    Thank you for telling me about your crystal vendors! Since it's Sunday, I was waiting till tomorrow to go to Hobby Lobby because their cheap plastic crystals are half price next week. But finding your video saved me money, saved my shoes, and saved my time! :)

    I appreciate your concern. I read the label when I bought the product and take precaution when using. I don't have the luxury of going outside all the time. I live in Indiana and at the time it was pretty cold outside. Plus, those types of labels are on all types of glue. It's a liability issue for the companies involved so users can't sue if they were to get sick. Besides, I wouldn't even use it at all if I thought it was extremely dangerous.

  • @iwitherspoon
    @iwitherspoon  11 лет назад

    Where did you get your stones from? I've never had the foil backing "burnt" by the glue on the stones I use. My intial guess is that the stones you are using are not crystal, resin or even hot fix, but may be plastic.

    okay, I think I got it. Thank you for your quick reply! You are just so great, I could watch and listen to you on and on! And so helpful too! Thanks again. BTW, if you don't mind me saying, if this company is so great for the stones why are you testing stones from other vendors? Just curious. I'm just so nervous after using the Swarovski for so many years. But I must say I do like the prices of the vendor you linked. Thanks again!

    @rqw97b 12 лет назад

    Love the video, thanks so much for the info. I do have one question though, and I do apologize if this has been asked before. The crystals that you use, what is on the back of them? Foil? I've noticed that ones I use seem to almost MELT in the E6000 or the foil backing cracks up and you can kinda see it through the crystal. Have you experienced this? I am ordering some crystals from your supplier, maybe Michael's rhinestones are cheap?

  • @MelanieOregon

    Thanks for the video! I don't remember if you said if you have problems w/ the natural creases shoes get once you're wearing them. I get deep creases on my shoes & boots ~ is there a way to keep stones from falling off at those areas once you wear them? I'm wanting to do a knee high pair of boots so there'll be creases down along top of foot (same as shoes) AND the back of the ankle. Thank you.

  • @iwitherspoon
    @iwitherspoon  12 лет назад

    @MrsKawaii09 My best guess would be approximately 800 crystals per shoe for the platform and heel. About 500 for the platform and 300 for the heel.

  • @iwitherspoon
    @iwitherspoon  11 лет назад +1

    It's called the Pick Me Up. If your local craft store does not carry it, you can google it to purchase it online.

    Hi! I am new to your channel so please excuse my question if it seems repetitive. Have you ever added crystals to a patent leather shoe (i.e. Jessica Simpson) and, if so, do you recommend the same adhesive?

    • @iwitherspoon
      @iwitherspoon  8 лет назад

      there is actually a few added steps that need to be done prior to adding stones to patent leather. this video was done in 2012. I have since made this a full time small business for myself. If you are interested in learning more, please check out my website www.shiningsoles.net/exclusive-content

    u do a great job,love yr videos!!!
    if u stained the rhinestones with glue how u can clean them after u finish the shoe?

  • @iwitherspoon
    @iwitherspoon  11 лет назад

    I usually will break a shoe in first before I strass it. That way I know where the natural creases are located. I try to work around the creases. Meaning I won't apply a stone directly on top of a crease, but rather next to it. That way I will avoid stones from popping off in those areas.

  • @iwitherspoon
    @iwitherspoon  11 лет назад

    I got mine at Hobby Lobby. You could just get some tak. You know the stuff you use to put up posters and whatnot on the walls. Well, get some of that stuff and place a little ball of it on the tip of a pencil and that would help you pick up your stones. They also sell other alternatives on crafting websites, but I've never used them. I like the Pick Me Up because one lasts me a year. So for $6 bucks that's not bad at all.

    what is the color of the stone you are using here? i cannot find it on the ebay site you mentioned in your description box. By the way your projects are all amazing! :)

  • @iwitherspoon
    @iwitherspoon  11 лет назад

    When I first started I never painted the shoes. I am at the point where I am comfortable with doing it for my clients. I had to do it on my own shoes first. I personally prefer the shoe to already be in the color range of the stones I'm using. But I am ok with painting shoes if the client cannot find the shoe in a particular color. It does make for a nicer look in the end.

  • @iwitherspoon
    @iwitherspoon  12 лет назад

    It depends on the size of the shoe, how much of the shoe you want to cover and the size of the crystals you are using. For the shoe shown, I probably used around 1000 stones for one shoe. But that is just a guess because I buy my crystals in bulk (30,000 or more at a time). So I have no idea how many stones I'm using.

  • @iwitherspoon
    @iwitherspoon  11 лет назад

    What are "Jelly" AB crystals? The E6000 should be fine with resin flatback stones. I use resin stones all the time with E6000 and haven't had any issues.

    How well do those crystals stay on the platform? How would you wash the shoe?
    Also don't those crystals have glue on the back of them? Thank you for taking the time to show us how to do it. I want to decorate a picture frame. Do you think I could use the same crystals on a metal frame???

    • @iwitherspoon
      @iwitherspoon  10 лет назад +1

      I've had shoes strassed around the same time this video was done years ago and the stones are still on. If you go to my instagram account @shining_soles, you will see video of shoes that are several years old and how they are holding up. And typically, you wash your shoes the way you normally would...by hand. I don't know how else you would do it with or without crystals.

    so you put the larger stone on the border, then fill in with smaller ones? or do you put smaller ones on the border and fill in with larger??

  • @iwitherspoon
    @iwitherspoon  11 лет назад

    That would be just the heel and platform for two shoes. It could be less if you use larger stones. An entire shoe would be much more, but it depends on the size of stones used.

  • @PrettyMobileGamerChic

    Where did you get the rhinestone pickup tool and about how much did it cost you?

  • @iwitherspoon
    @iwitherspoon  11 лет назад

    I do mix all three sizes. Sometimes I mix four different sizes. Sometimes I place the stones randomly. Sometimes I use a pattern. It depends on the shoe and what look I'm going for. Yes, avoid plastic stones. It's a waste of time using them on your shoes. I would stick with resin or crystal rhinestones.

  • @iwitherspoon

    I buy stones on ebay too. I have a link to the person I buy my stones from in the info box below this video. Check them out. They are pretty inexpensive and have free shipping. The only downside is they are located in China so it takes about 10-12 days to get your stones. I use 3, 4, and 5 mm sized stones for all my projects now. But it is personal preference depending on your project and taste.

    My fee would depend on how many colors were wanted, the style of the shoe, and how much of the shoe you would want encrusted in crystals. I would also prefer to have you provide your own shoes as it would be terrible for me to strass a shoe that didn't fit you perfectly. But if you would want me to obtain the shoe as well, I would have to take that into account for the price as well. What were you thinking of having done?

  • @iwitherspoon
    @iwitherspoon  12 лет назад

    @tiaxox The smaller the number the smaller the crystal. I had to google the "ss" sizes to know exactly how big each one was in millimeters.

  • @iwitherspoon

    You can strass a pair of patent leather heels. You just have to be careful about the stones sliding all over the place before the glue sets. So I wouldn't go overboard with the glue.

  • @iwitherspoon
    @iwitherspoon  11 лет назад

    If possible, I will actually wear the shoe if it is one that I am working on for a client and do a quick walk around my house to see where the natural creases fold in. This is usually not a problem with most pumps and platforms. And I'm sure those designer shoes do lose stones once you wear them. I just saw a $3000 pair of rhinestoned Jimmy Choo pumps last week in person and was disappointed. They really don't use that many stones (well not as many as I do).
