the desperate attempts by missionaries to attack sikhi seem like they just want try justify the inequality and bad things in their religion and then say you got it too also about the gurus being only men you can also say that if they were women other people will not take them seriously as at that time women were not generally seen as being people of knowledge or inspiration them being men in one way helped spread the message and I don't know how Muslims can say none of the gurus were women when none of the 25 prophets named in the Quran none of them were women either
i also heard one of the theory about why panj pyaare's are male ? and answer i got guru gobind Singh ji don't said that i need a head of (male)He just simply said that i need a head ...and in the crowd their are only male volunteers that came forward to gave their head to guru🙏
I am not sikh, but I do know about culture from a psychology perspective. I do not think the guru were all men as the embodiment of humanity's relationship with god; god as described in sikhi such as I have seen since I began looking into sikhi (and my own understanding of god too) seems far too... expansive? Too big? Embodying too much for that, and while some may have that relationship, that is an individual thing I think. I think the guru were men for cultural reasons. Just because a new movement (at the time) decreed women and men are equal, doesn't mean the culture was able to fully adapt to that movement quickly. Even with the decree, women would not have been as respected as men, nor taken as seriously as men, particularly in matters of leadership, as the culture that came before sikhi and still continued to varying degrees despite sikhi, and still was strong in the people surrounding the sikhs and thus filtered back to the sikhs in varying degrees by proximity and converts, would not have allowed it. It is difficult and slow work across multiple generations to change such things when everyone is saturated in it to the point where you can not see the full depth of it, practice it automatically by habit and indoctrination from early childhood, thus unwittingly teaching it to your own children too by example, and particularly when people know of no other way to be and are having to try to create their own new examples of how to be. That's very difficult. God knew this, spirits knew this, and the guru would have at least felt this one way or another, and so the guru chosen were men as they were the ones in the best position to serve sikhi in that culture at that time, even after the culture had been changed to some degree by their teachings.
@El Malakh Feo Are you referring to leaders within Sikhi or elsewhere? I know there were some within Sikhi but the level of leadership matters a lot; A guru, someone at the very peek of respect, power and influence, is a *very* different position then a leader serving under them, as that leader is still answering to the guru, a man. It would be very different if a woman were in a position to answer to no one but god and I do not think the culture at the time was ready for that, culture just doesn't change that fast in those circumstances. I do not think the respect for woman was fully there yet, and from what I've seen certainly wouldn't have been there outside of Sikhi, which also matters (male top leaders outside Sikhi may have used it as an excuse for war due to lack of respect, or may have refused to take negotiations seriously, and so on).
@El Malakh Feo Even today, when I watch sikhs talk, here on this channel or elsewhere online I occasionally see signs of sexism in how people talk. Small signs, minor compared to what I may see from other groups, but there. Given the equality taught in Sikhi, that's culture pushing through and influencing it. After all this time, culture, weather Panjabi culture or whatever culture, influences sikhi in sexist ways. That influence on the wider community has even been recognised and spoken of on this channel, or at least the more apparent influence has, though I doubt the full extent is recognised, which is understandable as the subtle levels are very hard to see. If culture is still a problem even now, what about back then when all this was new, when things were often spread by word of mouth, with each telling bringing more of their cultural bias back into it? Culture is very persistent, good and bad, and the only reason it is changing so rapidly now on a global scale is the influence of the internet, mass media and mass communication, were ideas can be shared and considered easily, and the problems of word of mouth are lessened with access to the original speaker (assuming people go to the original speaker).
+Ash Phillips God doesn't have a gender.. its a relational thing in that context, ie the soul is like a bride and Vaheguru like a Husband... not actually male
they didn't even allow the descendant of Bhai Mardana to do Kirtan at Darbar Sahib. they don't want people getting into sikhi, because it threatens their hold on power
Luk dear v Sikh panth are discussing about dis issue,n in future u will see women doing Kirtan in darbar sahib g. It is Guru Panth to decide, its not as complicated as u think.
