  • No Car Left Behind Episode #1. Here join host Dee Vyper and the Mad Max Cars crew as they rescue this beautiful 1965 Rambler American 440 from the Junkyard and give it a new lease on life. Looks like this one was truly saved from the crusher. We love to take take on a 50+ year old car that was unceremoniously dumped at the wrecker and save it, but thats what this show is all about..... Taking the time to care about our Automotive heritage and save it for the next generation. Welcome to... No Car Left Behind.

      Thats what we thought too! One of our guys was there picking up a hood from that 71 Mustang you see in the background and brought back photos. We were there the next day to save the little beauty. Glad we did. It would not have survived long in that place. Thanks for watching and for your comment!

      I haven't seen the complete video yet, but this may have been a case of the owner dying and their survivors not wanting the hassle of a 55 year old car.
      Example? About 10 years ago one of my uncles died leaving his beloved Model A for his daughter. She spent a lot of money shipping it from Florida to Vermont but really had no interest in it...it was just a part of her father that he bequeathed to her. She died 2 years later so it reverted to my aunt, neither her son or her grandsons wanted the car. No one wanted to pay $20K for a car that wasn't a practical daily driver.

    IN In Argentina that Rambler ended up being the TORINO ... and was manufactured approximately until 1966.
    The engine fits a cylinder cover of Jaguar v 12, and over the years power was taken to exceed 250 hp.
    It is an iconic car in Argentina until Renault (evil French) did not want to manufacture it anymore. See this from 1967 ruclips.net/video/uX5IhjprWxA/видео.html

    GREAT, REALLY GREAT! THANK U 4 RESCUE ABANDONED CLASSICS BEFORE THEY GET CRUSHED! :)
    I think rescue classic cars is the most importand Job in that time, because crushing classic cars is a big crime. They are also the last US Classic Cars what are what tell the History of Detroit, the History with the best tecnology about Cars & produce cars and are in a Budget for new generations of young Car Guys :)
    I'm from germany & i really wish i life at USA, because i'm sure i would so the same thing Like you: rescue classic cars from the crusher!
    It's a soo great good thing that you could find so many Classic Cars at old or abandoned junk yards or else at USA. Because when i think about that i can see the crime behinde the "Recycling Mafia" = governmental regulations for Recycling...then you know why especially at Germany you couldn't find abandoned or old junk yards with Classic Cars. The governmental regulations of EU & Germany had stolen all the beautiful Classic Cars for all Car guys, especially for upcoming generations of car guys.... and when i looking at USA i see there are so cool Junk Yards with Tons of parts or whole cars. At Germany we restore the badest conditioned Cars & bring them back to Life, because we can't find Classic Cars in better conditions. So it's also the big problem to get used parts what nobody, No Industrie is producing them for Classic Cars... :(
    ....yes, i Wish i life at USA to rescue abanoned Classic Cars, especially US Cars! Because I Love this cars with the great History behinde Thema, -oh how cool it was when Detroit, Michigan was made all those beautiful Classics!
    In this Moment i've a father son Project. I got it from Ohio USA, it's a '67 Chevy Caprice 4 Door Hardtop and we rebuilded so much sheet metal and are restoring the Body of this beautyful fullsize 4 Door Hardtop. It's a lot of Work but I think it ist worth because every of those US Classic Cars have to drive in Future too! :)
    We rebuilded all fenders/wheel arches, many sections of the windshield frame/s,... All in "cuban Style" ;D = all only with Hammer, and the own hands to get back a Rust free, very nice condition... :)
    I know how much work it is! I know how many houres are necessary to restore a unrestored Classic Car from the 60s... They Made so great Cars at USA in this time! The best ever made i think. :)
    I Like especially 4 Door Hardtop's because it's so cool, so beautyful when there is No B-Pillar between the Doors. This Bodystyle also have a really nice shape at the roof/roofline i think. It's Like looking like a big, great Coupé with 4 Doors. And it's also a Thing about the History because when i looking at the good old days there was so many beautyful 4 Doors, but today most Car guys safes/rescue 2 Doors or only Muscle cars. & Soo many, too many really nice 4 Door midels, often also in a good condition goes to the crusher or will used to get parts for the 2 Door Models. That's very sad i think! :(
    I hope to see you rescue more Classics from the crusher! I will subscipe, Thank YoU 4 your job!
    I Hope

    Would be interesting to hear/discuss what could be done (within reason) to modern day expectations. Good braking via the installation of disc brakes (front at least), suspension mods, replacement of bushings, bearings and whatever to make it handle. . . again keeping in mind benefit vs cost ratio. Presumably air conditioning could be retrofitted without distorting the original interior. With regards to the motor, a modern hi-energy ignition system, longer wearing items installed if it is a complete engine rebuild. My guess is putting in a budget to what is feasible and do-able without losing your shirt. . . perhaps $10 to $15,000 dollars to make it a daily driver. Is any of the above realistic with the budget constraints? I'm fascinated by anything mechanical, but lack the skills to come anywhere near the total project described!

