@@dragonslayer7740 well I'm not sure. Most of whats played on tour is the Chrome Soft X, the majority of tour pros playing the Chrome Soft are on the champions tour where the Tour B RX is prominent. I'd just be curious to see which category it fits closer to.

@@mrmovess_ yeah I watched the whole thing now and I agree with you. Weird that a company would make one premium tour ball and one premium “slower speed” ball. I prefer what Bridgestone did. But then again, maybe Callaway know that the market in the Tour ball spectrum is just too saturated for them to have 2 offerings.

The chromesoft has been my ball for a few seasons now (even played the Hex Chrome for a good while). I actually can tell (when I find other premium balls in the woods and give em a go) that it's the wrong ball for me. But it's so dam soft and quiet when I hit it.. I just love that! I miss the premium soft balls.

@@brendan859 it's a fair question... i really like the tacky soft feel of the CS when i hit them. You can really tell theyre tacky. Plus, i buy them in large quantities when they're on sale as x-outs....so the price is pretty low (about $20 per dozen), and I have a ton of them. ;) Maybe the next time i order more balls, I'll be brave and get some of the newer clickier premium options. The provs are such great fliers off the driver!

I can't go back to Callaway after the quality issues they had. I spent most of last summer thinking my swing was the problem. Went to MTB-X in the fall, and got back 15 yards. At best I am 270 off the tee, on a hot day, with baked fairways, and an elevated tee. In other words, not a bomber. Played a round with my usual Truvis in May last year. First 3 holes, each drive was over 290. One we measured at 330 yards! Holy crap. Sign me up for the tour I thought. Lost the ball on the next hole, pulled another ball out of the sleeve, and never hit a drive over 240 for the next four months. Would centre the face on a swing, see a great initial flight, and the ball would have a late 30 yard fade, or fall out of the sky. Even people I played with would comment on what they also thought was a well struck ball, but only getting out to 230. Right now I'm getting 250 out of a 96mph swing speed and so off season speed training is on the agenda. However at almost $60 a dozen, I would have appreciated a coupon towards newer balls once Callaway discovered substandard balls were pouring out of the factory.Even a lousy $10 off just to say sorry would have been appreciated. It also seems that this was a bit of a industry secret as well because I only found out about the issue this past spring via My Golf Spy. I don't recall seeing golf magazines splashing this all over the place. If it was well publicized at the time I simply did not see it. Had I known the ball had issues, I would have switched sooner and had a less frustrating season.

callaway would 100% tell matt to look at the csx. the csx20 is the best ball i’ve ever played. it’s long, it spins perfectly around the greens, and for me it’s acceptably durable. also people need to realize distance isn’t just achieved with speed. launch and spin play a factor. so just because a ball may be slower (because it’s softer), it can still travel a fair distance with higher launch and lower spin.

I must be the outlier here as I’ve not had problems with the ChromeSoft. I admit I originally bought them because of Truvis (prefer yellow/black) but they perform fine for me. The downside for Callaway is I don’t buy as many balls as I might have otherwise because the only ones I’ve irretrievably lost are those that found water.

I've played the Chrome Soft for the last couple of years, nice feel and I love the truvis, easy to find, and great feedback on backspin.
But I just don't trust them anymore. Both in the sense of, is that my mistake or the balls? But also that they cut corners at the factory yet still charged a lot of money.

This is the only ball I can actually spin backwards and I LOVE the feel. It is sooooooo soft, omg is it soft! I fucking love this ball. And the way you can feel it compress of the face of the driver and shoot forward so fast is a great feel about this ball. Have I mentioned this is my favorite golf ball???

  • @justinstephenson9360
    @justinstephenson9360 4 года назад +1

I have been trying to find out what the compression of this year's Chrome Soft is...according to Callaway it is 10-13% softer than the Pro V1 which would imply a compression of 75-80 (Pro V1 being 90 according to google).
I have a problem with the whole idea of soft is slow - the data simply does not support that conclusion. Even MGS admit there is no correlation between ball speed and compression for mid irons and the "wrong" correlation with wedges (ie softer is faster!). So they are left with a weak correlation for driver only, then only at the higher swing speeds and a correlation which completely disappears when you analyse the data for statistical significance.
Then there is of course the issue that ball speed is merely one component of what makes a great shot...there is also launch angle, back spin, peak height and probably 2 or 3 other components that only TXG could explain properly. So to fixate on ball speed is rather odd.
My take is that every golfer will have a golf ball which works better for them across the bag. Compression is not really the determining factor for that golf ball.
Applying this to the actual test, depending on the number of balls hit 4.5 mph difference in ball speed would seem to be statistically significant (c.2.6%). I suspect the video is completely correct in that Matt is simply too fast for this particular ball and there is a degree of over-compressing the golf ball. So what we can say about this test is that it shows fairly conclusively that this is not the best golf ball for someone like Matt

I used both all year...full shots close enough... chipping prov1 is 10x better for me...the chrome soft comes out like a knuckle ball chip for some reason where as the prov1 has expected height and nice spin that is predictable. I can can get the chrome close to the hole but i don't like the trajectory or the spin control. i am way more consistent with the pro 1. I really wanted to like the callaway ball as I use a full bag of callaways. Not to be but worth the experiment this year. Might try the chrome soft x but Prov1 is very very hard to improve on.

