Thank you! I keep seeing people say how they didn't try to stop him when all I can think about is, he has their daughter! Fighting him risks hurting her. Like, come on guys.

@@paulrasmussen8953 The last time the heart was used it needed all the happy crystal pony subjects to channel enough power to vaporize him. They probably cant just use it on a whim whenever they want...otherwise Cadence, Shining Armor, Celestia, and Luna are really dumb for not trying it against Tirek.

Ok but to be fair? Shining armor was being smart by not picking a fight with THE GUY WHO'S *HOLDING HIS DAUGHTER HOSTAGE!*
This is what I love about villians like sombra... He messes with you on a psychological level before deciding what to do to you. He even makes sure to have traps set up to either slow you down or hault you. Season 3 premiere really did good on showing what kinda baddie sombra is and omg! I love it. That's a not just scary smart but a very resourceful villian. However I noticed that most times? He's a villian with little to no resistance. Shining armor and Cadence get a pass due to the fact he was holding thier daughter hostage. (Though in that same respect? They lose said points because where they keep the crystal heart: outside, at the base of the palace, and mostly unguarded. Yeah... That's not gonna cause problems.) Each time? Sombra takes over or invades successfully with minimum resistance from any pony else. I know he's supposed to be a fear driving tyrant but heres the thing... Some folks respond to fear with fight. (NO I DON'T COUNT THE GAURDS!) Rarely do we see the fight aspect shown, especially with sombra. Still love HOW he messes with you but I do kinda wish his oppents would resist a bit more.
Also... Took 8 seasons and a movie to get luna a throne along side celestia. "Meant to rule together" my tail.

@Jacob Bielski All they had to do was either show Sunburst(Since he's supposed to be her "Royal Crystaller"), or a pair of Crystal Guards knocked unconscious, or mind-controlled, and this would be a non-issue.
But nope. We don't even get a mention of Sunburst at all. What was he doing when Sombra came back, visiting his mom in Sire's Hollow?

In my opinion the most dangerous villains are those who can convince the heroes they are not technically wrong. They make the heroes question themselves and what they do, punching huge holes in their entire sense of selves and their motivations, which the villains can exploit. This is why I imagined Sombra to be the highly-persuasive type were he ever to regain his full power, and be able to rule the Empire. I also imagined that, being a being of darkness, he could control the corrupting powers that turned Luna into Nightmare Moon (in the comics these are the Nightmare Forces). An enemy that can turn one's friends and allies to their side with mere words would be incredibly dangerous and frustrating to face.
I think it depends o how you view the word "dangeoras", some use it in a differentlym mostly as "likely to cause harm"
I agree. It's a very dangerous ability to have. I think of Naruto and the infamous "Talk No Jutsu", which Naruto changes the hearts of villains to the side of good. Imagine if a villain could do that with heroes?
I think one of the biggest wastes in the series is the Pony of Shadows. I really thought King Sombra would seek more power if he was revived by Grogar, that he would learn of the Pony of Shadows and then seek it out. It would possess him for a moment before King Sombra gains control and becomes the big bad.
I love the fact that discord could've easily defeated Sombra , but he didn't just to teach Twilight a lesson 😄👌

@CartoonishIdealism. I mean, considering Grogar can raise the dead, teleport creatures out of Tartarus, and empower Tirek to look like he did after stealing magic from several ponies without it being much of an inconvenience, I could definitely see him being a match for Discord.
What I imagine, and also was mentioned on DrWolf's video, is that Grogar was the Creator of Discord, and Discord is pretty much like all the other fused creatures we've seen in Tartarus. The only problem with this theory is that even when Discord lost his power by the hands of Tirek, he didn't unfuse like the other animals did. My imagination would tell me that Discord would be like an experiment, that is an unicorn fused with different creatures, and Grogar actually holds the power to unfuse Discord and nullify his powers. That would be epic, but its probably not going to happen.

