    One of the few things I miss about not working out of Braintree, is a large sandwich called a Huffer. They’re made or were made daily and sold by 10:30ish. The Huffer’s defining feature, is that it’s baked to be triangular and approx. 10-12” corner to corner. Made of soft bread and filled to order in front of customer. One of those could keep you going for the day.

      Thanks DC! That sounds like a giant sandwich - not sure I'd be able to ride a bike after eating that monster! 😁

    Hi Jeff, I enjoyed the video again as always. I'm glad our trains looked after you well again. That is a really nice stretch of canal, very well landscaped and looked after plus a lovely day for you and the Brompton too. Interesting fact about the cill in the lock, I always wondered what those white lines indicated. By the way, an excellent quality, well full sandwich, it has to be said. I do have a feeling that it may have played a little part in you acquiring your puncture 😂 I've been out about 4 or 5 time since I purchased my bike and on two occasions I've packed my backpack with all essential including the puncture repair kit and set off without the backpack, easily done I suppose. I've got Slime in both of my tyres which apparently helps against getting punctures from small nails, thorns etc. It maybe worth trying it yourself, that's if you don't already use it. Anyway Jeff, I hope you are successful in getting a mooring at Droitwich Spa Marina and you must be getting excited knowing that Gladys will be on the water soon.
    Take care Jeff, see you in the next one 👍

      Hi Dave, thanks as ever for the comment! Yes, a lovely canal, although a downside to winter mooring in Droitwich would be if the CRT closes any of the 30 Tardebigge locks for winter-maintenance - which means I could be stuck unable to get out.
      Hmm... yes, it was a weighty sandwich Dave - but see DC's comment below to hear of a much bigger one!
      Ive never used slime yet. Punctures are a pain in the backside but usually quite rare,, famous last words eh? The main lesson I learned is how to remove the back wheel on a Brompton - which is quite involved. And also... dont forget to carry a spare!
      Yes its getting close now - but after all the delays so far, I'm still holding back on the excitement - so as I say often Dave - keep those fingers crossed mate!!

    Hi Jeff, what a fantastic day you picked to catch even more lovely vlogs 😊 sorry to hear that your Brompton getting a puncture 😮
    Noticed that the grass is well maintained by the locks, looks nice and manicured.
    Not long now until you are on the Canal Network yourself and you will be part of the admiration of others.
    We are looking forward to your Maiden Vouge..... we wonder where from and to?😊
    As always take care and stay safe out there 😊
    John.

      Hi John, Yes, a lovely day weatherwise and a great place to visit!
      Getting the puncture was sod's law - I mean, having carried no spare tube etc that day. But I fixed it ok after getting home and rode the bike this week as you'll see on tomorrow's video.😊
      Things are still looking good for one day during w/c 19th August as the launch. Where from? Well... somewhere in the middle of the country I guess?! Haha! Don't worry, I will be videoing Gladys's arrival at the marina (on the back of a lorry), and her first dip into the water. Just be patient a little longer John!👍

    Oh no, typical that the first time you forget your puncture kit you get one, bad luck Jeff & on a hot day too.
    Enjoyed the video it's a nice stretch of water, there's no way I'd want a boat as long as the one using the winding hole, far too restrictive re certain areas.
    Those crisps look gorgeous & they're vegan too so I'd love to try them but no stockists round here as far as I can see.
    Oh boy, getting so close to Fun with Gladys (nod to Sheldon on Big Bang Theory), I can't wait!

    • @Gladysthenarrowboat
      @Gladysthenarrowboat  6 месяцев назад

      Hi Annie! Thanks as always for the comment. Yeah, it was sod's law, wasn't it?
      The boat turning was a 70 footer I guessed - way too long for what I'll be doing. But it looked like there was a few couples on it. Biggest I've driven was 61 feet and it felt long at first but you get used to it.
      I think you can get those crisps in Waitrose if you have one nearby. Our nearest is in Abergavenny, so I don't get to eat them as often as I'd like!
      'Fun with Gladys' sounds like a title I might use! Keep crossing those fingers, I hope to give an update next week. 🤞🤞🤞

      Make sure you take plenty of money when you go Annie - its an expensive shop as you probably know! Hey - while there though, treat yourself to a packet or two of their Yum Yums...scrummy!

    Hi Jeff, great video lovely canal path 👍 shame about the puncture, maybe worth you investing in a set of schwalbe marathon plus tyres, probably better for the canal paths.

    • @Gladysthenarrowboat
      @Gladysthenarrowboat  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Iain! Glad you liked the video! I couldn't find what caused the puncture after removing the tyre and tube and it seems to be directly on the seam of the tube - so possibly it was a tube failure, I dont know. Up to now the Marathon Racers have been bullet proof but I'll keep your suggestion in mind if it happens again, cheers ! 👍

    Jeff, I notice that your warning signal is a single 'ting' rather than the traditional 'ting ting'. Is there any reason for this?

    • @Gladysthenarrowboat
      @Gladysthenarrowboat  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi John - and well observed. The bell is an expensive accessory and I really dont want to wear it out prematurely - hence I am economical in its use.
      As you will have noticed though, a bell is ineffective in alerting some people to the looming threat, fast approaching them from behind... some people walk about with i-pod things in their ears for example, so a last minute death-screech is the best option - just late enough to make them jump 😁😁😁😁

  • @MadisonTen
    @MadisonTen 6 месяцев назад +2

    Bad luck, Jeff. But look on the good side, it didn’t happen 20 miles away and hopefully didn’t tear the tyre open. Hope it’s all repaired fine.

    • @Gladysthenarrowboat
      @Gladysthenarrowboat  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks Madison. Yes, it was sod's law. It was a palaver removing the rear wheel, owing to no quick release and also having to remove the hub gear attachment and chain tensioner... I had to look it up on RUclips!
      No evidence of a hole in the tyre or tube, just air escaping along the seam of the tube.
      Oh heck, if I'd had to walk longer than I did, it'd be a disaster! 😒

    • @MadisonTen
      @MadisonTen 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@Gladysthenarrowboat oh wow, may be a faulty tube then or a pinch. I guess just replace it and double check the inside of the tyre for anything spiky. When I used my old bike some years ago, my 25 year old chain snapped - five miles from home 🤭

    • @Gladysthenarrowboat
      @Gladysthenarrowboat  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, it may have been a weakness in the tube's seam, which ruptured slightly as I rode over a stone... cant actually see a hole, just hear the air. Inside of the tyre was nice and smooth and no debris or evidence of a hole.
      Agghh... I had a chain snap once... oh, back in the late 80s - out training one night, and like you, about 5 miles from home! Lucky I wasnt out of the saddle at the time!!

      @@Gladysthenarrowboat- Visiting friends on IOW one year and passing a farmer, who kindly advised me to use a different route, as he’d just flailed the hedge. I said I’d can on and not half a mile further on I got a puncture. But fortunately I had it fixed in 10mins., (Blackthorn hedge). The rest of the week went by without a hitch.

    • @Gladysthenarrowboat
      @Gladysthenarrowboat  6 месяцев назад

      yeah, Blackthorn hedges are notorious if they've just been cut. I recall being out on a club-ride in years past, and several of us puncturing at once along a country lane where the hedges had recently been cut 😠😠😠
