I wish we could have the King come back for more interviews I enjoy seeing him evertime I stop by the Petty museum
I stopped in there in my semi and trailer. He looked over at it, smiled, and went inside. Didn't care I was taking up half of the parking lot.
This man is a national treasure. Someone needs to sit down with him and record all of the stories and memories he has of racing
Someone needs to sit down and record these stories this man is a National Treasure.
I agree, but hat's literally what this is though....
@@JohnnyUtah13 I am talking in depth not an hour.
The Babe Ruth of NASCAR. Need to get Jr, DJ, and KP to moderate some group reunions while these guys are still around.
@@leegraves8878 Unfortunately, I don't think Richard could go much longer than an hour at this age. anything we get should be treasured
@@FloridaManRacer The magic of video or audio editing it doesn't have to be all done at once.
I don't mean to be disrespectful, but you need to get more and more of American legends on the show before they are gone. Any and all nascar legends and journeymen owners, pitcrew members, drivers. A man like Richard can tell stories that may be lost when he gets called away from this life. I never rooted for Richard but I have a huge amount of respect for him and would listen to anything he had to say.
I was at Martinsville when Milkman hit Petty from behind and dislocated his right shoulder, they made a Goody’s advertisement about that crash. Back then we could go down to the pits after the race. Richard Petty was backed up to a wall with his right arm in a sling, apologizing for not signing autographs, but he would shake with everyone left handed. I reached over that crowd and grabbed Petty’s hand!
Richard was, is, and always will be the King. I love hearing Dale Jr. talking with Richard about these stories. Awesome.
Could have the King on for a week straight and still get about half of what he's seen, heard, and done.
The most genuine guy you’ll ever meet
Man, my childhood was filled with RIchard Petty. Still have my 70 Superbird model me and Unc put together in the early 70's. I played stick and ball sports my whole life, but my heroes were stock car drivers. From Richard and Bobby A. on through Davey and Dale, then Dale Jr. The King is the King. Nothing but respect for all the old school drivers. Those stock car legend get togethers with Eli Gold are some of the best story telling you'll ever hear.
You know you're the King when you don't have to wear the headset.
You just gotta love Richard !!! So soft spoken. That is what I liked about Terry Labonte
"ya'll weren't even thought of yet" HA. Their dads weren't even thought of yet!
I love hearing Richard Petty tell stories of the old days of real racing and racers
The open wheel guys back then raced without roll cage hoops
The king has an amazing memory, especially for his age. I can't remember what I ate yesterday
You need to do a month long series here , just file the footage , these videos are golden !! Others are good as well , but these , talking about the history and the King is there confirming what happened and gives his perspective......AWESOME !!!!!!! Another would be Junior Johnson ,
The person i was waiting to see on this podcast
Me too!!!
Richard Petty without a doubt is one of the most respected figures in NASCAR. I remember when he said that if Danica was a guy, she would be out of a ride at Stewart Haas I think her 2nd or 3rd year there based on her performance and just about all the fans agreed with him lol
I believed it as soon as he said it lol.
He said that if she were a male, no one would have ever known she showed up at a racetrack and the only way she could win is if everyone stayed home. He was right.
Appreciate the legend Richard Petty while he's still alive!
12 dislikes from the group that got whooped by The King's boys, leaving Asheville.
My first NASCAR race ever was at Asheville-Weaverville Speedway and I saw Richard hit the wall. I thought these GOBs are crazier than hell. A different time altogether. Thought you had to drink beer, get as close to the track as possible and so on. I was sunburned, covered in red clay dust and nursing a bad head from the blazing sun and PBR.
Richard brought the car on a Dodge flatbed and stayed at a tourist cabin motel across from where I was staying. I was hooked on racing from then on.
Jr. needs to get the old drivers (DW,Foyt,Cale,Bobby,Donnie etc) and do like a roundtable and record it
TheNyarcangel , that would be great to hear all of them trade stories. Said before, I’ll say it again, Dale really cares about the history of the sport.
it's been done, it's on youtube.
@@Nitromessiah where?
Love listening to the Pettys!
Golly! I love that King! I wonder when’s the last time he said gimme a helmet and he run one around a track a few times during a practice or test session?! He’s the John Wayne of NASCAR!
He still rips up the roads in Level Cross around the museum. There were donut marks in the parking lot, where he took a reporter for a ride.
Dude I LOVE that. King Richard, ALWAYS stay on the gas and turn left four times!
The best a legend in nascar never be another king richard
He is a wonderful person who has such a history that needs to have all of his stories recorded. Back then they were some of the toughest people around.
Living Legend
Petty reminds me of my stepfather who used to race in Chester, SC. I asked him how that racing was and he said, "you better have big pit crew." I love the King and I hope his story is recorded because he has been through it, TOOK it and still smiles and spends hours with the fans. I know he is getting older and I hope he lives forever. Loved the JJ throwback scheme and love hearing Petty share his stories.
Love these stories . God bless the King 😊
Grew up going to Asheville Speedway on the weekends!
This man is the king of racing an it's great he is still there every week ♥️🙏🙏👍🥰🤗
Such good story telling. Real men getting messed up and don’t even know it ❤️. Petty is the King, but his wife, I love her, she is such an amazing lady!!!!
Richard Petty! The man.. the myth.. the legend.. missed out on going to his pig picking 2 weeks ago.. gonna regret that.
How awesome would it be to have clips, or pictures of incidents that they are talking about when watching these episodes!
