I walked into my AD for a casual chat and there it was, a Sinn U50 Mother-Of-Pearl LE staring at me in the showcase. Apparently, it got sent to that particular boutique by mistake. Bought it in a heartbeat.
Sinn is new to me in a video review. I own a watch with a Selita movement, and strange enough my other watches have in house tikkers. Is my watch with Selita bad? No. Back to Sinn. The U50 with the special treatment looks strong. Quality for everybody. Special thanks to Johnny, took a journey in these times, going in quarantine to make later this video. Waiting so long for the Sinn, i waited 107 days after i bought a Tissot at an online watch store.
Nice to have Johnny back and with a Sinn to boot! And, that's the most exact explanation I've heard of the tegimenting process.... you must play with something besides guitars. Also, bravo for calling out those who diss non-inhouse movements. By the way, the Sinn Hydro series, EZM 2B, are water resistant to 5K meters due to their oil filling.
Thanks for the kind comment. I did a bit of research on metallurgy, grades of hardness etc. before buying the watch. As for the Hydro series, that's the ones I had in mind. There are tested to 5,000m, but they should be able to go even lower, as being entirely filled by a liquid should make them virtually impervious to pressure.
@@johnnyguitar6697 Loving it so far, it's my 2nd Sinn along with an 856 UTC. Going to enjoy on the bracelet for now, got an erikas on the way, and I need to decide if I want the full size or small clasp for the rubber. Cheers!
@@Saenek Funny, I was thinking about getting an Erika myself for this watch. Black with a red line, or grey with a red line. As for the clasp, the full size one is very nicely made, and I enjoy it on my 7" wrist. I just wish it was a little bit thinner, as it is a bit thick compared to the height of the case.
@@johnnyguitar6697 I got the black one with red *and* white stripe, covering my bases lol. I have small wrists (6.5) so the compact clasp might be more appropriate. Thanks for the info!
I had the fully tegimented in black but I couldn’t get a good fit, wish there was 1 more micro adjust hole. I ultimately didn’t enjoy wearing it or really connect with it. I decided to just have my G shock as my “beater”.
Try the silicon strap. I have the big clasp version for the U1, the butterfly for the U50. You'll have a very comfortable experience, also some micro adjustment.
@@looplop thanks for the advice! I actually moved on and realized I’m not much of a dive watch sorta guy. Just have my Explorer 124270 and Garmin Forerunner 245 Music now.
@@triniboy05 Good choices! On the DIver's side i also like the SAR Rescue Timer as it has no rotating bezel, doesnt look to much as a diver. Just love the robustness of these things, compared to my vintage datejust, or my chronos etc. All the best!
I'm probably gonna get the fully tegimented version, it seems a bit silly though because it's quite close in price to a blue BB58 which is beautiful (both are very different and give you different things) and plus the movement in a BB58 is 4 Hz and has a 70 hour power reserve. The other thing that bothers me is the handset, once my warranty period is up I'm probably going to see what the U50 looks like with the UX handset.
Merci du compliment! Un français marie a une anglaise, ayant fait la majorite de sa carriere a l'etranger, et qui passe la frontiere allemande a chaque fois qu'il fait un footing chez ses parents. Ceci explique cela.
It's interesting that you mentioned Ocean 2000. I share the same opinion. U50 resemble so much of Ocean 2000 in style only wish it is made in Tegimented Ti
I think it's actually 42 hours for the Sellita SW300-1 in this watch. It doesn't bother me too much at this price point, and it is about the same power reserve as my Rolex Explorer II 16570 that I love. Would I have preferred 70 hours like in the Seiko SPB145? Certainly so, but not at the expense of having a poorly regulated movement. Plus I have a watch winder that keeps two watches wound, so it's easy for me to have a rotation between the U50, the Datejust and the Explorer II.
Great video again Uptick. Love the humour you're introducing recently. This watch was on my radar recently and I like that your guest explained the benefits of tegmenting really well.. just a question, do you know the lug2lug dimensions or maybe your guests wrist size? I didn't like U1 as its too big. I've a 6.5" wrist. Cheers!

Really enjoy these episodes with Johnny guitar, maybe another one talking about your new datejust and comparing it with 36mm and other dial colours
It’s coming, we had a good two-hour chat this time.
Sinn is definitely a cool beater
I just got my U50 on black rubber yesterday and I am absolutely thrilled with it....I actually slept with it (consensual). 😜
I'd wear it to bed too, if I wasn't afraid of knocking my wife unconscious.
lol, i did too!
Good to see JohnnyG back. Fun little interludes.

Good pick. I like the SDR version too. If you haven't ordered it, I highly recommend the rubber strap with a tegimented deployant.

It is a very good bracelet. The clasp is just good too, but kind of outdated. Their Silicon Strap clasps are VERY good!

Did Johnny have any thoughts on the power reserve? That's my main gripe with this watch, 38 hours is so low if you have this in rotation!
