You don't mess with a major in covert field operations where rogues and 8-balls are welcomed. It was also a total gift to the Major in solidifying these guys into a unit.
R.I.P Lee Marvin (1924-1987)✝️🇺🇸🎖
Rip Donald Sutherland 2024
Franko is loving this. It isn't often when you get to stick it to a Colonel.
“No sir I am not going to shave, sir!” The most powerful line in the movie. Really showed how tight the group had become.
I just realized after watching this scene again that Maggot does nothing to help his squad mates. Between this and the picture scene, a nice bit of foreshadowing.
Others are crooks, but Maggot is just crazy.
@@vksasdgaming9472 I am no professional psychologist but I would say Maggott is the only one of the dozen who is actually psychotic. He is an outsider even in terms of the outsiders that the Dozen are - he actually holds it against Reisman that the major's intervention has prevented the others from receiving just punishment. He can be seen smirking when the others disarm guards but actually doing it himself would probably be beneath him, in his view.
@@stevekaczynski3793Fine analysis. The other telling scene with Maggot was when Reisman and Posse squared off in the knife fighting exhibition. Maggot: "STAB HIM!"...never forgot that scene.
Maggot is not violent except when it comes to immoral women then he becomes violent
Maggot is the one truly disturbed individual of the group .
Lee Marvin was a real marine. Before he died he was offered a place around L A to be buried( with many other stars). Marvin respectfully declined and is buried in Arlington with his fellow soldiers and fallen patriots. God Bless
Not a soldier, a US Marine different breed altogether
@@gilbertlopez183 I stand corrected, Sir. God Bless
@gilbertlopez183 as an retired Army Infantryman, this is true. Marines guard the Gates of Heaven
I love the dialogue between Franko and Col. Breed, and Col. Breed's look of total disgust, when the Dirty Dozen take Breed's weapons (and have a lot of fun in the process.)
Interesting that the "Grease Gun" Marvin is using has two 30 round magazines taped together. Pretty ingenious.
That's common.
Though I question the use of white tape.
We did it in Vietnam I did it with my Owen Gun in 66 and with my SLR in 68
@@miscponderations1014 It could always be blackened with boot polish
It's actually a stupid idea look at the position of the bottom magazine , rounds can come out or dirt gets in there ..result is a stoppage
The grease gun inexpensive to manufacturer, but actually a very well made
Col. Dasher Breed you mean. This is Robert Ryan not Robert Webber. General Denton was Webber's character. This is Col Breed.
Lee Marvin and the dozen just brilliant
M3 grease gun, I had one issued to me in 1982 at Ft.Ord. The date on it read 1943, built by General Motors hydromatic division. Gun worked just fine.
Whoa; that's pretty cool. What round/ calibre did it fire?
@@vectorm4 .45 acp. Same round as the 1911a1.
I met a guy in the Massachusetts National Guard a few years back, he told me they still have a few of them in their arsenals.
In The Dirty Dozen, many actors including Lee Marvin use the M3 Grease Gun replace Thompson
I had a Owen Gun 1943 with 9mm 43 ammo It would not penetrate 5 ply.
1:41
I felt like that part between the MP and the prisoner was unscripted and that smile by the MP was actually real
1:13 - Franko slapping that guy! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
THIS CLIP HAS THE WRONG DESCRIPTION/TITLE . It is Colonel Breed doing the inspection NOT General Denton!!
I like the exchange between Posey and Bowren at 1:39
Franko is the best character in this
John Cassavetes steals every scene he is in
Great movie!!
Sometime it takes a rebel to unify a group
Not in my time in the service The rebel disrupts discipline
I love this film, but mother of God that ADR is trippy.
A Classic iconic movie 57 years later ,R I P Lee Marvin ,Ernest Borgnine,Robert Ryan all who starred in the 1955 Thriller Bad day at Black Rock with Anne Francis and Spencer Tracy with memorable and Powerful Performances .
R I P Telly Savalas and Clint Walker to name a few stars no longer with us .
Long live The Dirty Dozen as one movie that shouldn't be missed .
Sutherland recently died may he rest in peace he was the last of the dirty dozen leave this planet
Good movie to watch and there real true military stories like that movie is based on as well
Einer der besten Kriegs Filme. Vielleicht auch der beste. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Only thing better than this scene is when the win the capture the flag contest and laugh in Breeds face HAHAHAHAHA
Southerlan,Brown,etc.Fantastic lineup.
If anyone is interested, that's a 'Grease Gun'. M3.
i enjoyed watching the dirty dozen back in the days. But, it was so long ago, I forgot who the actor was. Some, I didn't even recognize. although, some look familiar.
The actor? Are you drunk?
Stop by anytime Bozo
Marvi's leader , Sharpe and Hannibal Smith- I'd have them as CTM leaders at the co-op anytime.
Saw this at the drive in with Mary Poppins as the double feature.
Donald Sutherland , 88...has just joined the Dozen in Heaven
Don't call us, we'll call you
rest in peace Donald Sutherland.
Maggot died in the first film but became the leader in the second
When Robert Ryan hits the deck, you can see the lining of his raincoat ...... definitely NOT military issue (LOL)
They used the same in Patton.
Interesting point, worth investigating. If non-regulation, maybe he had an extra lining sewn on by a tailor. US servicemen in the UK during WW2 often complained about the damp cold of the climate.
And, if you look carefully, you’ll see that his rank insignia are wrong. The eagle should face frontwards.
Pretty ballish to go to another commands base and give orders
I remember being a cockey marine look like a hockey player now missing teeth equals brain getting smarter😊
Not so pretty today and definitely not in a fighting mood.
Some 'Special Help' surely showed that.
Problem is I like Robert Ryan too much 😂screw you unshaved bastards 😆and don't give me your outlaw crap this mornin 🤌
gæ
The general, after the war, was in law enforcement and was killed by Michael Corleone
But, he went out eating the best veal in the city.
Different Actors. Robert Ryan here, Sterling Hayden as Captain McCluskey in The Godfather.
Second
Drop by anytime Bozo.....🤙🤗😂🤣👍
5:09 Aaaaaaaaaahhhhh 😍
Wow nice❤️❤️😍