    • @MadMaxCars
      @MadMaxCars  4 года назад +1

      We do actually go into / do a lot of those things in other videos on our channel. $10 to $15 K could do many of the things you mention. The question essentially becomes what does the owner want to do with the car. This particular car would not benefit in resale value from those types of upgrades, so it would be best suited to do them only if its a "keeper" and the owner does not car about getting his investment back in resale. A lot of other car would support that kind of investment on resale. The goal here was to revive the car to what it had been before going to the junkyard. A low cost, mostly original, daily driver quality classic that would be fun and worthy at club gatherings and show & shine events. We hope to find a new owner who will love and care for it. What they want us to do (or do themselves) at that point will make a great follow up video!

      We were certainly shocked to see it there as well. It sure looked like someone was caring for it before it got towed in. Still it needed quite a bit more than that. Rear wheel was locked us as you can see. Fuel tanks smashed in by the years forklift at some point. Wiring ad some definite issues that needed sorting. The all the hoses, belts, fluids, rebuild the carb, all the tune up parts, etc. Still it was WAY to nice for whomever to just have it junked. Probably someone passed away and whoever inherited the car did not care to fix its issues.

    I had a 64 Rambler classic 660! I bought it in 2000 with 62000 original miles. It had a 195.6 cubic inch straight 6 cylinder. It was so easy to work on. It had tappett covers on the side of the engine. All Access to pretty much everything. Then I spun a bearing and try to do a rambler V8 swap. I was only 20 at the time and got in way over my head. So I sold it. I just found the car on Craigslist last year with a 4.3 L Vortec in it. It's funny how taste changes over time

    • @MadMaxCars

      We were quite shocked to see it there as well. Our guess is that whomever owned it passed away and the family had it towed off for scrap because nobody wanted to deal with a 50+ year old car that had issues. One of the wheels was locked up and other problems, so they probably just got rid of it. Sad, but that is our guess.... Apparently it happens all the time.

      It was in BEAUTIFUL shape overall. Even had parts and a manual on the floor. Must have been like Grandpa's car or something and the family just did not care to do anything with it and just called a wrecker. Shame, but at least we got to save it!

    I WOULD LOVE TO OWN THAT RAMBLER - American motors cars are always poo-pooed as something not worth owning - but they were decent automobiles if you took care of them.

    • @MadMaxCars
      @MadMaxCars  4 года назад +1

      They were really cool cars, and dependable if cared for for sure! If you are interested in having it, we are looking for its new "forever home". We are offering it for around half of its value and offering the new owner to be part of the follow up video if they would like. You can reach us at www.madmaxcars.com and see its listing in the classified section there if it is something you are interested in.

    A buddy of mine had a 66' 440 American convertible, factory V8 car for short time. It needed a fair amount of rust repair, but was a reasonably presentable driver. The AMC club told him it was super rare as the convertibles were only made in 66' and very few were ever optioned with the V8, and didn't even believe he actually had one (said they only knew of 5 still in existence). When he sold it he couldn't hardly give it away.

    • @MadMaxCars
      @MadMaxCars  4 года назад +1

      Wow, a 66 Rambler 440 ragtop! SWEET! Yeah they are rare and worth almost 2x as much as this little hardtop here. Still, you nailed it, Ramblers have a very small niche interest group. Hard to sell. We are offering this one for about half of what it should be worth, along with an appearance in the next episode if the buyer wanted to, and no takers so far. Thanks for watching and for your comment!

      Wow, cool. It could have been. We have been trying to find out who the previous owners was through the Rambler club of America as ti has a club decal in the window and "Orphan" car show participation plaques in the interior. It was somebodies well cared for classic once. Would love to know the history on the car. Did your Grandmother's car have the green interior like this one does?

    Great video. You wouldn't believe how valuable these cars are here in Argentina! Here it's called IKA Renault Torino. It's basically a Rambler American "tuned-up" by Pininfarina.

    • @MadMaxCars
      @MadMaxCars  4 года назад +1

      COOL! Those cars must be amazing! We are so glad you like the video. I am guessing these little Ramblers are not quite as valuable as the IKA Renault Torino though!

    • @Lucas_Tulic
      @Lucas_Tulic 4 года назад +1

      @@MadMaxCars Exactly! That was my point. This car in the U.S. is not sought after as a muscle car, although is a pretty good car with good lines. But when you're up against Mustangs, Camaros, Corvettes, Challengers, Cudas and all those awesome cars from the 60s-70s, you're screwed basically! Hehe!
      Right here, they didn't have that many to fight against. We had the Falcon, the Chevy Nova (Cupé Chevy here) and the locally made Dodge Polara GTX and the IKA Renault Torino (aka Rambler American) was as popular as the others. Now all those cars from that era are almost collectable pieces, really pricey!
      I've already subscribed. I wanna see this car road worthy again. Cheers from Argentina!

    A rare and clean 1965 Rambler American 440H with the big six and an AMC Rambler Club sticker in the windshield found sitting in a junkyard? This has got to be a setup. In any case, I say leave it stock. Not only is it an extremely rare model, that big 232 six will pull that little car around extremely well.

    • @MadMaxCars
      @MadMaxCars  4 года назад +2

      We were totally shocked to see it there. We can only assume someone who owned it passed away and it was sent away because nobody wanted to deal with a 50+ year old car. We do plan to leave it stock, as it is pretty strong. Still it will be up to whomever steps forward to be the new "Forever Home".