I agree. This is an incorrect practice and must be remedied. Our Guruji states we are all equal, and we need progressive and brave voices to shatter the status quo within the administration that runs our Gurudwaras. If you overlay current practice to what is stated by our Guruji in bani, there is a clear misalignment. All of Guru's piare should be allowed to do Kirtan and sewa. There should be no class or distinction based on any feature. I pray that we are able to make significant inroads, and ensure the key and foundational tenet of gender and race equality, which Sikhism decrees, can be fully realized. There should be no such thing as a 'Jatt', 'Mazhabi', 'Katri', etc. class in addition to discrimination based on race or gender. It is the content of one's character which is ultimately judged by the Infinite One, not these outward features.
Love his speeches , and his facts (from bani) But i want to point another topic , According to gurbani ,a sikh(Singh), can't eat meat (non veg) But then why it is always a culture in Punjab who eats a lot of chicken, and then some sikhs says "we are different ,we can eat chicken or any other non veg , we are not Hindu's." Even they have started eating Halal meat(kutha) . Please respond to this or make a video on this and link this in reply . 🙏🏻🙏🏻WaheGuru ji ka Khalsa , Wahe Guru ji ki Fateh 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Gurbani doesn’t say no to eat mean rather Guru Nanak said people who will even question if eating meat is a sin or not will be a fool. Maybe he was talking about people like us. Gurbani says, you need to have a right intentions for anything. Even if you are a vegetarian, what good is that when your mind is polluted with corruption and greed? Eating is for survival. If you not kill an animal, you are still killing a plant.
Samar Jeet Singh how does it show good intentions when animals also bleed like we do and have similar musculoskeletal system that we do? How will killing and eating a living creature like that make us kind? Gurbaani says “Dhol Dharam Daya ka Poot” meaning Daya (kindness) is the mother of Dharam(religion). We Sikhs are not supposed to eat meat. If we were allowed to then during the war in Chamkor when the Sikhs were in the fort and they ran out of food then they didn’t kill birds or squirrels instead they ate leaves and barks of trees to survive.
Sikhism does allow meat. In fact there is a religious slaughter for this practice too. The requirement is that the sword be sharp and one fast sharp cut. The reason you are confused is because sikhism and Hinduism has become one in India and Sikhs don't know their faith.
easy ans for 5 pyarey is that guru sahib took 5 far the most brave people from the people who r willing to die for humanity and after selecting gave them decision making power and they are only men because at that time male were selected as a warrior's not femail i do believe that people today say these questions why not femail but they have to take them to that time in which all the situation were and things were running and we say today why its not today the reason is we dont want to lose the image of those days and wana make men brave of punjab and want them to lead the fight and other related things as those days
Yes, I know who the 10 human Gurus were and that they were by belief entlightened by the light of God, thus becoming one with him. But this does not effect the question whether God is male or female or does it?
Bhai saab you need not become an apologist like Islamists, and ISCON people... you could have just accepted the fact of all Gurus being males, as the consequence of the then prevalent socio-political milieu... The Purush & Prakriti concept holds good in itself, but don't use it to justify things, as simple as political & battle leadership.
Baba Guru Nanak spent his last 18 years in Kartarpur. That's the longest he lived anywhere in his whole life. Historical books claim that when he passed away , Sikhs and Muslims had an argument on his religion and both tried to claim his Body. If what you are telling is 100% accurate, how they were confused after living with him 18 years? That suggest to me that he preached all his life that one should do good deeds and stay away from evil. He believed in Oneness of God and most of his preachings were as close as a Muslim can think he is a Muslim Saint. I am not proving a point here just not understanding how can someone be confused about a person after seeing him and living with him for 18 years. Not trying to prove he was a Muslim but there is a likelihood that his teachings were so close to islam that Muslims never took him as someone who has a different religion. God knows better
Saadat Ali It was not Sikh and Muslims but rather Hindus and Muslims because they both saw an avatar and a prophet in him. He was and is a complete light of god. He did knew the oneness of god but not in Islamic way. Islam limits god to a finite being. Sikhi says, god is infinite and infinity could only be infinite when it includes everything and everyone. The reason people were confused because like always, to recognize a diamond, you need to know what diamond looks like. People who did see the light of god within them saw the same light ever bright in Guru Nanak and thus became Sikhs of the Jagat Guru which later sacrificed themselves for him with no confusion of him being a muslim or any of what people try to label him with according to what they best understand.