I personally found Sombra enjoyable too. He had a lot of confidence and was actually smart in how to deal with the heroes. Now if he had just mind controlled them, Discord would've also been easier to deal with

My Head canon for the first showing of Sombra was that his attack of the Empire was just his shadow, that's why it's speech was so stilted. I really wish he would have stayed an evil mastermind rather than a petulant man-child.

I like how when Twilight started freaking out, her friends just immediately started taking steps to help guide her through her standard freak-out steps, almost as if they've been friends for a _very_ long time at this point (canonically, one year passed between Friendship is Magic and Magical Mystery Cure, and season 8 seems to have taken place over the course of one school year, so they've been friends for at least two years, probably three, four, or even five depending on how much time elapsed between the end of season 3 and the beginning of season 8), and have developed a system for handling her freak-outs. Also, even though it was part of his plan, the way they came in like a well-oiled machine to curb-stomp Sombra also drove home the point that they've been doing this for a _long_ time now, and have a system clearly worked out.

This premiere two-parter was the *best* premiere two-parter we've ever seen in MLP! Goddamn! (in my opinion)
This two part premiere is without a doubt the King Sombra Encore we all wanted.
Also this season so far is turning out so good that if they keep this up it might be on par with Season 4 (A.K.A. the BEST season of MLP: FiM), which would be perfect for the show's season/finale.
To be fair, I think the reason they didn't try is because Flurry was in danger.

I just want one thing in this season: To find out once and for all where Spike's dragon parents are. Folks can go "But they've done episodes explaining how Twilight and company are Spike's family!" all they want. It doesn't change the fact that this question has loomed over my head since season 1.
They pretty much flipped Spike fans the middle finger last season with that Sludge episode. I want that mistake rectified with this final season. Is that so much to ask?

3:42 You know, as someone ho has suffered multiple panic attacks over the years, one while operating heavy machinery, I don't find Twilight's panic attacks to be funny. I also loathe the lampshading that goes on in this episode about them. I'm also not fond of Rainbow Dash outright stating what we've now pretty much known-Celestia doesn't do much of anything. It's annoying meta commentary that just makes me roll my eyes.
Can't wait to see your take on the 200th episode. There is a lot to unpack there but it is also a very fun episode.

Sombra, while arrogant to the point of foolishness, was quite impressive with what he can do by himself. All the while still being a blank flank! Seriously he has no cutie mark. Now I gotta wonder what his talent could've been along with what his cutie mark could've been. (I bet his cutie mark would've been his own face.)

I thought it was a great premiere, and with how effortlessly Discord dealt with Sombra, it makes me think something will happen to him in the finale to make it so he couldn't bail them out of a tough fight. I've always wondered why Discord didn't just poof away every problem, and seeing him turn Sombra's spells to confetti and butterflies was quite satisfying, but I'm sure this was set-up for taking away his magic in the finale, or maybe his magic just plain doesn't work on Grogar, time will tell.
Did anyone else notice that the outside of Groger's lair kind of looks like the villians lair in The Challenge of the Suprfriends?

People always liked that about Sombra. Unlike the relatable but misguided motivation of NMM, the apathy to any consequences of Discord and the somewhat justified motivation of Chrysalis Sombra is truly evil. All the others are not truly evil, just misguided, arrogant or have a legit point. Sombra truly is an evil force and nothing about him should exist.

This show is for all ages. Have you seen all the references to franchises meant for older audiences? They have Dr. Who, Slender, Metal Gear, Legend of Zelda, Bioshock, even a clear reference to Charlie Brown and the Peanuts Franchise.
I like the character of Grogar, he has that air of an intelligent overlord. As a writer, I know that in any story, one must get the villain right or else the whole plot falls apart.
Who do you think Grogar will Recrute next? My top 3 guesses are Flim and Flam, Gladmane, or Ahuizotl. If worse come to worse, he might bring in the sirens. hat are you're thoughts?
Two other interpretation is that even with all the breakouts, the attacks, the weird magical incidents this is in Celestia and Luna's view the most peaceful time recently or that they're so eager to leave that after a few months or a year with no major catastrophy they've taken that as the most quiet time in "recent years" i.e. since Luna's return.

