They both have their share of problems. Both platforms have about equal amount of problems, but different for each. Love them both! I could not afford an R/T yet so I got a GT Plus. His repeated and firm guidance to us was specifically NOT to get the v6 due to it having many service issues including overheating, etc. We were not seeking the BT TnG upgrade but lucked into a lower miles car with more options for same price as a Carmax R/T with 3x the miles and not a clean panel to be seen. We'll report back in 100k when we replace the valvetrain and muscle on for another 100k!
I only want 3 things in a Durango. A 5.7 hemi the tow and go and AWD. All three a must have. The Durango is too heavy for a V6 and it's a truck so it'll get used as a truck so you know how that story goes.
The 5.7 definitely is the better engine. I don’t think the hits were really comparable. Since we only saw the V6 hit from a rolling start and only the second hit. It definitely does not have e same power of you are looking for power. Just ordered me a Granite 5.7 with the suede Leather seats and Captains chairs. @@TeamSexyPaintball Not really. Truck stickered for $50,000 with the V6 and this way my wife let’s me spend more on my Duece coupe because I get better mileage. Win, win
So far in my 2019 Charger GT, the 3.6L engine is pretty decent. Sport mode really does a great job on acceleration. With that being said, I cant wait until I upgrade to a Scat or maybe a Durango SRT lol
Recently bought my wife the 2021 GT+ with the 3.6l Penta, Alpine 10” upgrade, blacktop package, moonroof, cargo rails, and performance hood. I’m probably going to take it back to the dealer to have the tow package thrown on as well. I didn’t think she really needed it but now I’m thinking it wouldn’t hurt to have it on either. I’m also thinking on the raised second row center console while I’m at it with the tow package. But this is still a really nice highway cruiser. If I buy three magnetic antennas and a magnetic spotlight, cars and semi’s are sure to quickly get out of my way in the highways fast lane… 😂
That can only be done the right at the factory when the car is first being built. If anyone told you differently they lied to you. You can add the ball attachment but as far as the heaven duty engine cooling and the leveling kit that can not be added
I would usually agree, might as well get the AWD. I think dodge just pushes the RWD ones out for people to save a few thousand and keep it on the pavement
15:41 It's probably the RWD. The V8 can't put down all it's power so the lighter V6 feels similar. If they were both AWD, the V8 would have a bigger advantage.
My 1999 Durango has 320K miles. Never had a problem other than the normal stuff after these many miles. Upper and lower ball joints a new alternator and regular maintenance. I wonder how long these new ones last. Especially the V6 with a terrible transmission history.
@@Vadim_Andr. Consumer Reports. The V6 ranked only 2 out of 5, partially because of frequent, but minor transmission problems and problems with the power train. Neighbor of mine is a mechanic for Chrysler and feels the same about the V6. This said, transmission problems were much more severe 5 and more years ago and has somewhat improved. Not sure what type of trans is in the newer Durango.
I have a 2020 Durango GT AWD, Tow-N-Go package, in Reactor blue. I wanted one of the 3 lighter colors. For dealing with sun induced heat. The Reactor Blue gets plenty of compliments though. On bumpy mountain highways like CA-17 between San Jose, CA and Santa Cruz. The Durango with the Tow-N-Go package, drives much better than a Challenger or Charger. The 2021 dash is so nice an upgrade. I am tempted to trade the 2020 in for a 2021. But I manage my money better than that. The Tow-N-Go package has a good balance between performance and economy. I get about 22mpg at 80mph, 26mpg at 70mph, and 31mpg at 60mph. In many states, the Durango is classified as a truck. We have a 2016 Ram 1500 Quadcab 4wd and a 2018 Ram 2500 Crewcab 4wd. The Durango is very useful for going to places that have parking garages. Since the Rams do have a height clearance issue in many parking garages. The Hellcat SRT does have a nice acceleration factor. But our Ram 2500 is an absolute brute for power. With the 6.7L Cummins.
You're quite the FCA aficionado! The 6.7L Cummins is tempting. Im missing having a truck, so im debating between a performance truck or a work truck like the Ram 2500
RT tow and go with the v6 is ridiculously fast, Unless you are towing like 8000lb. it's MORE than enough. Bought it six months ago and it still surprises me when push the pedal down.
