Several of me want to thank you. The 13 year old who talked dad into buying his first guitar. The one who covered your songs for 30 years in clubs. The one who teaches his granddaughter and a number of other youngsters to play. And the 58 year old who still needs a JT song to calm down after a hectic day. All of us thank you for your kindness to show us these techniques.

I still play it the same as how I learned it in ‘82, until I saw this. What in the world was I thinking 🤔. And here now I got front seat instructions from the man himself. Thank you, sir. This is I think the most efficient way of online guitar teaching. It’s very natural perspective wise. This song chords completely ceased to being Rubik’s cube at this time. I am overflowing with joy. Not lonely tonight.

Dearest James...I haven't picked up my guitar for about 4 years now, sadly...until today. Having always plunked and winged it over the years just learning songs well enough to fake it and entertain those who couldn't play at all while still enjoying myself and having fun.
Today I decided to really learn how to play properly. The first song I turned to and that I wanted to really learn is yours..."Don't let me be lonely tonight". This song moves me deeply still after listening to it all my adult life. The jazz chords sprinkled into the warm picking adds a beautiful complexity to the tones and the lyrics tell a melancholy tale of complicated relationships (at least that's what I get out of it) that many of us know too well.
I was blown away when I stumbled across your video here showing how to play this masterpiece and I cannot thank you enough.
I'm gonna practice this until I can play it well enough to do justice to your amazing music and others can come to love your gift of your music to our little blue planet.
    Thank you so much James
    Cheers
    Greg

Wow who better to learn from than THE MASTER himself . James always has some unique styles that were hard for me to pick up being a “by ear” player so this is “God’s gift” to me to hear his amazing guitar work and relaxing voice. Ive loved James Taylor since I was a young boy in the late 60’s. Thank you James. You are a generous man , people like Henley and Frey would probably charge us 100+ an hour if they even allowed their music to be viewed. Truly you are a generous kind man among men, loved and revered by so many. I hope I can see you at least once more before I check out of this world if God will have me. I hope We can meet in the hereafter and jam a little, what a gift that would be . Love to you my Friend, Best Wishes. Take Care!

Wow , not only the most beautiful music but also the only tutorial video I have ever seen that shows what is played from the point of view of the performer( something which I would have thought to be an obvious method of filming such a project but is never done by anyone else, thanks and well done James, here again you are atypically( for most tutorials) rational in the concept of presentation- I wish more videos were filmed this way ( and how wonderfull to hear these beautiful chords and picking in a way that one can learn from( sorry about ending that sentence with the ungrammatical " from")I was twenty when you recorded this, and having played guitar for ten years, working on Peter Paul and Mary songs, I was fascinated and moved by your sheer dedication to your art, which to me was just music, not pop or folk or rock - just music. I laughed when you recently performed Whichita Lineman, and amusingly to me credited it to "a country singer named Glen. Campbell". At the time I laughingly wondered if you would object to being called "a folk singer named James Taylor"! Just kidding! I love all your stuff as well as many Glen Campbell songs and others just as Music! After all I'm sure you will agree that it is only record companies that ever " divide and conquer" by classifying everything into what they decide is a genre that they can sell to a target market. I remember when reggae was called " calypso" and Ralph Peer and others like him had the say in deciding what was "folk" " country" or " blues" or whichever label( no pun intended) they felt would better catogorise their intended target market( usually along racial lines) but I never cared ( much to my band mates' displeasure) what any genre was as long as I felt moved by it, whether the late Beatles , yourself, Joni Mitchell, or Jimi Hendrix, or the Dixie dregs. It all adds joy and love to my life!

Gotta be my all time favorite James Taylor tune. "Fire and Rain" could be thought of as his signature song, but some of the best songs of an artist can be hidden by the brightness of a signature song and many times, signature songs can be driven into the ground or played too often.
