    Holy crap, I remember seeing this when I was a kid. We were talking about it at school the next day, I think. I never thought that I'd be able to see it again. For me, this video clip is like a miracle.

    If I recall correctly (at my age, the mind tends to get a bit fuzzy), he had a closing skit on this special where he thanked the audience for inviting him ‘…into their living room…’
    A few moments later, a Producer handed him a note listing the ‘…people who didn’t invite him to their living room.’
    He then goes to each house asking the homeowners ‘why not?’
    U have to see the scene to appreciate it, but wow, what a LOL funny skit.

      I like his bit when he tells the audience "I'd like to thank everyone for coming to the show tonight" and proceeds to point at each person really fast and saying "thank you" to every person one at a time quickly.

    I'd totally forgotten about his routine but once I'd started watching it the 'sandwich in the shorts' part came back to me immediately. Classic Steve Martin.

      You’re obviously young if you don’t know who Steve Martin is most notable in the 1980s and 1990’s. Although he is still acting in a few things today… “Only Murders In the building” 2022 to present. being one of them. Look him up his most known movies are father of the bride part 1&2, dirty rotten scoundrels, cheaper by the dozen.

      It was from a 1 hour special in, like the 80's. I remember a western sketch with Stother Martin and he couldn't stop from laughing. He literally was gasping for breath and couldn't say his lines.

    You can literally tell how old Martin is by his grey hair:
    24 yrs: No grey.
    27 yrs: Half grey.
    30 yrs: 3/4ths grey.
    30.5 yrs: Totally grey. He looks about 28 in this video.

    Sad to me that i see no comments about the fact that the legendary Carl Reiner was one of the sportscasters. He was a huge part of much lf the comedy deceloped in sitcoms in the fifties and sixties. They didn't try to make him overtly funny in this show because part of the humor was for the audience recognizing it was HIM impersonating a then well known sportscaster.

    As impressed as I am by the quality of Steve’s cannonball, time moved on and he was clearly outclassed by the Top Bombing of the UK’s Peter Kay, or John Smith as he was known at the time. His remarkable performance can be viewed on YT.

    I can't believe I once had to explain to some twenty year olds who Steve Martin is. They only recognized him when they realized he was the guy that did the remake of the Pink Panther. I died a little that day,