The Hemi is the best MOPAR engine to have, but the V6 Pentastar is no slouch. My 2018 Jeep Cherokee with the 3.2L V6 does the job but combined with the problematic 9 spd transmission forces you to compensate. FCA hasn't been able to resolve the issue, so just have to accept it but still getting 24 mpg Hwy / 18 City
I’ve been stuck between the two and after test driving them I feel the same exact way. If I want a hemi, it wouldn’t be in a Durango. Tbh if I wanted a v8 it wouldn’t even be a charger or challenger 💯I think the v6 in the gt and sxts are great. As well as in the charger and challenger
I can see that, good point. Still getting into the groove with the actual car reviews. I have a 2018 Daytona, and now that you mention it, sport mode does make a pretty big difference
I love sport mode on my 2017 Durango R/T. Definitely makes a difference on accelerating and that stiffer handling. Best overall suv IMO for a family vehicle, and “sports car in one” I mean what other suv is easily accepted and sought after at car meets? With AWD and it’s 50/50 weight distribution it can manage very well when aggressively driving
Good video! Liked and Subscribed. I have had a 17 charger srt, 17 durango and a 19 ram 1500 sport.... And I have always came back to the FCA products. You definitely get your moneys worth. Now I'm back to shopping for a 2021 durango r/t (destroyer gray).
@@WIDEBODYNATION Great video. Can you do a comparison between the durango RT and the durango RT with the tow and go package? My understanding is the tow and go package includes a performance exhaust. I would be curious how that sounds compared to the regular exhaust.
Go with the V8!!! It’s not as bad of mpg as they showed in the video. More like 16-17 city or better. I have a AWD Durango R/T and before bigger off-road tires I would average 21mpg... and could easily manage 24-26mpg highway or when just cruising down long country roads with no stops
Nice comparison, but I just purchased a GT plus model has everything the RT has other then the v8 and sound of course , fully loaded would of been a better comparison and definitely a better buy for your money, but thanks anyway
Good Vedeo! I had a 2014 Charger SE with the Pentastar and it had no problem getting up and going. I traded up to a 2019 Ram 1500 BigHorn with the 5.7 and absolutely love the sound, the grumble, and torque. But I don't feel that my ram absolutely blows away my charger even though the Ram has that V8... the gas is horrendous, the annual tags are $600, the insurance is rediculous and I'm actually going to trade it for either an SXT or GT Durango and still feel good at the end of the day.
I bought a Dodge Mini van for the fam. We loved it & that started some shit with Dodge. Moved on to the Durango. And probably continue on to an SRT/redeye/demon 🤷🏼♂️ or whatever goofey shit they put out when we buy the next one. Awesome whips. Fun to drive.
Nice review man. Great looking vehicles! Looking at getting the wife one of these in a couple of years. You should discuss towing capacity on both models, as I think the 2021 RT with tow and go package can tow 8600 lbs.
What a coincidence! I was working with them about a Super Stock...that they forgot was an ordered car. Theyre trying to get me one now...in 2022...(ha, not happening, I know) Still. I was trying to work with a dealer to get a SS, and a GT AWD Challenger for mom. I feel safer with her in that in the winter, not the Scat Pack. (can you tell I got her to love Mopar, hard? lol)
We just bought a R/T and I'm having some *slight* regrets after seeing this video. I love the car, but I wish we would of looked around more carefully for the right option package. The captain chairs are nice, but mine has the upgraded center console so my kids have a harder time getting to the back. Also, the I don't have the upgraded leather seats, I would of traded the 2nd row console for those. We also don't have the blacktop or trailer hitch options, and instead have a moonroof (which was around $1000). The blacktop package looks great with that color scheme, but I already have a black car with black interior, and I kind of like the contrasting chrome wheels.
I've read you can convert your console to a non-console by replace the second row console with the flat dual cup holder piece. It's not a perfect conversion, but it works.
Did he put the v6 in sport mode. I noticed a difference in sports mode. And yeah you can get the 10 inch screen. But honestly durangos are hard to find used like this where im at. Im getting a new one in 2 more years. I have 2020 gt plus love it. Dont know if i want the v8. Definitely more than 5k price difference used. Like a 10 price difference used
Interesting video. Ultimately they want to remove all car anyways. But yeah, i'm watching this while wondering if I buy a Durango or GolfR. I don't like the weight of the durango, but from experience, I'll have more fun with the durango because I'll have more friends willing to hope in to go somewhere. Yeah, here in canada, I have noticed that whenever we commute together, we always take the car of friends with the biggest car even if we would be perfeclty fine in the smaller one and save on fuel. It doesn't matter. What is even crazier is that this rule is automatic. There isn't even a discussion or a debate, people naturally agree on the biggest car without saying a word. This apply even when they never met before. It is a silent rule here. Hence, why I'm considering the durango. Nice to haul friend and kids.
I want to see towing a 5000 lb trailer on highway up and down hills. They rate it at 7000 for v6? But real world testing compared to hemi. Is it worth hemi over 6 I had a Chevy 5.3 full size van and had to hold it in 3 rd or 4 th to maintain highway speed on hills. I also have a caravan with the pentestar 6 good engine but 289 HP at almost max rpm don’t know about towing w/v6 Durango
I have a 2018 GT blacktop v6. Nice ride but my only complaint is that I avg 14 mpg. I mostly drive city. It was advertised way higher. I can’t imagine the amount the v8 truly gets you.