if this was not a children's cartoon you can guess that sombra would have probably killed flurry heart,shining or cadence even all of them. If we do take the comics into account of being canon, Sombra had been redeemed and reformed. As such, is Sombra's comedic portrayal actually a ruse?
1. Celestia created a ruse, one of the largest in Equestrian history. Reformed villains would pretend to be evil again and join forces against Equestria.
2. This ruse was made to prepare Twilight for leadership.

I loved Sombra. His personality might have given me pause, but I can see the appeal of him being to on top of the world with his evilness. And I absolutely adored just how powerful he was presented to be.
Regardless of Cadence and Shining's roles, he managed to almost effortlessly conquer the C. Empire in what looked like an hour, went after Flurry Heart instantly, and made sure to brainwash everyone as fast as he could.
Seriously! People complain about Starlight being OP? Get a load of this guy! He destroyed the freaking Tree of Harmony in ONE SHOT, you tell me who's the real strongest unicorn in Equestria.
My biggest issue with how this episode handled him is that they didn't try to talk to him. I know everyone is sick of seeing MLP villains get reformed, and I am glad that Sombra wasn't, but considering the ones they've already fixed; Mane Six just suddenly going with the murder option feels conflicting.
Did no one think to ask, "But why is Sombra so evil?" It just feels like Twilight forgot that the last time she tried to banish a bad guy without knowing the full story, she nearly condemned someone to an eternity of demonic possession.
Personally, I wish that Twilight had given Sombra a chance to surrender. Then he could reject it and we could blow him up. Them trying to murder him first thing just makes me question if the Mane Six *were* attempting to kill Luna, Discord, and Tirek way back when.
to be fair, he HAS had a long history of being a dickhead, having acteed as a villain THREE times (once via backstory) and he, yknow, acted like a total asshole asides, AND mind controlled innocent ponies and forced them to fight for him regardless of wheteher they were soldiers, civiallisn, elderly or children. I cna see why noone really wanted to negotiate with the prick.
@@sarafontanini7051 Plus, unlike with other villains like Discord and Starlight before their heel face turns (regardless of how you think they were handled), he's not given any sympathetic motivation (implied or right out there), thus making it more justified when they straight up blast him.

Both good points. It was just a little jarring for me personally for the heroes to immediately attempt to blow him up after they've helped/reformed so many others.
I am glad that he wasn't reformed, but I just found it odd how quickly/easily they jumped to the violent option.
I haven't seen most of season 9, but a while back, when season 4 or something just came out, I read some theory (I can't credit them because I forgot who they were) that King Sombra is actually a Colt that got infected by some power or something, IDK, I don't know how plausible it actually is, but I've always kind of liked it in the back of my head.

Also have you noticed that when Discord this play Twilight on the throne she looked reminiscent to Twivine Sparkle: a reverse version of Twilight created by the tree of Harmony that was corrupted by discord, Magic yet wields dark magic parallel to King Sombra with the signature glowing eyes and ambition!

15:30 I agree that this episode is a 'manifesto' of declaration about where the season will be headed...the only thing that as brony I would have preferred is if Starlight Glimmer would have become an alicorn to create a stable time loop in the future (like Avengers endgame in a sort of way) where she acts as aged principal that keeps remember the lessons and lifes of her Mane 6 friends commemorated through monuments, books, movies and videogames (like in the famous fan video) to newer generations

When the show is over, maybe you should do some compare and contrasts with Filly Funtasia. Show that was release in Italy this year (coincidence unlikely) and since it has it's own fan base, it'd be interesting to see what friendship is magic could have very well ended up as.

