    A message from a Muslim brother to my Sikh sisters: if a Muslim guy tries to use this excuse (the one mentioned in the video) to go out with you, all you have to say is "isn't it haram (forbidden) to date at all in Islam?". Simple. It's not allowed for Muslims to even date one another I.e. Pre-marital relationships, so how can a Muslim date a Sikh? They can't, the religion doesn't allow it.

      Stop with the "brother" stuff, ok!? Your Allah says that all Sikhs (non-Muslims) will get nothing for leading a great life but brutal barbaric torture! You'd NEVER treat a brother that way, so you are better, more compassionate, than your god is. So you don't really need him. You're better than he is.

    It's not about religious superiority. I think the point he was making is that practically we uphold our religion as the most right - that's the reason we follow it.
    (Just as Muslims see Islam as the most right path.)
    So if you are a Sikh, you adhere to standards of Sikhism - which in your mind are the best way to live. If you marry someone of another religion, there will inevitably be more mismatched ideas of how to live and what is important and all that. If you marry a Sikh (though even that doesn't mean you'll see eye to eye on everything) you'll be holding each other to a similar standard.

    Edit- *It’s been 3 years and my views have changed since. I think it would be hard to understand each other’s religion but if there’s enough communication then we can try and be compatible still. Religion is not my priority rather what this religion represents is my priority.*
    I understand totally that its about compatibility. If my partner is obstructing my path towards something that I love, i.e. Sikhi, I must not destroy that love for a mere person.
    I’d rather be unmarried for life than engage my life with a Sakat (One who doesn’t believe in God) or a person that doesn’t have faith in the Guru’s.

      Bibi Mina Ji !
      This video was about a wise explanation to shut down an offer from men of other religion who wish to drag a Sikh woman's religion (concept of gender equality in Sikhism) as a logic in getting a date with her.
      You said,"Don't bring religion in to it, even if that is the reason". But as may or may not have noticed, the scenario addressed is when a man initiate 'the dragging of your religious belief' into the conversation, what choice a wise girl should make; meaning when a man is using your religious belief as a pick up line or something, than choosing to simply ignore may not work and also a religious women with an awakened soul may not want to choose a lie (already have a partner) as an option either. That's when the information shared in this video will come handy.
      This video like many others is a resolution to a specific scenario.
      Thank you for your comment anyway.

I agree having this knowledge is a positive. Be street smart as well. In any circumstance someone is bothering you the main plan of action is to get away from them and get to a safe place. • @minakalsi4232
      @minakalsi4232 9 лет назад +8

      I'm from the uk and I know what's happening. What I'm saying is girls from all backgrounds need to be street smart and not let guys get in to their heads in the first place. They shouldn't have to explain themselves to some guy. Plus if the guy has a wrong agenda in his head I doubt the girl giving him all this information will stop him. He may use his new knowledge on sikhism on some other poor defenceless girl.

    Women in Islam have equal rights to Muslim men, cultural beliefs combined in Islam is a different thing,, that's where some people confuse the two, in Islam women can divorce a Muslim man just as easy as a man can divorce a woman if she's unhappy in their relationship, and the same goes with other aspects of Islam regarding equal rights, so my point is the two shouldn't be confused, cultures and Islam, check on it don't take my word for it.

    • @basicsofsikhi
      @basicsofsikhi  9 лет назад +8

      Matt Chapman We have nothing against either of them, however an agnostic seems more rational, since he or she is not yet sure, whereas an atheist seems to have made a belief based on likelihood rather than certainty, ie a leaf of faith ;)

    • @jyotharsingh371
      @jyotharsingh371 9 лет назад +2

      Basics of Sikhi the colloquial term for agnostic usually means somewhere between an atheist and theist, the actual meaning means a person does not "know" if there is a god, atheist means a person does not believe there is a god, you can be an agnostic atheist as you don't know there is a god but you don't believe in one
      As for the atheism being a leap of faith, atheism is the default position and all other religions are the ones that make the leap of faith (also it is impossible to be certain about anything [except self contradictory things] as it is impossible to have 100% of the information)

    • @guruword8378

      Roughly, It says "Marry the daughter to a Sikh, do not give or take any dowry".
      Back then, and to an extent event now, the marriage of a child was decided by the parents. Also, it was a common practice among Hindus and Muslims of the time to give money/pricey gift or receive it in exchange for the daughter. It was as if, a daughter was property. This Hukam (command) forbids such a practice because it treats a woman unequally, disrespects her, and is sexist.

    • @MrManpreetsinghK
      @MrManpreetsinghK 9 лет назад +2

      Gee! Thanks, I didn't know -___-
      it still applies, it doesn't matter if it's the 21st Century or the 18th, there is no restriction to any time frame. So the arguments of 'today and tomorrow' don't apply. Remember, this is Sikhism, not Islam, Judaism, or Christianity, we have core religious rules that are universal and aren't affected by time whatsoever.
      Secondly, why are you asking me if you want to marry her? You can, because it's possible. I'm guessing she's not Orthodox/Observant/ i.e. Khalsa? If so, then she's not really a practicing Sikh in the first place, mostly just a Sikh in name, so there is no conflict with her faith, since she doesn't properly practice it in the first place. However, you might encounter problems if you try to marry into a Sikh Temple or Gurdwara, because the Sikh marriage ceremony is for Sikhs and not non-Sikhs and it is a problem for many. So if she isn't practicing the faith in the first place, then we really don't give a flying rat's ass. We don't force anyone to convert to our faith.

    This seems odd!!!!
    you want to marry me? bow down to the one I do.
    If you cant for any reason, then sorry to say ,you are not worth me.
    I have no idea when people of this earth will use more of their sense and believe less in what people said thousands of years ago.
    Sorry to say this mate, but this is pure negligence. I hope I dont offend anyone by this.

    A number of contradictions from your channel. One minute it doesn matter what religion were all in the next yours is the best - preaching supremacy and then dismissing everyone else who does the same in their religion

      Selective hearing.
      "FOR US, our religion is the best."
      FOR SIKHS, sikhi is the best. Get it? It's all love.

    So much crap, this is just a hate preacher, u can marry Christians Jews Hindu, etc just not Muslims, it’s so rich coming from a religion taken from Hindu and Islamic scriptures, he doesn’t know what his on about that’s why the arrogant answer to the questions is just say the guru said coz we actually don’t think all life is equal, by the way one of the reasons in Islam is to increase the population,

      He only used Islam as an example it implies to all religions, Sikhism is Sikhism not a mix, and you just don’t understand the religion enough to know why we put our faith in the guru,

    But Sikh also inherited from Hindus. SGGS' content is a mixture of quan and geeta... But when it comes to dating you're denying. Hypocrisy