AWD is the only way I’d go anymore. Traction everywhere, works amazing in winter time, I mean you have to really try hard to break the tires loose at all on wet or dry pavement
Wow that seems like pretty bad estimated mpg. Lol my 2017 Durango R/T AWD with bigger Nitto Grappler G2’s does better than that 14 city and 22 highway. Unless I am letting my Dango sit and idle for a few hours per tank I could even race it around and not touch 14mpg at worst. Average is upper teens with off-road tires, was 21mpg average with the Pirelli highway tires

If I buy three magnetic antennas and a magnetic spotlight, cars and semi’s are sure to quickly get out of my way in the highways fast lane… 😂
I bought my wife the same exact car, and I told her I want to make it look like a undercover
That can only be done the right at the factory when the car is first being built. If anyone told you differently they lied to you. You can add the ball attachment but as far as the heaven duty engine cooling and the leveling kit that can not be added
I don't understand those who buy a rear-wheel drive SUV of this class - crazy....
I would usually agree, might as well get the AWD. I think dodge just pushes the RWD ones out for people to save a few thousand and keep it on the pavement
Just bought a ‘24 destroyer gray gt plus awd i love is so far it has the 10” screen and heats cooled seats and a sunroof
15:41 It's probably the RWD. The V8 can't put down all it's power so the lighter V6 feels similar. If they were both AWD, the V8 would have a bigger advantage.
Good point
My 1999 Durango has 320K miles. Never had a problem other than the normal stuff after these many miles. Upper and lower ball joints a new alternator and regular maintenance. I wonder how long these new ones last. Especially the V6 with a terrible transmission history.
why do you think the transmission is terrible?
@@Vadim_Andr. Consumer Reports. The V6 ranked only 2 out of 5, partially because of frequent, but minor transmission problems and problems with the power train. Neighbor of mine is a mechanic for Chrysler and feels the same about the V6. This said, transmission problems were much more severe 5 and more years ago and has somewhat improved. Not sure what type of trans is in the newer Durango.
How’s the towing between the two?
Just can’t beat the hemi noises I love my Durango paddle shifters make it shift sooo aggressive
I really like the Dodge Durango, a V6 will do. How reliable are they if they are serviced properly on-time?
Compare the rt to the rt tow n go. I just bought a tow n go, it makes the V8 well worth it!
Both are nice but gotta go with v8
I'm trying to figure out if you can remove then3rd row seats completely?
Got a 21 gt all wheel drive and I’m enjoying it
Also, perhaps a differenriator for folks is that 7th seat and towing capacity as well.
True! Towing capacity isnt bad on the V8 durangos
Great video man! Appreciate it. Picking up full loaded v6 durango this Friday! Tks for the great info
Congrats on the new Durango! Glad to help
regret the v6 at all? looking at getting one but i want a v8 before the electric cars take over.
I own a 2017 dodge durango gt and I love it. I almost purchased the 2021 hellcat but the wife said no
RT tow and go with the v6 is ridiculously fast, Unless you are towing like 8000lb. it's MORE than enough.
You didn't talk about the sport mode in the RT. When it is put in the Sport Mode, the RT has better take off and pick up
And the handling is much better!
Nice review bro! I test drove a Durango RT and SRT last week. I'll have a video of it coming soon. You already know which one I'd get! 🤣
Thanks! Looking forward to your video
I’m still confused with myself about getting the engine 🤣 Planning to get one in upcoming summer 😻
Tough choice, but a bit easier if you prefer the bigger screen
@@WIDEBODYNATION you can upgrade to the larger screen in the GT if that's a deal breaker
@@WIDEBODYNATION Great video. Can you do a comparison between the durango RT and the durango RT with the tow and go package? My understanding is the tow and go package includes a performance exhaust. I would be curious how that sounds compared to the regular exhaust.
@@markh2719 same exhaust. FCA claims that with tow package you have heavy duty engine cooling and brakes, otherwise everything else is the same
Go with the V8!!!
Enjoy it! Especially that new screen
0 to 60 was needed in this video.
V6 has lower gears, you can feel it, really closes the gap
Just picked up my Durango Gt destroyer gray love it
Nice! Congratulations, best color too
Someone cohos the afford the v-6 hub
@nashmalkin1371 wow another shitty opinion, what a waste... At least he has a ride
Just bought a 2021 gt plus reactive blue. I love it too.this is my 2nd Durango.just a good truck if u take care of it
Both of them amazing engines but, the hemi V8 FTW
I have the same exact 2021 v6 GT AWD
I also like to add that i have the bigger screen
Same, I would've gotten the R/T but they don't have it in AWD
@@arenas08 i'd rather have AWD in Ohio 😜
Good morning I love the v6 Dodge Durango better
Is the RT a sportier body style? Or are they exactly the same body
Exactly the same
Nice review man. Great looking vehicles! Looking at getting the wife one of these in a couple of years. You should discuss towing capacity on both models, as I think the 2021 RT with tow and go package can tow 8600 lbs.
