Remember when schools used to buy Mac computers for their school computer labs and households used to have them as "family computers". Now every kid gets their own ipad or chromebook when they're 5 years old and are now technologically illiterate despite being raised with so much technology.
Apparently, even college kids nowadays struggle to perform relatively basic functions on a computer. As someone who has had Windows, Chromebooks, and Mac computers, this completely flabbergasts me.
I feel like I living in such an opposite reality every time this subject brought up…to me, Windows to Mac switch was the reason I escaped from “technology illiterate” phase of my life.
Yes, and whatever is true now will change in a few years. Who knows what the next thing to gripe about will be for those who like to hold on to the past, and who knows what wonders await those of us who enjoy the present and are open to the future as a matter of principle, before it’s even here 🤩
Typing this on my new M3 iMac and I absolutely LOVE the display. I think the 60Hz refresh looks plenty smooth and TBH I'm shocked that anyone would be unhappy with it.
My Lenovo laptop died, and I wanted to buy an Apple product. I wanted a desk model with a big screen. I'm tired of small screens and small keyboards. I'm 73 years old, and I need larger text. After watching your video I think I'm also going to wait. I made a trip to an Apple store. I was disappointed that prices were not displayed with products. I also felt that their salespeople were not paying attention. They seemed to be distracted, looking around for more potential customers. They were also easily interrupted by other salespeople more than once. I ended up leaving, and now I'm glad I did because I've had more time to look at a few RUclips videos and found some more, unbiased, info about Apple products.
I agree with the point about faster display. I am no power user, apart from gaming, all I do with all my computing devices is chrome/safari/edge, but I’d argue 120hz is more critical for web browsing than it is for non-competitive gaming. All users deserve 120hz screen, it should be made mandatory.
You say that, but I use a 120hz iPad and 120hz iPhone and when I use my M3 iMac, at zero points do I feel like I'm missing out on something (screen wise). I just get on with using it and don't notice refresh rates etc.
I just bought the new base model iMac last night with the M3 chip. I have no idea what all those specs it supposedly should have are all about. I just know I haven’t even turned on my old iMac in about five years so whatever the new one comes with will be an awesome upgrade. When I bought my old iMac back in 2015, I asked several advisors at different Apple stores which computer they owned and all the ones I talked to, mainly younger guys, owned none at all. This confirmed what I’d read about in the news: that a lot of people no longer see the point in even using a computer. I use my iPhone for EVERYTHING from banking to keeping track of all my purchases to buying things on Amazon or whatever online store I need, to watching TikTok videos to learning about everything under the sun on RUclips to reading hundreds of books on the iPhone Kindle app to you name it. I will only use the new one to more comfortably see my thousands of photos and 4K videos I take when I travel.
I can’t tell the difference in the higher refresh rate. I’ve got a 14 Pro and a iPad Pro that are supposed to have this 120hz refresh rate. Nada. Can’t see it, it’s a non feature to me. What I can see is the iMac’s 4.5 k display which is excellent! It’s way better than the display on the M2 Air I just bought. I’m actually kind of disappointed in the display on the Air after looking at the retina display on the iPad and M1 iMac.
I hope apple will bring out a 27 inch version again with black bazels, with the white bazel it looks kinda cheap also with the small black lines on the outside from the panel when the display is on
I have a late 2015 intel i5 27” and would love to upgrade but only 24” screen now. I’ll keep waiting too, unless my Mac gets so slow, then I’ll get a Mac mini with a dell 27” monitor.
I was in the same boat as you. Had the larger screens since 2008 to 2013( then bought a refurb in 2020 a 2015 5k), then just bought the M3... I got used to the screen within an hour honestly. I put the display setting to "More space" What I ended up realizing is, my first iMac back in 2008, those ones were also 24in.
@@PromotingTheBeat very interesting, thank you for the feedback. I’ve always had a 27” never the 24”. Once the fanfare of the holidays are over I’m going to go to the Apple Store to see it in person to see if it’s something I could adjust to as well. I didn’t know the new one had a “more space” setting.
@@BUDS228 yea it’ll take it up to 2560x1440. Always remember apple has a policy that you can return it within 2 weeks also in case you hesitate thinking you might regret buying it lol.
Hello. Could I offer the idea of perhaps looking into the Mac Studio instead of the Mac Mini if you plan on getting a souped up Mini? The prices on both of these are within 100 USD/euros between the most souped up Mini and the base Studio. The base Studio is more powerful so you'd be getting more bang for your buck!
If Apple made these screen 27 inches would bay it i think the screen is too small its 24 inches, I am doing video editing and Daw work great video thank you.
Frankly It feels like a rushed and careless update. Throwing a new processor version without changing anything else is not much of an upgrade. When and if they’ll offer a bigger screen all-in-one then I’ll consider the investment.
But Apple will claim that M3 vs M2/M1 is a huge upgrade. And in all fairness, M3 single-core performance is noticably faster than M1/M2. But Joshua is testing a $1900 USD Mac. For that money, the GPU should be much better!
Apple is rotten to the core Apple is rotten from the core.... and RAM deep into Consumer's pockets! I have purchased my last Apple product, fool me once; shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me!
Who else would like to see an even smaller screen than 24 inch. Perhaps 21? I mean 24 is a good size however not convinient if you would like to travel with it. And no I don’t want a laptop.
So I bought the M1 last year 16GB and stupidly bought 256GB - I’m constantly running out of hard drive space I use external drives when I can but I do wildlife photography with each picture being 50 megapixel. my M1 struggles to even scroll through pictures on Lightroom. Is it stupid to upgrade to the M3 with 2 TB of storage and start over with a better set up.
I have a 24-inch iMac with M1 and I used it as my daily computer everyday nonstop for just basic use nothing very professional level. I got no problems with it especially when using like crazy non-stop. I have one question ask you as to why you buy the 24-inch iMac with M3 if you are wanting a higher refresh rate and the iMac Pro. Because I can tell you that there would no be no iMac Pro with Apple Silicon, cause that wouldn't be happening until year goes on.
This is my first iMac, I got the 16gb of ram with 512gb of storage. It runs amazing for everyday computer use and light photo and video editing with no hiccups. I use my iPad Pro 12.9” with a Magic key hard for on the go and work. Definitely will be getting a pro model if it ever comes out.
I agree an M3 pro and M3 max chip for the iMac would be incredible. The specs that you selected/have a pretty solid for future proofing. All Macs should have age least 90 herts refresh rate displays. Apple should have made the accessories USB-C not lightning which was a poor move. They are probably trying to get rid of all the remaining lightning items. The mouse could be way better but that's beside the point. I like how pronounced your voice is. Very clear and your breakdowns are very digestible. Good video, presentation and explanation. Keep up the solid work.
Hi Josh Valour, kinda off topic question from the Mac going back to headphones here. Is there any chance you could do a revamp of your review on the Monoprice Monolith M1060 open back? I feel with the new knowledge you picked up over the years we could get a more detailed picture of whether this headphone is something consumers would want to check out today especially at its new price point. Additionally if you do make a revamp, it’d be cool to see comparisons to the Edition XS and Ananda as I’d say these two and the M1060 are the first of the big planars people may pick up as an introduction to the higher end. PS Thanks for the reviews, your reviews are what really got me interested in audio and the ever increasing production quality just makes them fun to watch
trust me if u have a base m1 mac mini you can “ stream games on both twitch/youtube - use 2 monitors for your gaming setup - ps5 remote play - studio recording/video recording/editing “ you can really do a lot 🔥 and upgrading from there is even better i can imagine 🤙🏾 that m1 chip gone last me a good while haha