@@samarjeetsingh1305 Very well put. We must also recognize that most people were not well versed or educated in religion, during this time, and people lived according to more simple values and the rule of thumb was to do the virtuous thing and not sin. Culturally, there was also more integration and alignment to cultural practices, for which religion informed on the periphery in many aspects of life. (although it did lead in many as well).
hahaha It's been 300 years that sikh religion has been completely established. People still claim as hindus or muslims. If people are confused even after 300 years, why can't people be confused after 18 years.
What is the importance of Rab being inside everyone, is it to be close to his creation, surely Rab can be close to his creation without being in his creation. Thankyou.
so think of it like this god stays inside us because he looks at us if he was outside us at some specific space we would have to go to him as well also our purpose in life is to meet the guru inside us look inside you, i hope it helps
if we are all female and we are all his brides why then with more reason women should be able to be in the panj pyar, at the very least. If Guru and Waheguru are our Lord are(male) with more reason women should be reflecting his light because from what i understand we are all his soul brides and women already as females embody that and males do not...its contradicting.
Paji what if a preacher mentions about our gurus having more than one wife, im abit confused on that aspect, thank u. Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh!
gurus did not have more than one wife at the same time except guru gobind Singh who had 2 wives but guru gobind Singh had before had agreed for second marriage on the grounds that there would be no physical relationship between them.
most of the gurus had one wife only guru hargobind had 3 it seems and guru gobind singh 2 or 3 but it is accepted with guru gobind singh that the 2nd or 3rd didn't have really have a sexual relation with guru gobind singh so really you can say the real marriage was one or two but this topic is still debated it is also possible that these names were different names given at different times of a women lives which use to happen in Punjabi culture or they were wives but died and guru sahib remarried
Guru Word this is incorrect he only had one wife. The misconception is his first wife had another name after marriage as this is punjabi culture. And the second lady was k own as the mother of the khalsa. She was not his wife but this partner the female commander of the he khalsa.
Still doesn't answer WHY all the leaders chosen were male, I think the simple answer and more logical answer would be to say that historically Males have predominately been the leaders of religious and political institutions. For the same reason that the Pope has always been a guy it would make sense why the Gurus were all men. If we simply stop trying to apply supernatural attributes to the Gurus and think of them on the basis as regular spiritual leaders much like the great leaders of our modern era (i.e. Martin Luther King, Mother Theresa, Nelson Mandela). Only reason we associate these attributes with these men was because they existed 100's of years ago.....I think we as Sikhs need to come to this realization and when we do we can focus our goals on following bani and living by the basic teaching of Nanak and the gurus which regardless of the historical context, remains the same and can be applied universally.
Guru isn't a religious leader like you have examples the pope, watch the video the channel has linked. Gurus are more than religious leaders, more than prophets, they are the light of God on earth
more to do with the indian culture at the time as opposed to the spiritual doctrines outlined in the sggs. ofcourse only the physical human/mammal has this male/female distinction, but god does not, as bhai sahib pointed out, its just for the purpose of the relationship with god.
5:47 If you feel that Guru Nanak is same as God then why can't you believe that Jesus is also God's light??? You made a video about why Sikhs don't understand Jesus Christ. There were eyewitness accounts of all of Jesus Christ miracles and powers and yet you try to discredit our holy book. not very good.
You are mentioning the same book which entails the Adam and Eve theory rather than evolution. When you have such false information in the book how can you believe the other information found in the rest of the book. By the way, why do you call yourself Kaur when you are a follower of Christ? Kaur solely belongs to the Sikh fate, stop being a culture vulture.
