986 740 GLE estate in 2002. £425 My first car. Drove that for 5 years.
After a brand new Corolla bought a 1989 240 GLT Volvo auto estate in 2009 for £350. Daily and only car for 8 years and owned for 10 years nearly. Sold at 234,000miles and still drove faultless. Sold for £500.
Currently in 2016 bought a 1996 Volvo 940 SE LPT Auto estate for £250. After having the 240, wanted something with AC and ABS brakes plus split folding rear seats and sunroof. Was amazed on how smooth and quiet the 940 was after the 240. Last year rebuilt the front suspension at 208,000 miles and finally fixed the AC. Used pipes, new Nissens condenser and used compressor. Body paintwork not the best but used as a van for self employment! 210,000 miles and all been very reliable.

Lovely to see an old classic on the road although I'm not sure Mr Khan in London would like it! Good to see it doesn't seem to have any rust. I've seen later models, around the early 2000s, start to rust over the wheel arches. Are all the bus drivers there that mad, even the one following you was catching up! Great video and would like to see a follow up.

Josh, this is positive Karma, you've obviously done something good in your life or in a past life that this beauty should come your way! Certainly a keeper if only for the provenance! Sure to be worth even more in a few years time. I considered buying an early SL a few years back but was waiting for them to drop a little more in price but instead they just carried on rising, now their prices are stratospheric and unreachable for me. I'm really a Beemer man having had 3 E21s, an E28 and two E34s but also have a soft spot for the W124s and 190es currently owning a 2.6 190e with a/c, abs, s/r, r/headrests, h/wash/wipe, elec windows all round and a silky 6 cylinder engine that can be smooth and sedate if you choose, or can be swift and quite rapid too. And it's done less mileage than yours at only 208k. Yes I have a white beard btw! The speedo's are notorious for failing on W124s and W201s but mine still works thankfully. Only recently subscribed to this channel, I really like Joe's straight talking and very natural and fluid presentation style, clearly a great communicator and not the least bit pretentious. Would love to see more content on this old 190e and see how far you guys can improve it, but tbh I suspect it wouldn't take much. Great video and banter, glad you did a test drive and swapped drivers. Sure the E36 is gathering a strong following, but it just doesn't have the class or the style of the baby Benz....

I bought a 3 year old 19E0E in 1993. What a fabulous car. The previous owner was a Company and the car had been specced new to come within the company car threshold. It was white and had the 2 litre engine with a manual gearbox. It had optional rear headrests which could be dropped down electrically. The economy was extremely good because of the( unusual) manual gearbox and I could achieve around 40mpg on a run. at the time I was driving from Stroud in Gloucestershire to Leeds every few weeks and it was a great motorway car. In 1996 I replaced it with a c180 Elegance -bad move. That was when the bean copunters got involved with Mercedes.

@@JoshuaJDGray I think the thing is that the money you get from the 190 is not realistically going to be enough to restore something like your e36 to the same quality, I think it would be unwise to go the route of selling the 190 and plowing the money into the e36.
Don’t get me wrong I love my BMWs, but they have already appreciated, where as the 190 still has a long way to go, so in 10 years time I think the gamble will definitely pay off too.