The King is one personality that can never be duplicated. Legend isn't a big enough word. The #DaleJrDownload crew are professional enough to not just handle someone as big as Mr. Petty but also converse in such a way that makes him comfortable enough to be open and detail oriented during the interview. What we see in the #DJD is not an easy thing to create. Honesty is the foundation of Real. And my hope is this show continues for many years to come. And also #NBC and #NBCSN expands their #NASCAR coverage and keeps both their on air and behind the camera talents for many years to come. So much joy for us Fans by the world #DirtyMoMedia has created. If course both The King and Mr. Earnhardt, Jr. drove cars on a world-class level. And the 200 Cup wins record will never be broken. Having said all that, Mr. Earnhardt, Jr. is better in the broadcast booth than Mr. Petty was. Does this change anything? Of course not. But I do hope it makes DEJ and his team more confident in the product us Fans are viewing and enjoying. NBC too! God Bless, y'all!
Richard truly is an American legend and a man of steel. Some of his crashes including the Daytona front stretch and the Charlotte crash he's speaking of were absolutely horrific.
God bless the good ol days
He's probably seen it all in racing !!!!!!!70 years !!!!!!!!
Richard Petty, Dale Sr, AJ Foyt, John Force....I’d say that’s one Mt Rushmore of Racing!
Would swap Dale SR or AJ Foyt for Mario Andretti
No way
Aryton Senna?
I decided to see what Richard’s shop looked like next time I was near Greensboro. I pulled up to their shop in Level Cross and found Richard with young Kyle sitting on a riding tractor next to his blue garage. Decades later I happened to see him sitting in the American Eagle boarding area at Raleigh -Durham with his hatbox waiting to get a short flight to Greensboro. In both instances many years apart Richard was friendly and didn’t mind talking. He continues to be my favorite.
THE KING OF NASCAR RICHARD PETTY.
I like the way he says race car it's race cor
Thanks for the memories.
The KING
I always wonder where the king got that swag for his hats from I love em
If you ever get to his museum and shop, you can buy one.
@@corymcdermott5096 good to know, Mopar or no car
Hearing about Asheville, where I'm from and where my Grandpa went to watch the races, is cool, especially since the track is long gone now.
Ha! The drivers would smoke cigarettes while racing back then
Well yeah! NASCAR's main sponsor was R. J. Reynolds!
💨 🔥🚬
Dick Trickle had a cigarette lighter in his car!!
Richard smoked cigars. I was watching an old race on Speedvision several years ago. When they showed the drivers pics for the lineup, the King had a cigar in his teeth at a 45 degree angle with that million dollar grin. That cigar looked a foot long lol!
We need a ciggritt smokin driver back 💥🚬💥🚬💥
This isn't to seem insensitive AT ALL. But Richard explains to Dale about sudden stops vs rolling over and the one thought that came to my mind was, "I think Dale Jr. understands that more than anyone." I think 2001 taught us all that sad lesson about crashes.
Only if dale sr was here to tell the stories like Richard here
It's amazing that the drivers back in the day survived at all
His broken bones aren't in vain seeing the safety today.
you don't have to tell Jr about sudden stops hurting people
Yeah, that felt a little awkward for a moment there.
I cringed a bit, there.
Richard Petty has suffered more injuries than Jr ever even thought about
The best races with the Pearson Petty races
The KING!!!
Awesome!
I know this is about NASCAR but I have always had a great time and enjoyed talking to Al Unser at the Unser Museum in Albuquerque
I wonder just how many autographs the King has given over his lifetime?
The general concensus is, over a million
@@kevinheist4071 at the least. I once heard him say he learned his writing style when he took a class at a community college.
@@reginaldhall6871 I think I heard that too
It's thought that he has signed more autographs than anyone else ever.
@@kevinheist4071 Kyle has almost identical autograph style. I heard the King say once that he learned to control his pen with his shoulder so his arm & hand wouldn't get tired from signing so many
F*ck Yeah - The King!
Long live the king
Wish the hell he would write a book
Wish they wouldn't of closed the Asheville raceway. Had alot of good racing there.
It's not the crash that hurts, it the sudden stop at the end
Racing with a dislocated shoulder
For some reason this video made me search for a picture of Richard without sunglasses on
I don't remember one time of seeing his Eyes
I have a collage of pics of Petty through the years. Everything from a full beard, clean shaven, to a foo-man-choo, straight hair to curly hair. Think it's actually a magazine cover
I live close to the old Asheville Weaverville speedway location and saw the track in person . It was torn up in the late 1970s .
Hey.Michael.Check out Dale Jr show LOST SPEEDWAYS on Peacock Stream Channel. They done a episode on Asheville Weaverville Speedway.Robert Presley
Long live the King
Anyone know the year of the Charlotte crash they are talking about at... 2
:40 or a link to it?...Edit...Found it...1964 National 400
DO IT FOR DALE !! #2019
What is that intro song?
Do you think Petty knew the Mike would make that noise
No wonder Richard Petty is called The King
It's a wonder that Richard Petty survived all this.
Wow
👍
Richard petty broke his neck twice and the babies now complain all the time and they are as safe as a baby in a cradle compared to these old guys!
Pony-yak run good!

All due respect, the King's neck and chest look like some CGI from a Sigourney Weaver film...wild. Just sayin'.... maybe a different colour vest?
First
Woke n Petty. King of nothing.
Anyone who cannot see that Dale and Mike are working on history and trying to keep it a live...... well piss off!
