Playing half life 1-2 and portal 1-2 was a primary coping strategy for managing our ptsd before it was diagnosed. Both games resulted in us falling in love with insanely powerful forces of chaos, and unknowable mind breaking enigmas. Barney is neither, but he does, owe us a beer. And he is a great friend to all players.

I agree. The Half-Life and Portal series (as well as the Team Fortress series) were/are a coping strategy for my PTSD too. I've also always thought that Barney felt like everyone's friend. I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking that!
I hope you're doing better now and I'm glad you found a coping strategy.

@@PeakPeakPeakPeakPeak It means post truamatic stress disorder, we have complex post truamatic stress disorder among other things, it's a truama based disorder that affects some people. It can develop from a variety of life circumstances such as childhood trauma, repeated psychological, sexual, and or physical abuse, it can develop from physically or mentally intensive environments. Not everyone who experiences the same truama will develop a truama based disorder. Factors like the environment, and genetics can play a big role as well. Therapy and psychology can help treat ptsd in some people. Exposure therapy and emdr can help.
For us jungian psychology ideas like shadow work were insanely helpful in handling our ptsd.
Truama is not largely understood by modern society at all. People with truama are often retruamatised.
Before we were diagnosed with c-ptsd, and D.I.D playing video games such as half life 1,2, became a strong coping mechanism. We're not dependent on that coping mechanism anymore. We still appreciate half life alot. It felt like a game that symbolically portrayed a lot of themes we could relate to. Trying to escape from a cage. Trying to escape from a society that treats you as a battery to be used and thrown away.

Gordon with Alyx is fine because they probably didn’t even meet when she was 4 before the resonance cascade, because Gordon was a new hire.
Meanwhile, Barney was part of the resistance for Alyx’s whole childhood. It’s equivalent of an uncle congratulating his friend for dating his niece. Which is a little weird.