I have mixed feelings about this ball. I have historically been a ProV1 devotee but decided to give this pill a try. I tested it within a simulator with 50+ full bore driver swings. To my dismay, the ball eventually split directly down the middle. I have had similar sessions with my ProV and nowhere near this result. For context, my ss is between 115-118mph with ball speeds from 165-170mph. By no means tour level but enough physical punishment on the ball to stress test it. I called callaway HQ and they were shocked and agreed to replace it. Not what I expected from a ‘premium’ ball. To be fair, on the course I love the performance. Not the longest ball, BUT the workability is really impressive. I have been able to draw the ball easily and the ball flight is relatively penetrating. Decent feel / spin with the wedges and very good feel with the putter. The verdict, this is a solid stable performing ball and that has questionable durability. Would I replace my ProV1 for this ball, not a chance. The Chromesoft will be my winter ball not my club play ball. I will test The Chromesoft x next based on my swing speed / ball speed.

Hi! Great content as always! As a beginner I'm a little overwhelmed by the huge ball selection, and I'd appreciate some insight. TLDR: Any affordable(ish) balls that spin well, even at the cost of distance?
I play Pitch & Putt with holes with maximum distance of 120 m (130 yd), which I consistently overshoot with a 9i, so distance is definitely not an issue. Greens are also quite small in general, and most of the time my ball rolls all the way to the back even when I hit the fringe at the front. This makes me think I need a grippier ball. I've been playing Inesis Distance 100 because they're 6€ a dozen.
No brand will say "this ball trades off distance for spin", but I think that's exactly what I need. Is there such a thing?

For the price of a chromesoft compared to the other big boys, I can’t understand why anyone would play it over a ProV or TP5. I find them on the course and put them in my junk ball pocket in my bag. This ball is the same price as other premiums and is by far the worst of the 3

      In Europe :
-Chrome Soft are 49 euros (Chrome Soft Triple Track are 55 euros)
      -TP5's are 58 euros (TP5 pix same price : 58 euros).
      -Pro V1's are 59 euros.
So they are between 5 and 10 euros cheaper than the 2 other premium brands. It's not a lot, but for some people that's a psychological point.

      In Canada (not sale prices):
      ProV1's / AVX are about $65
      Chrome Soft $64
      TP5's $60
      Bridgestone Tour B's $60
      Srixon Z-Star's $50
Over the last year I've switched from TP5 to Tour B ... didn't feel a difference in performance, just loved how easy to spot/track the yellow Tour B's are, and like playing something different than my partners ...

      Australia
      TP5/X $73
      ProV1 $70
      Bridegstone Tour series $68
      CS2020 $67
      Z Star $50
Me, I'm buying up old stock of 2016 or 18 CS for $40. Used them for 4 years now, maybe not the very best for me but I know exactly how they'll perform and I love them around the green and off the putter. 95mph driver speed, 14 hcap, durable enough for me, lose them before I retire them, but can easily get 3 rounds out of one before it ends up in the practice bag as well.

Not trying to be a smartass, but would one notice a difference between a 55 degree wedge and 56 degree, or would the player dependent dynamic loft prove that everyone’s swing is different and the relative wedge angle/degree does not matter....

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  4 года назад +1

You’re correct the dynamic loft is the determining factor, you would use static loft based on how much dynamic loft the player delivers

Callaway golf balls got it and now it appears Srixon according to MyGolfSpy ....makes me wonder what expectation should the consumer have when buying "Premium" ball, should there be a defective guarantee? Or do we just continue to suck it up. "This is my ball. There are many like it, but this one is mine. ... I must fire my ball true. I must shoot straighter than the course who is trying to eat it up." #getballfit Thanks for video appreciated!

Its hard to argue why titliest has become the standard. The ability to pick a ball out of a pack and know that ball is exactly the same is the next ball should be the standard. Golf has too many factors, variances golf ball to golf ball that would dramatically effect performance are unacceptable

Wobble balls! I had one that corkscrewed through the flight. I cut it open to find the core incredibly off-centered. Callaway knew they were selling garbage for years, yet continued to sell them. Never again would callaway get my $. Pro V1, TP5, Tour BX, or Z star only. Callaway balls go into the lake when I find them.