Where are these eyewitness statements documented? The Bible was written well after Jesus lived, so to authenticate such texts/miracels is extremely difficult. The gurus existed around ~350 years ago, and their own writings have their signatures, making it very easy to see they were no normal people; they were much more
Hello sister. Not sure why you feel anyone is trying to discredit your religious text, however I did not get that feeling from the content in the video in anyway. Guru Nanak Dev Ji is manifest of God's light, and brought a pure and universal message for humanity. Guru Nanak Dev Ji brings us to God's door, and gave us the most beautiful gifts and treasures to realize and experience God. If you feel that through your religious and spiritual system, you achieve this, that is great. Sikhi says we need to focus on ourselves, purify our heart, subdue the 5 thieves (lust, anger, pride, greed, worldly love), in order to experience God. We also have a responsibility to society and the environment and the three tenets of: Naam Jaapo (recite God's name), Kirt Karo (work hard and honestly), Vand Kai Shaako (share with the needy), are universal to humanity. Another beautiful factor to remember is Sikhi respects everyone's human rights, and does not state any person as a result of their religion is condemned to hell and not able to achieve salvation. Only God knows what is in everyone's heart, and that is what is judged. Wearing robes and reciting words, are only mere physical world components, that do not go with us when we leave this world.
Muhammad's first revelation in the desert cave of Hira was "Human beings were born of a blood clot in the desert sand". Aka, no, Sikhi is not "exactly what Islam teaches".
I you ever though it was just a decision of god or just a coincidence that all the gurus were men and so were the punj pyare. It could of easily been women but it turned out to be a man. Maybe god felt at the time it would of still been better for a man to take the leadership. But women can still be in the pan pyare... even now. There is no restriction.
No god didn't think anything, they were chosen because men historically hold positions of power, it doesn't change the message of Sikihi nor does it diminish how Sikhi can be implemented in one's life. Just like the babai at the Golden Temple don't have any females doing kirtan, same Indian Culture applied back then. People need to realize culture has been a large part of Sikh History and organized religion is just that, organized meaning by someone, someperson, and for the most part some man...not GOD
ksidhu1990 there are women who do kirtan, god did choose. Have you heard any of the sakhis on the gurus. They reflect that these gurus were not chosen and had supernatural qualities that were passed on as the light passed from guru to guru.
No, we Sikhs do not even consider such a possibility because what Bhai Jagraj (the speaker in the video) has said held true in the hearts of Sikhs from the beginning of Khalsa and even before that when Guru Nanak Dev Ji was preaching on this earth in human form. We believed and still believe whatever Guru Ji did was for our best, we don’t want to change anything about it.
the desperate attempts by missionaries to attack sikhi seem like they just want try justify the inequality and bad things in their religion and then say you got it too also about the gurus being only men you can also say that if they were women other people will not take them seriously as at that time women were not generally seen as being people of knowledge or inspiration them being men in one way helped spread the message and I don't know how Muslims can say none of the gurus were women when none of the 25 prophets named in the Quran none of them were women either

Guru isn't a religious leader like you have examples the pope, watch the video the channel has linked. Gurus are more than religious leaders, more than prophets, they are the light of God on earth
more to do with the indian culture at the time as opposed to the spiritual doctrines outlined in the sggs. ofcourse only the physical human/mammal has this male/female distinction, but god does not, as bhai sahib pointed out, its just for the purpose of the relationship with god.
also, (another important point) the himans soul is itself devoid of gender, the soul is neither male or female
The thing is if there was a women more worthy then any of our gurus in their time I’m sure they would be the guru but no one was.
The gurus existed around ~350 years ago, and their own writings have their signatures, making it very easy to see they were no normal people; they were much more
We don't believe Guru Nanak is god
Yes all equal but some are more equal than others.
Well then if Sikhim AND Islam BOTH discriminate, then they are BOTH wrong, as of course two wrongs don't make a right. I'd look for an alternative.
This video clearly shows that sikhism doesnt discriminate, unlike christianity, for example.
+Dale D. Plus the Sikhs were the first group of people to recognize suffrage for women.
where does sikhi discriminate
The gora ‘Sikhs’ in California should listen to this and stop making women Panj Pyaaras
U people are fool waheguru means one God to worship that's exactly what Islam teaches
Muhammad's first revelation in the desert cave of Hira was "Human beings were born of a blood clot in the desert sand". Aka, no, Sikhi is not "exactly what Islam teaches".
@@jojames6621 Waheguru is Gurmantra for Sikhs & it means God
Bhai Jagraj Singh ji's beard is turning white.
Your point?
i think he was just stating what he observed
Yes, but it's unnecessary.
matt alan calm down mate

Makes no sense ..... you are blinded by faith bro
My Friend faith is not a blindfold, faith is like glasses which help you see God.
U r Manmukh bro