6200 lbs with v6 and tow n go
great video. helpful making the decision V-8 vs V-6
Glad it was helpful!
What is the price of the 2021 Dodge Durango GT now in America
What a coincidence! I was working with them about a Super Stock...that they forgot was an ordered car. Theyre trying to get me one now...in 2022...(ha, not happening, I know)
Still.
Did they ever fixed the stuttering when coming to a stop??? Felt like the transmission was slipping or something
I didnt notice that for either of these 2021s, but I didnt drive them enough to notice. Ill keep an ear out for that
My boy had a 2020 GT and it was doing it. Ok cool.
Should’ve kept going down victory drive to the civic center
True true
Did he put the v6 in sport mode. I noticed a difference in sports mode. And yeah you can get the 10 inch screen. But honestly durangos are hard to find used like this where im at. Im getting a new one in 2 more years. I have 2020 gt plus love it. Dont know if i want the v8. Definitely more than 5k price difference used. Like a 10 price difference used
V8 the best
Id probably get whichever is more reliable enginewise.
Can you Get the RT with the bench seat Middle row?
A dealer near me has a preowned Durango GT with the 10.1 inch screen for $48k
Hey my man! Any word on your Hellcat Redeye delivery date?
Looking like MLK weekend probably
@@WIDEBODYNATION Thats exciting news. Glad you haven't given up. Can't wait to see your car on the channel.
Where is this ?
Columbus GA. Autonation south CDJR
My favorite part of owning the v8 Durango is when a Kia Soul blows by me on the interestate
Sounds wild!
If you live in Michigan that probably was me. I had a white Kia Soul rental and whipping the shit out of it lol.
the v6 sounds weird the v8 sound good
Im thinking of getting the 3.6l since it gives better mpg! I have a challenger rt & todays gas prices aint helping lol or else i would get the 5.7l
I have a 2018 GT blacktop v6. Nice ride but my only complaint is that I avg 14 mpg. I mostly drive city. It was advertised way higher. I can’t imagine the amount the v8 truly gets you.
Got the '21 SRT, 9mpg.
It's all about the smiles per gallon😁
Turn off eco mode in the city eco mode is best used for highway
I just got a 2021 DD R/T 5.7 and mine is AWD
Nice! Glad you could get the AWD
AWD is the only way I’d go anymore. Traction everywhere, works amazing in winter time, I mean you have to really try hard to break the tires loose at all on wet or dry pavement
Why do people get rwd over awd? Especially SUVS
Probably depends on the climate and they’re budget. But agreed, AWD SUVs make the most sense
@@WIDEBODYNATION True. Are you going to make anymore videos on the 2021 Durano R/T?
@@sebyz765 I can if you guys want me to?
@@WIDEBODYNATION Up to you. I was trying to find in depth videos on the durango R/T tow n' go package
If I choose the v6 do I have the option to change out the seat color?
Red seat only on r/t and srt
Thanks for answering @Jose Quezada
Thanks for answering @Jose Quezada
You'll always have a option to change the seats GT, RT, SRT money talks
The best color 😍
I just got a blacktop 2024 V6 for 55 thousand…. Gone up in price a bit I see.
Im about to purchase a 2018 gt in destroyer grey, i already bought rally stripes to put on mine lol
Someone loves the cock! V-6 is gaaayyyy
HEMI engine also weighs alot more cutting down on the HP Difference
i have a v8 durango rt and its 3rd row seats too but mine have 7 seats and a sun roof
Awesome comparison video 👌🏽✅
Thanks! 👍
I bet you’re parents Toyota mini van is still on the road lol , great review!!
You’re right! We’ve had many of our Toyota’s go 250,000+ miles
Not a big fan of destroyer grey, I prefer silver billet metallic
lol. ppl act like they were born with a scat..compare em all day....nothing like a V8🤨
The AWD 5.7 there is hell of a difference than the V6
I’m sure it’s more noticeable for towing
Dodge journey had the 3.6L and his good
Wow that seems like pretty bad estimated mpg.
I’m afraid you got a great example, mine is closer to 15 avg. city is definitely close to 14
I have some real good experiences with a 360 magnum
Very helpful video. Do you know if they fixed the rocker arm bearing problem with the 3.6L? Common problem.
Great review 👏🏾
Thanks!
I have 1 wheel drive ,you have to unplug something fro. The fuese box and modify your pcm . code on my second last video
Is that better for fuel economy or something?
