    I bought a UV-6R from R & L, and wanted to do a quick review of the radio. I have to say (spoiler alert), it ain't a bad radio at all!
    This is a great super-budget friendly radio. I bought a couple to cache in a few places, as emergency comms gear.
    I did store with the battery out of the radio!
    NOTE: In the video, I erroneously said the dummy load kit was 50W. It is 20W.

    And very interesting. Mine is almost identical on the back label except mine says power 7W and it has a CMIIT ID:2017FP0432
    That's the Chinese equivalent of the FCC

      It's one of the better 'fengs. I have two of them (I think I forgot I had one).

    Great video. Im a little late to the party but i have a question for anyone. When trying to program the uv6r with chirp...i can't change the squelch values. Ive always been able to with the hundred othe Baofengs i have bit with this one if i change the values of the squelch from the default it will not let me write to the radio. It says image not valid for this radio. Anyone know of a way to change the numbers?

      Interesting - that sounds like there is a disconnect between the firmware and what chirp is expecting. I haven't tried mine with chirp, I just usually use it for testing stuff.

    Thanks for your review. So Jim which unit would you recommend me , as a start I want somehow a decent unit and mostly to be hackeable out of band frequency some how . But what matters me also is to have real output power.- I'd be using it within urban area city. So these are the models I can get in here uv6r / uv5r (says 10 watt model ) , A52, uv-9rplus, uv-82 plus. Which from all these would you take. Thanks Jim

      Retevis RA-79 ( amzn.to/3LSJ8sr ). While technically a little dirty, it's such a weak harmonic (-12dbm or 60uW), that to me, it's a distinction w/o a difference. Only one harmonic, and you'd have to be damn near touching antennas to pick up 60uW of radiated power on the harmonic.
      The other one is the Quansheng K5 (basically same radio).
      amzn.to/3WOXtML
      The Retevis is $17. Skip a coffee at Starbucks, and you've covered the cost. It has multiple firmwares available, and is very hackable.

      @@FEPLabsRadio Thanks Jim for taking your time and answering. Anyways and shamefully the only options available here are the ones I told you. From Baofeng Uv5r , Uv-82 ( which I checked and says 8watts) ,are any of these good enough, I've seen many copies of baofengs. I do pcb board repair , but i'm not into ham at all. When I get them I'll tear them down . Again thanks

    Hello, I am new and i have some questions. Can this radio work in a city for 2 3 km and will it work in a 60 70 meter concrete underground?

      In a city yes, underground in concrete??? Nope.

    sabe me dizer se eu apontar a antena desse rádio para uma caixa de som numa distância de 20 metros ele causa interferência na caixa?

    • @FEPLabsRadio
      @FEPLabsRadio  2 года назад

      It would depend on a lot of factors. Generally, no. 20 meters is a long way, it shouldn't be a problem.

      Yeah, it is. And dangit, it just works for what it is. No fancy GPS, APRS, etc. A straight up V/U radio. For a price that is a great starter radio for 2m/440 work.

    I just walked into R&L and picked one of these up.

      Dude, right? I had zero need for one, but I couldn't pass it up. It seems to be a little higher quality than the UV5R and clones, and it has a flashlight. Because flashlight.

    Well done demonstration - I am more interested in the receiver side of things. Does this radio have a scanner on the receiver? Like to use it for scanning railroad channels. Do you have a video about the receiver? Thanks - Gary from Michigan 😎

      Hey there! It is a full xmit/rcvr radio. It will scan, however, the scan speed is pretty slow. Compared to a regular scanner (even a cheap one), most transciever scanners are glacial in the pace of scanning.

    The uv-5r model seems to be the most popular from Baofeng here in Brazil. Did you do any tests on it? I didn't find it on your channel.

      Great idea! At the time, I didn't have one at hand. I can probably knock that out this week. Thanks for watching!

    May I ask how long in communicatiom range does Baofeng UV-6R capacity in kilometers ?

    • @FEPLabsRadio
      @FEPLabsRadio  3 года назад

      It depends on several factors, but easily 5 kilometers. Probably upwards of 10-12 depending on terrain, power settings, antenna, etc.

      In mountainous terrain without direct visibility of 446 Mhz successfully at 36 km

      @@ДимитърСотиров-э8ю That’s excellent! I would say that’s probably about the outside edge and obviously you had a very good line of sight on that. Now, if you catch tropospheric ducting, you might be able to get 60 or 70 km