I really enjoyed the premiere with the returning villains along with the introduction Grogar. So much speculation on his power not to mention his title of Father of Monsters.. Many a fans speculate if he made all those magical creatures we seen in the show before. I also love how he is totally no nonsense. Something The Storm King should have been. WTF i had no idea he voiced Demolisher....still his performance while fun the voice and personality is not what Sombra should have been i feel like it suffered. It also sucks Sombra probably wont return and also bugs me they simply couldnt say he was brought to life or was defeated/destroyed or killed. All the heroes i felt like they shine in some way though it sucks Starlight and Spike just gets cucked again. The thing with Shining Armor and Cadence not trying that can be easily excusable since their kid was in danger. I also find it a good and tragic note when you see the front row of brainwashed ponies behind Sombra. They are the important side characters to some degree. Starlight, Big Mac and the like. Makes it even more personal and even if you didnt catch it your brain would. I AM SO GLAD they have Discord not wanting to help which even implies why he wouldnt help in the past he wants them to be self reliant (though its obvious the writers didnt want to use him since it would be bad writing how stupid would you have to be not knowing this) I loved his speech and even with him saying he faking everything and getting upset he still says he believed in Twilight another good thing was how all the ponies show care for him too. The climax was just great if not suffered a bt by Sombra not brainwashing the mane 6. YOu could have easily have them brainwashed but them being saved by starlight and spike as they as main characters can be useful instead of just being cucked not to mention ruining Sombras tragic backstory from the comics cementing them as non canon also glad Celestia and Luna rescinded their retirement for nwo since that would be retarded and im not a fan of them pretty much forcing all this royal shit on Twilight but i cant wait to see how the finale will be and hope the show ends on a high note and hopefully shut up all the over thinking zealots.
Celestia and Luna retiring is pretty much the most stupid theme for a season in this show. What do they even mean by "retiring"? Even though the Mane 6 with their elements has more power than them, they are still among the ones with the most power in Equestria. If, for example, after they give the throne to Twilight, an enemy attacks and Twilight cannot handle it, are they gonna just sit still and don't bother to lift a hoof because it's Twilight's responsibility now? Also, they are still the only one who can control the Sun and Moon and the Dream realm. Are they gonna rip all of their magic out of themselves and put it in Twilight, and as such accept to lose their cutie marks too? If not, then what does retiring even mean? And even if they do, are they really expecting Twilight to handle both of their duties and all the politics and also manage her school, when they can barely manage their own duties as we have seen in The Royal Problem? This is complete nonsense.

@@Secret_Moon The difference is what was just said. They will still help in the same way they dealt with the forest. They will help by dealing with the threats. The only difference is the responsibilities of the empire. Protecting it is not the responsibility of the monarch rather of the kingdom. The responsibilities of the monarch they are retiring from are running the militia, setting up laws, enforcing laws, making peace with those around the empire, etc. Everything a monarch normally does

First you said they will still keep the sun and moon moving, then you said they also help defending the kingdom, then what else is different from the current situation? If what you mean is for Twilight to take up political duties like holding political summit and making peace with other kingdoms, then Twilight has been doing exactly that ever since she became princess. She established relationship with Yakyakistan, hosting the delegation in Princess Spike, have political visit to Yakyakistan in Dungeons and Discords, visit children in hospital in A Flurry of Emotions, holding the friendship festival in the movie, opening the school, etc. As of right now she is of the same authority as Celestia and Luna, and whatever role they do in politics, she can do too. They just need to ask her to do it. They don't need to "retire" to allow her to do it. In the real world, a king retires so that he can transfer his authority to his son because without it, his son cannot decide matters by his own without his approval. In here, Celestia, Luna and Twilight have the same authority. Twilight can decide whatever matter Celestia and Luna can, and even if Celestia and Luna retire, she will not gain any more authority than she has right now. That is not to mention them retiring from the throne will cause massive disruption in the government. For example, if Twilight resides as the only princess in Equestria, she will either have to leave her castle in Ponyville to come and live in Canterlot, or make Ponyville the new capital. What will she choose then?
