This was truly awesome Tom, what cool chord voicings and your wife has such a lovely voice. Before the pandemic my band had learned “I Know What I Like” from Selling England by the Pound, man that song JAMS. I hope we get to play it out 😕
@@ericbrewerguitar1499 I listened to "selling England by pound" twice yesterday. I don't understand why I'm the only 47 year old guy that I have ever met who can sing along with the entire first seven Genesis albums.I just can't help it man I've been this way for years I'm stuck in the prog rock 70's. Now I think I'm going to go walk off and listen to "in the court of the crimson King(an observation by King crimson)".
Uncle Larry is just a monster. He seems so sad unassuming and gentle that you don’t realize how off the charts he is when it comes to precision. He just plays the song like it should be played! THAT is the brilliance!
Snakesoap you really nailed it... went to school with him, his accomplishments and he hasn’t forgotten or snubbed any of his old friends. He’s the same as he was 30 years ago!
perfectionists take note. this Bukovac is the man and his wife is a great singer.. They threw an Iphone on a box in front of them and started recording... love it
I already loved Uncle Larry, been watching him for quite a while. I was very touched by your rapture, appreciation, empathy for this. Very nice. Great post. I’ll be back. Good stuff, from a fellow guitarist 🎉. Cheers friend. Btw; love that there’s this love and appreciation for the Prog rock I grew up loving. Genesis was great.
Brilliant! Go listen to Ripples by Genesis. It’s actually a huge piano piece with brilliant guitars weaving throughout. To break it down for one six string and still bring every nuance of the song to the table was a joy to watch. Amazing.
That's Nashville for you. The best way I can describe it is that the valet that just parked your car could probably play most session musicians in any other city under the table. You have to have to be a special talent, and be able to network like crazy, to really make it here as a musician.
Thanks for doing this song. Tom and Sarah really nailed Ripples. I went off and watched some of his guitar videos and he's my new favourite guitarist. Beautiful singing too.
Thanks so much for all the lessons and for pointing us toward Bukovac. I spent hours last night watching all his videos. He's so good at communicating the important things in music.
I love watching Uncle Larry play. He looks like he is trying to curl up and crawl into his guitar as he's playing... like he wants to literally become the music. I hope he doesn't have back problems from this amazing posture.
Hey Michael. I started to watch Tom yesterday. As an intermediate player I’m loving his videos. I also appreciate musicians like yourself appreciating others and showing no matter what level of player you are, you always learn something new. Thanks mate.
Love the imagery in the lyrics and the movement like ripples in water. The chords are beautifully crafted. Thanks for the awesome reaction today, I am going to look into this guy more.
Love the video! I found you through Tom’s homeschoolin channel. Love how you work through this tune - inspiring to see an obviously gifted musician grooving on another gifted musician. Building bridges! Thank you brother.
It's emotional stuff, Tom is just such a pure player. Michael thanks for what you share with us. I played this album a thousand times and heard for the first time today!
This was amazing, Michael! I heard about Tom’s channel in June, then rewatched everything I missed and has been must watch viewing every few days. I used to think I was a prog junkie growing up on King Crimson, ELP, Pink Floyd, Yes, Rush, etc. but watching that video from Tom made me a Genesis super fan at age 31. Masterful chord work. I give you credit for still posting this considering how much harder it is to figure out by ear than standard jam band stuff.
Thanks for recognizing Tom. He has been one of the most sought after studio guitarists for major recording artists in Nashville for over 20 yrs. Legendary player in that scene.
Michael just discovered you thru this video . Thanks for breaking down Tom's playing. I've been watching his channel for a month or so. Another youtuber Rhett Shull turned me on to him and because of that now I've found you. I guess I should practice instead of watching videos but it's so mesmerizing. Have a great day and thanks again.
Watch your channel all the time. Thanks for the great videos. I went and watched some of Tom's videos, going to watch more of them. Look forward to your next video.
Michael, yes, Tom’s arrangement/version here is spot on with the original Genesis version from their 1976 album, Trick of the Tail. It’s as if we’re hearing the isolated acoustic guitar track. Tom is amazing (understatement!).
Ripples is one if not the very best of all Genesis songs and I love all of their music, especially in the 70's era. Just the guitar work itself is so elegant and gorgeous! Tom does a magnificent job playing it. with such finesse and ease.
