It's not about religious superiority. I think the point he was making is that practically we uphold our religion as the most right - that's the reason we follow it. (Just as Muslims see Islam as the most right path.) So if you are a Sikh, you adhere to standards of Sikhism - which in your mind are the best way to live. If you marry someone of another religion, there will inevitably be more mismatched ideas of how to live and what is important and all that. If you marry a Sikh (though even that doesn't mean you'll see eye to eye on everything) you'll be holding each other to a similar standard. It's like a kidney transplant. The more compatible you are the less chance of there being any autoimmune reactions.
