Love the Yamaha F1 engine. Could have done so much better with just a bit more money backing its development. I was so disappointed when Damon Hill narrowly missed winning in Hungary 97, in the Yamaha powered Arrows. So close!
@@ClassicFormulaOne1 Considering the close relationship between Toyota and Yamaha regarding road cars I wonder how much of Toyota's F1 effort was Yamaha.
@@ClassicFormulaOne1 Yes it was definitely not a success, I just wonder whether Yamaha had a hand in the whole exercise, seeing that they build quite a couple of good engines together forroad cars. Would be interesting to know why Toyota could not do better than they did in F1, at least money was not the issue.
I had an FZ750 back in the day that boasted 5 valves per cylinder, I guess the idea was to get more inlet area around the circumference of three valves compared to two. The three inlet valves possibly caused compromises in other areas, maybe combustion chamber shape hence Yamaha dropping the 5 valve design on later bikes/engines.
Great video! I look forward to part 2!
Thanks man, hopefully somewhere in November part 2 ☺️
This is great thank you for digging up the archive footage.

The Best Era of Formula1. Never to return.
Glad we still have the footage
I can't believe i totally forgot that Yamaha was in F1!
You really forgot??? 😄

Yeah I was bummed too when I was watching Hungary 1997. Would have been the first victory for Bridgestone, Arrows and Yamaha.....
Already the KT100 is still top notch karting engine:)

Very interesting, thanks. Looking forward to part two. Toyota to follow on, maybe? 😁👍
Maybe Toyota sometime, however my personal interest lies in the 70s 80s and 90s 🤗
@@ClassicFormulaOne1 Mine, too. I watched from about 1983 to 2006 before giving up on it.

@@MrGoogelaar I do not know very much about Toyota's F1 project except that it costed a few billions and not much results in return 😁

@@sidecarbod1441 thanks for this addition
Miss the sound. New cars sound like a Mercury outboard on crack.
Yea I miss the F1 sounds from the 90's!
The Scream™.
!!!!!
Underpowered AND unreliable. Wow, that's a helluva daily double. ;)
😂☺
Peugeot and Yamaha in the same stable.
Too bad F1 is boring now
Yeah I miss those V8, V10 and V12 days...
What do you mean? This season has been the best season I've seen in a long time.
