I know how much you are looking forward to getting Gladys on the canals. I hope you won't have to wait longer than the beginning of spring. But I really enjoy your walking tours of the canals, and the history of their existence. Looking forward to your next video and more information about Gladys.
Hi Paul! Thanks for the comment - I'm so glad you enjoy the canal walks 👍. I really wish I'd started doing them years ago, as I enjoy making them! But rest assured, once Gladys hits the water, I will still be doing walks and bike rides - it wont just be me desperately trying to avoid crashing the boat into locks and canal banks (although there will be some of that too, I've no doubt!). Hopefully have good news about Gladys very soon 😁🤞
The first lock in Bath is not the first lock. As it is the Avon and Kennet navigation . So the first lock is on the river Avon from Bristol. The last lock will be before the Kennet flows into the Thames.
Hi Jeff. I see Newport Station has a Selfridges Birmingham stainless steel tit styling effect, definitely not to my taste, I like oldy worldly looking stations. Lock 7 to start the canal does seem strange, I wonder where locks 1 - 6 are. Bath Deep Lock is a seriously deep lock and I'm not surprised that there is a geared windless assist to help open those gates, as you say they must be really heavy and hard to push. The buildings and surroundings from 13 minutes into the video are spectacular as is the brickwork along the canal. I imagine that lady doing the gardening is a good swimmer and somewhat fearless, I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable that close to the edge with that drop. Some nice boats along the canal and the towpaths are great and make for a nice days cycling on the Brompton me thinks. A future video may be? I really enjoyed the video Jeff and the still pics too, Bath is a beautiful place and has a lovely stretch of canal. Lets hope you do get some promising news on Gladys soon, it's been a long wait and no doubt frustrating but will all be worth it when Gladys sets sail. See you in the video Jeff and good to see the subscriber count is still rising 👍
Hi Dave, Thanks as always for the encouraging comments! Yes, I agree completely about Newport station. Another viewer, Brian, has commented below about the lock numbering - it IS confusing, but apparently the lower numbered locks are further down the Avon towards Bristol. In any event, the Deep Lock is exactly what it says! Very deep! I almost shouted out to that lady who was on the wall - to say be careful, - but realised she may have turned suddenly if I did, and fell in - seems too much of a risk as far as I'm concerned. But then, I'm not a gardening fan... I am hoping for some good news about Gladys - stay tuned Dave 👍
Very nice vlog Jeff it looks very pretty in Bath I take it a lot of those boats were o permanent moorings as I wouldn't have fancied moving them especially the wide beam with the wooden frame on the front and the garden centre on the roof, Glad you went to Swindon it was HQ for about 16 years of a company I did 40 at Happy memories, Hope you have some good news on Gladys, " Free the Aintree oñe".lol take care Rob.😊
Thanks Rob! Yes, Bath is very pretty - but sadly, in my experience, its usually full of tourists! The canal is nice and wide but I was surprised at the state of some of the boats - as you observed! I'd not give much for a ride on some of those - actually it was quite sad looking at some of them. Swindon is good - I'd like to visit the railway museum there some day (I think there's one there?). Keep watching - I may have some good news for you very soon about Gladys😁🤞
Hi Jeff, Newport is a lovely place to visit I always thought it to be very upmarket in that neck of the woods. Nice shot of the passenger train passing you. Again great editing as always. Thanks for the vlogs you entertain us with , as usual entertaining and enjoyable info. Have you heard anything from Aintree boat's about Gladys? They seem to be dragging their feet. As always take care and stay safe out there 😊
Thanks John! yes I worked there for many years, so know it quite well. Glad you liked the train-shot - I had only one chance to get it right! And thanks for commenting on the editing - I enjoy doing it but it is very painstaking work. Really nice that you appreciate it though - thanks again 👍 Fingers crossed - but I have had some good news about Gladys - confirmation should come on Monday. I'll post an update then!🤞
Hi Barry. Yes, hardly anything was moving. I did see one other narrowboat on the move, but there were some small children on deck, so I thought it best not to include that one.
Yes indeed - the bridges and tunnels were very impressive. I did know about the bus before I went - but the legroom on that one was just no good for me - and roadworks on Globe Roundabout were terrible! Still... half the enjoyment for me in making these vlogs is the travelling there and back!😁
Good morning Jeff, how beautiful Bath is from the canal, it's a very attractive city but nice to see from a different aspect. I hadn't realised it was so hilly either, I've only ever seen flat parts. One thing that really struck me watching the video is the vast difference in the boats & some showing that there are people living on the water on very low incomes just about hanging on to their homes somehow. I hate to think how safe some of them are for their occupants. Thank you for the video which was a welcome distraction from a broken heart as my beloved little 16 year old cat left us this week after 10 years of her unconditional love.
Morning Annie, First, I'm very sorry to hear about your cat - its awful losing a much loved pet, as I know only too well.❤️ Glad you liked the video - yes, Bath is well known for its beautiful buildings but not many will know of the canal. You're spot on with your observations on those boats - I was really surprised seeing the state of some of them, as I'd anticipated the K&A as being quite a posh canal - maybe it gets posher as you get closer to the Thames and London. Some of the hills I saw were really vicious - would be a nightmare on a bike ☹️ Thanks for commenting Annie - your thoughts are always welcome. 😁
@Gladysthenarrowboat Thank you for your kind words about my lovely girl Jeff, much appreciated. I've always pictured the K&A as posh too, some of the boats looked likely to sink at s moment's notice. Have a lovely weekend & we won't mention the G word for now.

Been ages since I was in Bath, not just passing through. Hills, yes hills.
Hills - yes indeed! Nice place, lovely architecture... but oh, very very crowded ☹️
The first lock in Bath is not the first lock. As it is the Avon and Kennet navigation . So the first lock is on the river Avon from Bristol. The last lock will be before the Kennet flows into the Thames.
Hello Brian - thanks for clarifying that, - it was puzzling because the K&A canal sign was situated next to lock 7. Cheers.👍

Loving them as always 😄

Must have been a slow day on the canal Jeff it took 27mins before we saw a boat moving along?
Hi Barry. Yes, hardly anything was moving. I did see one other narrowboat on the move, but there were some small children on deck, so I thought it best not to include that one.
Such a pretty part of the canal with its intricate bridges between the tunnels. Shame about the bus but at least you managed to get there.

Well Annie, I may have some news about the red, floaty thing known as 'G'... I'm just waiting for confirmation. Stay tuned! 😁
@Gladysthenarrowboat Ooooooh, exciting!!!!
Hopefully hear for sure on Monday 🤞
